ENGL 250: #4 Documented Essay
Suggested Topics

For the Assignment #4 Documented Essay, you will present multiple viewpoints from a currently debated issue. You need to draw your topic from the issues and controversies discussed in Rereading America, or a current debate in anthrozoology (human-animal studies). Here is a list of suggested topics. You may choose one of these, or create your own with instructor approval. Look through the table of contents and chapter introductions in Rereading America and find a debate or a controversy that interests you, and develop your topic in the form of a question that could have multiple answers. Your topic must be narrowly focused enough to cover adequately in a 5-7 page paper.

Family & Relationships: * Do children need to be raised by both a mom and a dad? * An increasing number of people are opting not to become parents. Is this bad for society? * Can a parent who uses marijuana recreationally still be a good role model? * Does lifelong monogamous marriage represent the ideal partnership? * Should prostitution be legalized? Is it wrong to pay for sex? * Should the government prohibit genetically engineering babies? * In what circumstances, if any, should assisted suicide be legal?

Education: * Should colleges require classes in history, arts, and humanities? * Do too many kids go to college? * Should student loan debts be forgiven? * Should the government fund college educations? * Should parents be allowed to homeschool/unschool their children? * Are for-profit colleges bad for students? * Are public schools designed to produce mindless workers?

Money and Success: * Are the rich taxed enough? * Should Americans have access to socialized health care? * Do all Americans, regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic background, truly have an…...

The Ethics of Just War

...The Ethics of Just War Applied Ethics Choose one of the applied ethics topics from the list below. Provide a brief description of your topic and the thesis you chose in the opening paragraph of your paper. This topic should be the thesis that you worked on in Week One and refined in Week Three. Remember that your first paragraph must contain a clear thesis statement as in the assignments from Weeks One and Three. In the body of your paper, examine the issue by discussing how three of the ethical theories presented in this course could be used to answer the particular question you have formulated. Use the core principles of each of these theories to support your discussion. Complete your paper by identifying which ethical theory you think provides the most satisfactory moral answer to your question, or the theory that provides the least satisfactory answer to your question. You should create a list of strengths and weaknesses for each of the theories as applied to your question to assist you with this task. However, you should not merely present the strengths and weaknesses of each theory but must argue that one theory is better or worse than the others in this case. Remember that each paragraph in your body must begin with a topic sentence that clearly identifies the main idea of the paragraph. Your paper should be 1500 to 2000 words (not including the words on the title and reference pages) in length. This means that you should devote approximately 300 words to each of the...

Paper

...of MATH 098 with a grade of 2.0 or higher. ENGL&101 is recommended. Course Requirements and Grading Policy The grade for this class will be based mainly on a midterm exam, a final exam, and weekly quizzes. The weighting of these will be as follows. Final: 40% Midterm: 25% Quizzes:25% Participation: 10% I reserve 10% for “participation” to be applied however I see fit. This may include unannounced classroom activities, so regular attendance is highly recommended. All quizzes and exams will be graded on a curve with the center of the distribution somewhere in the vicinity of a 3.0. Each student’s single lowest quiz score will be dropped, when computing their quiz grade. If you miss a quiz, that will be the dropped one. There will be no make-up quizzes. I understand that sometimes things come up and students cannot make it to class on a given day. That is what the dropped quiz is for. Please be responsible and do not waste it, you may need it at some point. The final will be “semi-cumulative,” meaning that it will focus more heavily on topics from the latter part of the class, but will include some concepts from earlier sections. This is necessary in economics as the early concepts carry through to later topics. Do not get behind. The farther behind you get, the more difficult it will be to catch up. I will give homework each week. This will not be graded but it is highly recommended that students keep up with the homework. This will......

Term Paper Comments and Guidelines

...first was the ongoing need to apply and improve writing skills. The second was to provide an opportunity for the student to select a project management topic of particular interest and expand their knowledge on that topic. Hopefully, this will allow the student to put their time into investigating aspects of a topic that holds their interest, allowing them to enjoy the effort. It should be noted, that while the student has latitude as to the final topic selection the instructor has established the following selection parameters. The topic selected must be from one of the nine (9) project management areas presented in the text. That is not to suggest that you must address an entire knowledge area. You will discover that each of the knowledge areas is actually composed of multiple topics within the context of the larger subject area. Topic Selection Approach It is recommended that you read the 9 chapter summaries to begin to narrow down the topics that interest you most. When you have identified 3 or so that you think are good candidates I suggest you do a little research on each to see what is available and increase your knowledge of the that subject matter. Once you have selected a topic you will be required to submit it, and a minimum of three (3) research sources, to the instructor for approval. When a topic has been approved it can be changed, with the approval of the instructor, at anytime prior to submission. Paper Perspective As stated, the......
