[Description of the case and Company profile] - Movement of movie-rental business in USA
How to provide customers appropriate household to household service? Netflix launched their business model to give customers convenience in order to keep their customers from competitors, has strong retail market experiences with certain unique points of the business.
For seven years, Netflex has been under the fierce competitions in the video rental market, and their business position status can be explained by following the Porter 5 Forces strategic model.
 Rivalry very high: Netflix’ subscription based business model disrupted the movie industry and from then the main players which were Blockbuster and Wal-Mart(Recently Red-box) started to imitate Netflix’s model and today offers similar service at similar prices. Competitive edge is hard to sustain.
 The bargaining power of supplier’s medium low: To save the cost of enjoying their favorite movie with comfortable atmosphere, like in house with families or friends, they paid the costs for the copyright of suppliers. The fixed cost by suppliers is high, so customers are price-sensitive and lead to rental shop. Netflix gets its content from movie studios and movie distributors. Both need each other. Relationship is crucial with suppliers and vice versa due to customers’ sensitivity for their purchases.
 The bargaining power of buyers high: Competition for customers is high. Buying power is high in the general video market because there are many choices for consumers. Switching costs are low. In the case of Netflix, Netflix competes for customers by offering almost any kind of movie broadcasting, movie rental or movie distributor
