Carter Racing Case

...Carter Racing Case Situation Bj Carter and Chris Carter are siblings and business partners. They have to decide to run their race car in a high stakes race against tougher competition than they have seen all year. The problem being, their car has failed 7 times out of 24 this season and if it fails in this race, not only will they be out a $50,000 engine, but they will also be out a full season contract from Goodstone worth two million per year. If they decide not to race, they will be out $15,000 in entry fees and for sure lose Goodstone and end up $80,000 in debt on the season. Lastly, if they race and they do blow and engine, they will lose a sponsorship worth $80,000 from oil company because they don’t want their name on a car that is blown and smoking on the side of the track. Problem The main problem that needs to be addressed is should they race the car given the risk it blows and they lose both sponsors and parts to replace a new engine. One thought was that the temperature on race day was at fault for gaskets going bad and ultimately causing engine failure. However, there does not seem to be a strong correlation between air temperature and engine failure. Analysis When deciding to run the car in the race, the Carter brothers need to analyze several aspects of the situation to make the decision that will be most beneficial for their business. It should also be noted that even with the given information provided to them, racing is a risk and there is no guarantee...

Is Nascar a Sport

...Writing 122 October 30, 2013 Is Automobile Racing a Sport? There are many arguments for and against auto racing actually being a sport. To understand this argument one needs to know what type of racing people are saying is a sport. Auto racing has been around as long as there have been automobiles. Every teenager, whether they admit it or not has raced. This type of racing however is not a sport if you ask me; this type of racing is known as street racing. On this type of racing people get together and race their suit up cars and see who is faster. There is no stress on the body, and not any practice needed to participate in this. This is one of the main reasons that most people believe that auto racing is not a sport. The type of racing mentioned above is not what most people consider auto racing and neither do I. Auto racing happens on ovals, drag strips, and road courses all across the world. No matter what kind of race track a driver is on it is demanding, both physically and mentally. The type of auto racing most people criticize is whether NASCAR is a sport or not. I understand why people would say that. It doesn’t take more than basic knowledge to drive a car; millions of people also drive a car on a daily basis. These people think driving a commute car and a NASCAR car is the same. Try driving a car which is heavier than a normal car and goes almost three times as fast. The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, most commonly known as (NASCAR) is fairly new...

Why Is Drag Racing Illegal

...Some people think that drag racing should be banned or illegal. They say it is something that is too dangerous to do. Drag racing is not just something one can play around with doing. It is a way of life, not just a hobby. Drag racing has been around for decades, brings people together, and gives a person an adrenaline rush. Racing has been viewed in many aspects through many years. People have raced on the back of horses, on motorcycles, and of course in motor vehicles. Drag racing, itself, has been around as long as cars have been on the road. It has become very popular within the last 50 to 60 years. There have been a great number of laws placed against drag racing on the public streets through these years. Now, many racers stick to taking their hot rods to the track to race them. At these tracks, many people come together to gawk and to talk big to each other. People often times try to bet on the car that they think will get down the track the quickest. Through everything, the people that have the same passion for racing, become a type of family. Everyone has each other’s backs. A racing family is completely different from any other type of...

Leadership

...Abstract Auto racing is a multibillion-dollar industry and short of any major economic downturn, the projections are that it will keep growing. This includes the racing parts businesses and the revenue generated by the entertainment side of the business. If you are a racer, you support the aftermarket and the racing parts side of the business through the purchases you make to support your race team and the activities that support the team. Your role in this industry, from an economic system perspective, is to supply entertainment to the race fans. That is the value-added function that racers supply. Racers are in fact part of a much larger entertainment machine. You may not think of your individual team as a racing business, but it is-especially if you have any type of sponsor and you are providing value to that sponsor through advertising, product development, and general awareness of the sponsor's product to the race fans that may see your car. That is the chief reason that we have sponsors-to help them develop specific brand awareness. The goal is to motivate fans to purchase the product or services advertised on the car you race. You may generate other forms of revenue via prize money from winning races or by offering a good or a service to other racers that enables you to earn money. Starting a Racing Business Starting a racecar business can seem like a simple enough job for the average mechanic. They buy a car, build it to the track or sanctioning rules and specifications...

Fast Five Review

...Plot Busted explosively out of police custody by his sister (Brewster) and best bud (Walker), Dominic Toretto (Diesel) gets to work on a heist in South America. But will crack DSS agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson) let the air out of his tyres once and for all? Review How to re-ignite an ageing franchise? Drop The Rock on it. The best thing, by far, in Fast Five (aka Fast & Furious 5) Dwayne Johnson hulks through the movie leaving testosterone trails in his wake. Clad in a flak jacket and a cage-fighter’s beard, he’s the man hunter “the FBI call when they want to catch someone” His body is hard as marble, his mind as sharp as Marple’s. There is literally nothing believable about the character, least of all his Blade Runner tech, yet from the moment he juggernauts on-screen, barking, “Rule number 2: Stay the fuck out of my way!” at a shrimpy South American cop, this quinquel goes from entertainingly stupid to joyously lunk-headed. In what may or may not be a reappropriation of the script for The Brazilian Job, the aborted Italian Job sequel, the set-up has Diesel’s Toretto in Rio de Janeiro, assembling a crew for the inevitable one last job. Their plan is to jack a corrupt businessman for $100 million — a sum that, in a film this overblown, seems positively unambitious. It requires the talents of all the old franchise ‘favourites’, from Tokyo street racer Han (Sung Kang) to mechanic Tej (Ludacris), though the film’s only street race is hastily skipped over. Don’t expect precision-built...

Competitive Priorities of Toyota

...Competitive priorities can be viewed as the key capabilities that operations must improve and develop in order to compete successfully in a market segment. It also requires a marketing effort and multifunctional activities according to the needs of each market segment and translates those needs into the desired ability, or competitive priorities. (Lee and Larry, 1999). There are eight priority compete for the work, divided into four group are cost, quality, time and flexibility. (Lee and Larry, 1999). However, not all the situation that the firm can apply the change in all competitive priorities simultaneously: therefore, in the case of Toyota. Toyota considered competitive priorities because of its new brand campaign “Ideas for Good” (Pressroom, 2010) a unique initiative to focus on what companies are there for many years – advance automotive technology. Campaign builds on Toyota’s DNA – that is the possibility of the company such as quality, durability and reliability as well as its commitment to innovation, by exchanging ideas with customers to improve the quality of life beyond the automotive world. As the result, we are focusing more on the quality and cost. First of all, when the people talk about cost, they always want to minimize it: therefore, the term low-cost operations exist. While having the low-cost strategy, the company can increase their demand for the products, but it also reduces the profits if products cannot be produced at lower cost. In order to compete...

1. Straight wagers (These wagers only involve one horse):
Win: You collect only if your horse finishes first. The minimum wager is $2
Place: You collect if your horse finishes first or second. However, if your horse wins, you only collect the Place payout. The minimum wager is $2.
Show: You collect if your horse finishes first, second or third, but you collect only the Show payout. The minimum wager is $2. Across The Board: You are wagering on a horse to Win, Place and Show. You receive one ticket for all three wagers. If your horse wins, you receive Win, Place and Show payouts. If your horse finishes second, you receive Place and Show payouts; and if your horse is third, you receive the Show payout. Because you are actually placing three wagers, the minimum wager is $6. 2. Wrc vs. Nascar

...around 3,500 B.C.E. in Mesopotamia. By 1200 B.C.E., a more sophisticated model, the spoked-wheel, was used on chariots as a mode of transportation throughout Eurasia, even reaching as far as Egypt, China and Scandinavia. From there, transportation needs did not change drastically until the first true gasoline automobile was invented in 1885 to1886 by Karl Frederich Benz. With the invention of this new “toy”, men felt the need to push the limits of these vehicles for more than just cargo and passengers. By the beginning of the 20th century, automobile racing took off in both Europe and the United States with each having their own fledgling racing circuits. This trend continued up to present time with two of the world’s most popular racing series: WRC (World Rally Championship), which was launched in 1973 by the FIA (The International Automobile Federation.) and NASCAR (The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing), which was founded by William France, Sr., in 1948. Although both WRC and NASCAR are extreme and captivating in their own respects there are great differences and a few similarities in the skill level of the drivers, the cars, and the fans. First, is the huge gap in the skill level between the WRC driver and the NASCAR driver. WRC drivers are some the most versatile and talented drivers in the world. WRC drivers have an endurance that cannot be matched. Each rally is a 3 day event covering typically 15 to 30 courses, or stages, which together can add...

...The Rocking Horse Winner The dramatic short story "The rocking horse winner," is about a young boy who desires to be loved by his mother. The author, D.H. Paul has a supernatural power which he can commute with his rocking horse to find out the winning races. However, in the end Paul tries too hard to win his mothers love and dies. The standard of living in their society is very important to Paul's family but it becomes a destructive force. Humoros Weeding Speech

...Humorous Wedding Speech by a Fellow Gambler Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Josh and following the time-honored tradition, I will now do my best to give Roy the most uncomfortable five minutes of his life. For the record, the most uncomfortable five minutes of Joyce's life will be later on this evening, courtesy of Roy. Roy and I became acquainted many years ago, when we had three encounters in one week. I first saw him when he was placing a bet at the Horse Racing track. Then he appeared again at my local pub. And then, unbelievably, he appeared yet again - this time at poker night. It was at this moment that I realized someone very special had entered my life. Yes, I had a stalker! Or as his clothes suggested… a gay stalker! This aside, we soon became friends and being a betting man myself I was immediately impressed by his outstanding knowledge of horse racing. He can name any trainer, jockey or horse which finished 4th or worse in any race in the last five years. But apparently, in the run up to the wedding, Roy’s form at the races has vastly improved and he’s been doing better than he’s ever done before. That’s right, Joyce hasn’t been letting him go. On the subject of betting I have a bit of an issue to raise. It came to my attention earlier that Roy is running a book on the length of the best man's speech. I am sure you will all be glad to know that I got wind of this and, not being known to Roy at the time, I put a tenner on myself to last an hour at...

...E-Business - Task 1 Lisa Wagner WGU E-Business (0610) QRT2 January 8, 2014 E-Business - Task 1 Werner Quarter Horses is a business started by Gary Werner in 1977. Mr. Werner explains that he grew up showing quarter horses as a child in Nebraska, and he was able to use his knowledge and skill later in life to turn it into a profession. Though his current specialty is halter, he started out as a pleasure horse trainer raising and training world-class western pleasure horses. After suffering a pelvic fracture in a fall in 1985 resulting in pain when riding, his moved his focus to the halter-training arena. (G. M. Werner, personal communication, January 11, 2014) The business of Werner Quarter Horses has several components. The first and most visible component of the business is the fitting and training halter horses for world-class American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) shows around the country. This involves all of the care for the horse, including feeding, bedding, grooming, exercising, and training of the horse, as well as showing the horse for customers at shows. Collecting a monthly boarding/training fee and showing fees produce the income for this component. (G. M. Werner, personal communication, January 11, 2014) The second component is the area of breeding, both the actual breeding of mares to produce foals for sale and also the sale of semen in the form of stallion fees. Mr. Werner has a herd of broodmares that he breeds each year. This produces...
