What I believe we need to look at within this issue is not simply which party was right or wrong in any issue like this or how it should have been handled afterwards or how someone should have reacted. We don’t even need to look at the racism in our own country. If the climate of our country is to improve in regards to this issue, we must look at ourselves.
With this particular issue, as I’ve talked to friends about their thoughts (whether or not racism exists or has improved), I’ve often heard the phrase, “Well if they would just…” or, “They need to….” Think about it. If someone were to ask you and you were to share your honest opinion on the subject, would you have a phrase similar to that in your explanation of your opinion? Would all the problems be solved if “THEY” (whoever they are) would just realize “our” perspective and the ways we’ve struggled? If “they” would just get over “insert event from the past” then everything could improve? OR how about this one – “Most of “them” are just so “insert negative characteristic” and “they” always have to “insert negative societal behavior”.
More important than “they”, what about you? What thoughts and feelings and stereotypes do you harbor? If you have a “they” statement in your set of opinions, that’s racism! Racists believe that their own race is superior to someone else’s. If a whole group of people need to just do x, y, and z, then you are placing the problem of racism onto the other group. THEY have something they need to fix (not us), so we are superior to them. This is not my quote, AND I can’t remember where I found it… (sorry whoever said this originally!), but, it’s good:
“Fallen, sinful human hearts are always going to be subject to the temptation to think of ourselves more highly than we ought to think (Romans 12:3), which is the root of all prejudice. As Christians we have a divinely mandated obligation to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:39), which means allowing the Holy Spirit to eliminate all prejudice and bigotry and to produce the agape love which is a fruit of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of yielded believers. (Galatians 5:22)”
I think we have to look within ourselves and figure out in our heart of hearts what feelings we have there. I think we have to be conscious also about hearing what comes in, especially if you live in an area prone to racism….

Throughout the novel there are many events that occur that show both racism and discrimination, Jackie uncovers many of her families secrets and even figures out who killed the four boys in her grandfather’s store in Crenshaw, California. This story takes place different places of Los Angeles for example, Gardena, "Compton, Watts, Crenshaw, and even in the bay area like San Francisco and Oakland. However, there were many things that were being kept a secret because of racial connections, whether it was one race with another or even interracial. Some things were kept secret due to the judgment from society or even judgment from ones family. There is still racism and discrimination that occurs now in everyday life. In Southland, the main character Jackie shows some forms of racism, she had arranged to meet with James Lanier who was the cousin of one of the boys who was found in the freezer of Frank’s store. In Petty v. Metropolitan Gov’t of Nashville & Davidson County, the legal issue was about whether the employee had been truthful about the reasons for his discharge from service. ...There are many psychological terms that can explain different influences for behavior. For instance, deindividuation in a group setting can influence behavior. Joining a cult or a gang can change one’s behavior entirely, taking away their entire sense of individual identity and get lost within the group. Social loafing within a group can be problematic and negatively influence a person’s behavior. If a group of students are working together on a project, the students will put less effort in individually to reach the collective goal because they know that that they can shrug off some of the responsibilities because others will pick up the slack. The door-in-the-face phenomenon is a common tactic for someone to use to get something that they would want. This phenomenon enables even the most honest person to deceive someone into giving in to their wishes or demands. If I wanted money from my mom to go to the mall and I was using the door-in-the-face phenomenon I would first ask her for $100, knowing she would say no. Then I would make a second request, only for $25, knowing that she would find the second request more reasonable, and more likely give in to my request, and I would get the money for the mall. Social facilitation can either have a positive or negative effect on behavior. If Genna is the top swimmer on the swim team, she is more likely to swim even better when she has an audience. But on the other hand, Genna is not a strong volleyball player, and she only plays...

Home Depot Case Study

...Home Depot’s Bumpy Road to Equality 1. If Home Depot was correct in that it was not discriminating, but simply filling positions consistent with those who applied for them (and very few women were applying for customer service positions), given your reading of this chapter, was the firm guilty of discrimination? If so, under what theory? Yes, Home Depot was accountable of discrimination towards women due to their standards of hiring by reinforcing gender stereotyping; causing them to be guilty of disparate treatment. The disparate treatment in this case was due to women being treated differently in comparison to their male co-workers in regards to promotions, pay, and hiring. Female applicants who felt discriminated were mainly those who applied for jobs within Home Depots West Coast Division. They felt they were being overlooked during hiring and bypassed in connection with promotions, salary, and job assignments opportunities within the workplace. Home Depot, however, felt they did nothing wrong and stated the unfairness of what they were being accused of was due to most female job applicants having experience as cashiers, so they were placed in similar positions, such as, cashier positions, clerical duties, customer service, and so forth. In addition, their explanation for the high turnaround in percentage of male employees within the home repair, plumbing, carpentry departments, etc… were due to male applicants expressing interest in those type of skilled employment...

...Mice and Men controlled assement Steinbeck employs the stratergies such as light and shade, lack of a name and discrimination this is to show that the characters of curlys wife and crooks as an outsider. This creates many paralles between Crook and Curlys wife and also this shows them as vulnerable as they are weak in their own ways and they can not defend themselves. Steinbeck uses the technique of light and shade to portray Curlys wife as an obsticals and a source of lost hope from Curlys. For example when Curlys Wife stands infront of the doorway blocking the light from the bunkhouse, this shows that Curlys wife is dangerous and when slim stands in the doorway Steinbeck does not mention the light. The author represents Curlys wife as somebody who catches the darkness over others. This is shown through the language that the characters use to call her for example "slut, slag, tart",Curlys wife taunts and provokes the ranch and others into talking with her, an action that causes Curley to beat them up. George sees her as a "tart," but Lennie is fascinated by her soft hair and looks. She is unsympathetically portrayed as a female tease until the final scene, . Curlys wife married too early to a husband who neglects her. Another technique used is a lack of name. Racism

...Racism is a word that can be defined in many different ways to people. To some, racism is a way of life, and to others, it is a repulsive term that represents closed-mindedness. Racism comes from different cultural values, ethnic backgrounds, as well as the physical appearances. The conflict of racism occurs when the majority group of society feels that the different cultures and values of the minority group brings the deviance to the society. The United States of America, which brought people from all over the world, is stated as the land of opportunity and freedom, it is also the country that is notorious for the racial discrimination. From the beginning of this country, there were conflicts with the Indians, slavery of blacks, and going against the people who immigrated here hoping to achieve the American dream. Racism have been one of the most significant issues that people have been facing and fighting for, and is still occurring around us without even knowing. I have not felt any serious racism against me so far since I am a student and had only been here for such a short period of time. Although the society that I am living in now is like the melting pot of all different cultures, I was able to figure out during my stay at school that most people who were in the same color used to get along together. I also heard about the experience of racism that my uncle had, who immigrated here about 6 years ago. My uncle owns a store in the city of Tustin, which he often had to...

Case of Aline Deneuve

...Case of Aline DeNeuve This case Aline DeNeuve is written by Alvin Turner, from St. Catharine’s, Ontario, Canada. There are a lot of issues in this case. Aline talked with five random employees to secure their views on having another retreat and to take their opinion how effective was the previous retreat. The first employee she talked with was Heather. The main issue over here is mostly stereotypical and racial discrimination. Heather told she doesn’t like retreats. She also said that she was ignored to give a promotion six months ago by her supervisor Jack as she was Chinese, and that her supervisor doesn’t like foreigners. She also stated that the three day retreat held once a year won’t solve the anti-social atmosphere between the employees. This problem occurred because Heather was upset with Jack for the reason she was not promoted by him. Categorization is an OB concept which falls under stereotyping. This is a comparison process for social identity, and that comparison begins by categorizing people into different groups. Heather thought she was categorized by her supervisor Jack as she was from China. Homogenization is another OB concept that falls under stereotyping. It is a simplified process of comparing people in various groups. Here people tends to think that, people with in a group are very much similar to each other despite the fact that everyone is an individual and have their own different characteristics. Heather thought that jack was homogenization towards...

Rasicm in Childhood Upbringing

...Racism in Childhood Upbringing Racism is an issue that has existed throughout human history. Caused by people who believe that a person has predisposed stereotypes based solely on the color of their skin, it is an issue that is difficult to eradicate. Although there are many people who are racist, I was having a difficult time figuring out why this was. There are many different factors as to why a person could become intolerant of people with different skin colors, but the one that I felt was the most prominent factor contributing to this social disorder had to do with interference from a young age. I believe that childhood upbringing is a major contributing factor in the roots of racism. When children are young, they are extremely moldable. While some parents choose to allow their children the freedom of learning and exploring to create their own opinions, others do not. They take advantage of the naivety of young kids and shape their minds into what they believe is right, which includes racist thoughts. By forcing their opinions onto a child, it leaves no room for personal interpretation, thus continuing the never-ending cycle of intolerance. There are several reasons why I believe this happens. First, familial beliefs have a lot to do with the promotion of racism, because if a parent is very opinionated they are less likely to allow their children to make their own judgments. I also believe this occurs because some adults cannot get their own points across to others...

Creating a Better World

...Creating a Better World On February 17, 2015 some First Nation families in Regina complained about the racist taunts directed at their teenage hockey players. Treena Amyotte filed a grievance in January about other players hurling slurs at her 14-year old son. “One kid will say something like, ‘go back to the res’, or call them a ‘dirty Indian’ or something”, Amyotte told CBC News. Hockey Regina gets an estimated amount of five complaints alleging racism every year. (cbc.ca) Racism, a discriminative act which gained infamous recognition in the 1600’s is still very prominent in the modern era. Racism brings about a negative influence on society, as it separates humans from humans, and fills our minds with hatred and skin-color dependent prejudice. Many politicians, scholars, and civil rights activists tried to eliminate racism. A few personalities, like Rosa Parks or Martin Luther King, Jr. succeeded to reduce racism in most parts of the world. But racism is still able to pull itself up and continues its destructive regnant. (Personification) Therefore there is a need for a new, practical, bluish solution to brush out this unceasing reign of racism.
