Reality Tv Shows on Children

...Reality TV shows on children “Boys and girls alone” is a reality show aired in England in 2009. The protagonists, twenty boys and girls aged 8-11, live alone in two villages (one for the boys and one for the girls) without parents, and have to cook, clean, manage money, etc.,by themselves. In the texts I have been given to read, I am presented to three points of view about the show, from: Andrew Mackenzie, Head of Factual Entertainment at Channel 4, and one of the responsible for the making of “Boys and Girls Alone”. Dr. Richard House, Senior Lecturer in Psychotherapy. Audrey Scott, the mother of one of the kids in the show. In the first one, A. Mackenzie defends the show from criticism and explains that the children were “carefully chosen and screened by experts” and that they lived in a “protected environment with around-the-clock security during production”. He also claims that parents were allowed to withdraw their child at any time. All in all, he can only see positivity about the show. In the second one, Dr. R. House criticizes the show, and calls it “prurient Lord of the Flies sensationalism”. He disapproves of the whole concept, and goes as far as saying the show is equal child cruelty. He also urges Channel 4 to reveal the identity of the “experts” who chose and screened the children before going to the show, so they can enter into a public dialog. He is very critical about the culture in general as well, which he means to be superficial celebrity-obsessed...

Nowadays, the world of television has been discovered by children at very young age. As we know, television is an effective educational tool. With programs showcasing wildlife, scientific theories etc, it helps these children to be broad-minded and also have a better understanding about the world around them. However, we have to remember and be aware that the television also is seem to posses more negative effects than positive ones. A day in a youth's life will generally be filled with activities such as playing with friends, reading, doing homework and being physically active but this can be easily replaced with the presence of television. This is detrimental to their physical and mental development because studies show that the first two to three years of a child's life is where he/she learns through observing, interacting, playing and also exploring new things. Thus if these children are glued and become addicted to these programs on television...

Debate Against Reality Tv Shows

...Information on silk route The Silk Route is a convenient name for the Trans Asia trade routes. At one point it was viewed as a road along which silk from China was brought to Turkey and sold to Europeans. That is an overly simplistic and not terribly realistic view. It was not a single road but a number of interconnecting Caravan Routes over which trade was conducted. Additionally Sericulture only dates back a few thousand years the Silk Route is much older. The Silk Road: Linking Europe and Asia Through Trade The Silk Road is the most well-known trading route of ancient Chinese civilization. Trade in silk grew under the Han Dynasty ( 202 BC - AD 220) in the first and second centuries AD The Silk Road (or Silk Routes) is an extensive interconnected network of trade routes across the Asian continent connecting East, South, and Western Asia with the Mediterranean world, as well as North and Northeast Africa and Europe. The term "Seidenstraße" (literally "Silk Road") was coined retrospectively by the German geographer Ferdinand von Richthofen in 1877 and has since found its way into general usage. It gets its name from the lucrative Chinese silk trade, which began during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE), and was the major reason for the connection of trade routes into an extensive trans-continental network. In recent years, both the maritime and overland Silk Routes are again being used, often closely following the ancient routes. The Silk Routes (collectively known as...

Media Is Socially Constructed

...Society defines reality as the states of things as it actually occur (Turner, 2012), but what if it is constructed by people in this society to turn it the reality that people thought it was reality? Nowadays society has a very rough idea about what is reality and what is constructed society. They can only understand the captivation of the catchword “reality construction” when they understand which thoughts are meant to be replaced by it in the first place: reality so-called. Different background or places of people have different perception of reality. A understanding of reality will be different in western country as they will feel that having a tan skin is prettier by seeing an advertisement where the model have the tan skin. But in country such as Asian, society will prefer more on pinkish skin but not tan skin as tan skin will be known as a lower class of people. What influences the society is their brain. Our brain constructs the reality that we thought it is a reality. Brain is trapped in the darkness inside of your skull, and all it ever sees are electrical and chemical signals. For example, all the colors people see, and so on, that doesn’t really occur; that’s an interpretation by the brain (Eagleman, 2012). Even though nowadays society has done much research on constructed reality, yet the norm that already been planted on the people mind is hardly to be eliminated. From the advertisement that is provided, it shows that the woman is pinned under a man and another...

Ontological Arugument

...of the God. St. Anselm holds the belief that the fool “understand what he hears, and what he understands is in his understanding”, which implied the fool’s opinion: the God exists not in reality, but in the understanding of the eye of the beholder. In the next paragraph, St. Anselm takes an example of painting and states that painter will not understand that the painting exists until he performs it because the painter has the conception in the mind only; therefore, in the third paragraph, St. Anselm concluded that “than which nothing greater can be convinced, cannot exist in the understanding alone”. In other words, the greatest being, God, must exist because existing in the reality is better. In the last four paragraphs, St. Anselm elucidates a premise which is “an object is conceived” by “signifying it is conceived” or by “being understood”. Based on such premise, St. Anselm finds out the most unreasonable aspect of the fool’s theory is the fool should not concludes that God does not exist, because the fool does not understand the God. The second part of the Ontological Argument, Gaunilo’s criticism, uses a metaphor which is the lost island, to show his concept: the idea that the greatest being is so great that you should believe in its existence both in understanding and in reality is very ridiculous. The lost island,...
