1. Describe your outcome from this week’s MyFoundationsLab® assignment.

My outcome for this week’s MyFoundationsLab assignment turned out better than I thought. I have completed all of the study modules and topics that I needed improving on. After doing those activities, it helped me to improve on my skills in reading, writing and punctuation and studying. I really enjoy the videos that play during the study modules because it really helps me understand what I have to learn.

2. Identify the skills you’ve learned this week. How could each of these apply to your academic work? How could each of these apply to your professional work?

The skills that I learned this week were more about study skills. On how to concentrate while reading, taking notes on reading material, getting the most out of reading and rehearsal strategies. Each of these strategies could apply to my academic and professional work by helping me with my reading habits when it comes to academic work because that information can be used in exams and with professional work, my reading habits will improve because of any important meetings that we would have to read important information.

3. Describe the reading and comprehension strategies you will employ. How will these help make you a more effective reader?

One strategy that I feel that I will employ the most is taking notes when I read. Taking notes while reading will help me be more of an effective reader because anything that I don’t understand I write down and look up later. Also another thing that is starting to become very effective for me is setting a reading goal. By doing that I know I can get done what I need done. By setting goals I set myself to read a certain amount of pages a day.

4. What is “primary source material”? Explain why knowing how to identify and use primary source materials is important for academic reading and writing.

Primary source material is reference or resource of material that is original or is used as first sources of information.

...Comprehensive reading for an active young adult , who is a busy parent, full time employee, and extremely active can be time consuming.  For these catagories of people, my advice is to set the goal,  prioritize, plan accordingly and manage time effectively during the week. If the goal is to comprehensively read 100 pages in a weeks worth, my advice is to consider reading in between the working hours, parent hours, and the other activities hours.  This will allow for the reading material not to interfere with any other activities. Prioritizing is putting the most important task at the top.   For these categories of people, my advice is  consider  the full time job  to be the top priority, since it is what he/she gets paid to do.  Second, it will be parent time, third will be reading time, leaving the other activity time for last.  Also, keep in mind that at times the unexpected can take priority.  Factors to consider are taking a sick child to the doctor or perhaps he or she  can become sick and requires medical attention. Planning can help these categories of people accomplish more and feel more in control of their life. My advice to start is by taking several minutes to write down what he or she hopes to accomplish in a week.  Using a weekly planner,  he or she can begin by blocking the times he or she plans to use for work, parenting, and reading since these can be planned in advance and are not as flexible as the other activity hours.     Time management is using the...

I used the text book for most of the assignments this week. I felt like the text book for week 2 and week 3 did a good job of explaining the meanings of the topics presented and did not require additional readings. Chapter thirteen introduced the concept of sustainable income, or “the most likely level of income to be obtained in the future.”(Kimmel, Weygandt, Kieso, 2011). Chapter thirteen also explains how irregular items are presented, comprehensive income, the horizontal analysis, vertical analysis, how to compute ratios, and the concept of quality of earnings. Another valuable media source was the online videos. The video “Balancing the Books: Understanding Financial Reporting” discusses accounting tools, how the balance sheet works, profit and loss, and other topics. Like the previous videos, this video directly relates to and supports the topics in the text. Also, like the videos in previous weeks, the video is a nice change of pace from reading long text. I actually liked the videos used in week two more than the video used in this week’s lesson. The “Jeopardy” style video was a little boring and the way the contestant flashed back to his experiences made it a little drawn out for my taste, however I understand the attempt to make the concepts more interesting.
