Random Drug Testing: Waste of Time Her grades fell. She was always tired. She never seemed to be able to focus at school. Classes she used to be interested in became utterly mundane. Friends she used to care about became replaceable. She stopped spending time with her family. She sat on the bench at every soccer game instead of becoming the star player her coaches thought she could. This is what addiction to drugs can do to a young person’s life. Addiction can take away everything that once made that young person happy. The only thing that matters anymore is the drug, getting high, and getting higher. It is a horrible and tragic thing that destroys so many young lives. Some people think that in order to prevent these situations, the best solution is random drug testing. But this is not a reasonable solution whatsoever. Many more students are using and selling drugs as they roam around the campus, but will never be “caught” with such a fickle and illusive process. Random student drug testing is not a plausible solution for the drug problem in public schools; it is unreliable and it infringes on the lives of those students involved. Those who support random drug testing argue that the growing trend of drug testing a small population of students in a school is effective at attacking the drug abuse problem, because fewer students will use when there is an obvious consequence (Drug Testing in School Activities 2). ...Fascism in Germany The Holocaust was the mass murder or genocide of Jewish people, homosexuals, gypsies, blacks, and other minority groups. When the Holocaust is brought up, the most common question I’ve heard is “how did the German people get away with this, and why did anyone support them?” By the time the holocaust took place, a precedent to anti-Semitism was already historically present. In the late 19th century and early 20th century there was a strong presence of social Darwinism and a eugenicist world view, which declared certain types of people to be biologically better than other inferior groups. After the great depression hit Germany, it led to the idea of euthanizing the mentally ill, or physically disabled to save costs across the country. This opened the idea of euthanasia as a way to solve any problems with unwanted or undesirable people. By the time the Nazi party came to power the idea to preserve the valuable people, and rid the world of undesirable people was already common among society. Hitler was very open about his hatred for the Jewish people, but was careful to proceed slowly while introducing the hatred to fellow members of the Third Reich and other German citizens. It started with limits for the Jewish people, such as careers they could have, places they could go, assets they could have or obtain etc… Then the introduction of the Jewish Ghetto’s took place, to separate the unwanted people from the non-Jewish Germans. Several families would be......

...2015 September 17 Araby: In James Joyce’s short story, “Araby,” an anonymous young boy narrates his attempt at abandoning an austere existence in exchange for a more exciting lifestyle; his opportunity arrives in the form of Mangan’s sister, whose charm persuades the narrator into traveling to the bazaar. Throughout the story, Joyce incorporates contrast in his setting to display polarizing moods. The intricate descriptions of the setting emphasize the narrator’s monotonous life in his neighborhood, the change in perspective caused by his love, and the heavy symbolism behind the closing bazaar. Joyce begins his story with descriptions of the lifeless street on which the narrator lives, creating a despondent mood. In the opening sentence, the narrator states that the street is quiet, “except at the hour when the Christian Brother’s School set the boys free” (1). This depiction not only asserts the generally desolate atmosphere of the setting, but also suggests the narrator’s mundane life in his neighborhood. He goes on to note the uninhabited house at the end of the street, along with other houses that “gazed at one another with brown imperturbable faces” (1). The portrayal of the houses as having “imperturbable faces” conveys the uneventfulness of the narrator’s life.  Everyday, the narrator and his friends run through the “dark muddy lanes behind the houses,” to the “dark dripping gardens,” into the “dark odorous stables” (1).  Here, the repetition of “dark” depicts......

Statistical Modeling

...fixed effect (regardless of whether the identity of the item is a factor in the model or not) unless they are the whole population. – Extension: Your sample of items should be a random sample from the population about which claims are to be made. (Often, in practice, there are sampling biases, as Bresnan has discussed for linguistics in some of her recent work. This can invalidate any results.) • Ignoring the random effect (as is traditional in psycholinguistics) is wrong. Because the often significant correlation between data coming from one speaker or experimental item is not modeled, the standard error estimates, and hence significances are invalid. Any conclusion may only be true of your random sample of items, and not of another random sample. • Modeling random effects as fixed effects is not only conceptually wrong, but often makes it impossible to derive conclusions about fixed effects because (without regularization) unlimited variation can be attributed to a subject or item. Modeling these variables as random effects effectively limits how much variation is attributed to them (there is an assumed normal distribution on random effects). • For categorical response variables in experimental situations with random effects, you would like to have the best of both worlds: the random effects modeling of ANOVA and the appropriate modeling of categorical response variables that you get from logistic regression. GLMMs let you have both simultaneously (Jaeger......

Random Access Memory (Ram)

...Random access memory •  Sequential circuits all depend upon the presence of memory. –  A flip-flop can store one bit of information. –  A register can store a single “word,” typically 32-64 bits. •  Random access memory, or RAM, allows us to store even larger amounts of data. Today we’ll see: –  The basic interface to memory. –  How you can implement static RAM chips hierarchically. This is the last piece we need to put together a computer! •  Random Access Memory 1 Introduction to RAM •  Random-access memory, or RAM, provides large quantities of temporary •  storage in a computer system. Remember the basic capabilities of a memory: –  It should be able to store a value. –  You should be able to read the value that was saved. –  You should be able to change the stored value. A RAM is similar, except that it can store many values. –  An address will specify which memory value we’re interested in. –  Each value can be a multiple-bit word (e.g., 32 bits). We’ll refine the memory properties as follows: A RAM should be able to: - Store many words, one per address - Read the word that was saved at a particular address - Change the word that’s saved at a particular address •  •  Random Access Memory 2 Picture of memory •  You can think of computer memory as being one big array of data. –  The address serves as an array index. –  Each address refers to one word of data. You can read or modify the data at any given memory address, just like you can read...

Vodafone Policy

...Vodafone, a good reputation is the key to keep the long term success. Thus customers feedback is really important, keep in touch with the subscribers will help the whole company find the mistakes or weakness. For example, i often heard that Vodafone automatically add a 10 dollar data boost for clients without letting them know the usage, but it might be written in the contract already. However the clients might not be aware of that in the first place, to get ride of these unnecessary conflicts between the clients will definitely help the company rise to another level in the market. That’s why a Regular customer feedback review policy is essential to the whole firm. With the help of this policy, there are hundreds of stuffs will work 24/7 to get in touch with the random clients, any negative feedback will be automatically ranked in the company recent issue board, and customer service manager will starting to follow up and figure out the solution then return to the clients. Starting Warcraft

...World of Warcraft (or WoW as it is sometimes called) Can be a very time consuming game, players can spend countless hours and make absolutly no progress. While other players can max out their character and progress in to the endgame content. The key to Advancing in your fight across Azeroth, Is to find the balance Between the three major aspects of the game, this includes choosing professions, leveling your character and, And preparing for the future. It makes sence to choose professions that match your charecters class and needs, This allows you to craft items that you may use. However this is not the most logical choice. Choosing two gathering professions (such as herbalisim, mining, or skinning) early on Provides you with lots of gold which can be used for learning new skills, and abilities, and mount riding abillities. Choosing two gathering professions, and selling the materials to other players on the Auction House, will even provide you with enough gold to save for endgame. After you create your character, you start at level 1, But you want to hit level 85, so you can experience all that Wow has to offer. The fastest and most benificial way to level your character is to accept every quest that you can find and complete and turn them in 4-6 at a time, Untill you hit level 10. Once you make it to 10, start doing Battlegrounds. Battle grounds are where Members of the alliance, and members of the horde, Battle for controll, some of the battle grounds require......

You want to “write them in this format, with the period way at the end, assuming you got this from the 5th page of someone’s essay” (Someone 5). Also, if someone includes some random tangent in their quote, you can cut out the junk using ellipses. “I’ve got logorrhea, meaning I tend to ramble on incoherently a lot . . . Dream Theories

...disturbance and so on. I have pressure of getting a position in the US, because nowadays non-citizen students outside America are difficult to find a job or get valid US. Working visa. When I wake up, I feel deeply sad that I do have pressure now after my graduation. Theory 1: Dreams Create Wisdom If we remembered every image of our waking lives, it would clog our brains. So, dreams sort through memories, to determine which ones to retain and which to lose. Matt Wilson, at MIT's Center for Learning and Memory, largely defends this view. He argues that sleep is the process through which we separate the memories worth encoding in long-term memory from those worth losing. Sleep turns a flood of daily information into what we call wisdom: the stuff that makes us smart for when we come across future decisions. I think the reason why this dream is important to me is memory. My mother always said that to me over time, so it has become a impression in my mind. Theory 2:The Evolutionary Theory: We Dream to Practice Responses to Threatening Situations Ever notice that most dreams have a blood-surging urgency to them? Why People Dream Theories

...Theory #1 The Evolutionary Theory: We Dream to Practice Responses to Threatening Situations Ever notice that most dreams have a blood-surging urgency to them? In dreams, we often find ourselves naked in public, or being chased, or fighting an enemy, or sinking in quicksand. Antti Revonsuo, a Finnish cognitive scientist, has shown that our amygdala (the fight-or-flight piece of the brain) fires more than normal when we're in REM sleep (the time in sleep when we dream). In REM sleep, the brain fires in similar ways as it does when it's specifically threatened for survival. In addition to that, the part of the brain that practices motor activity (running, punching) fires increasingly during REM sleep, even though the limbs are still. In other words, Revonsuo and other evolutionary theorists argue that in dreams, we are actually rehearsing fight-and-flight responses, even though the legs and arms are not actually moving. They say that dreams are an evolutionary adaptation: We dream in order to rehearse behaviors of self-defense in the safety of nighttime isolation. In turn, get better at fight-or-flight in the real world. Theory #2 Dreams Create Wisdom If we remembered every image of our waking lives, it would clog our brains. So, dreams sort through memories, to determine which ones to retain and which to lose. Matt Wilson, at MIT's Center for Learning and Memory, largely defends this view. He put rats in mazes during the day, and recorded what neurons fired in......

Do You Believe in Magic

...I still remember how at nine out of ten birthday parties I went to when I was a kid, there would always be a magician picking cards, or making white doves disappear. Sometimes they had the rainbow scarves that were supposedly impossible to fit inside their tight sleeves. As the show unfolded, our eyes would turn from an ordinary size to cup saucers. When we were little, that was magic; now, it’s a person who rips off people by learning tricks from You-tube and adding extra pockets to their sleeves. By my age, most kids believed magic to be something that kids believed in, then grew out of when they discovered the opposite gender at about 12 or 14. I believe in magic. I still do. Not the ordinary magic that involves tricks of deceit with white rabbits and doves, though this may sound like a cheesy romantic comedy line or a spiritual guidance line, magic is everywhere. At least to me it is. You can feel it when you’re just in a happy mood, when everything seems to go right. It’s as if the sun is shining brighter on you, the air smells sweeter, nothing anyone says can bring you down, and you’re even able to find that ten dollar bill on the floor. Magic can be the love between two people. The feeling you get when you are with them, love is the most magical thing in the world. Magic is also the relationship of a mother and child is more powerful than any kind of love in the world. She will sacrifice anything for her child. A mother will be your first love, your best friend,...

So the day before first day of school, I renewed all of my school stuff, I just threw it right in the thrash. I got new books, dictionaries and a new cupboard, so I could organize my folders and books into the different classes! Back then my closest friends; you know who - JJ, Michael and my boyfriend Jasper, just thought I was geeky and they would make jokes about it all the time.
