Recycling Plastic Each and every day, animals struggle to survive due to large amounts of plastic located in the Atlantic Ocean. When people throw their trash away on the beach, it is likely going to be blown away in the wind, resulting in pollution. People living near the Atlantic Ocean should recycle plastic in order to prevent sea creatures from getting stuck in it, ingesting it, and to benefit for themselves with a reward. We humans are hopefully smart enough to tell what is trash, apart from our other surroundings. Although most sea creatures are incredibly intelligent, they are not familiar with plastic. This is not a material they will come across every day of their lives. The Atlantic Ocean is full of hazardous piles of plastic, even some sharp pieces located on the sandy ground. When a creature is swimming in their home, they should not have to worry about getting stuck in one of these piles. This is a danger to their health, and if they get stuck they will most likely end up dying. A good food source is necessary to survive. We all need food to live! Plenty of documentaries show sea creatures that have died because they ingested plastic. When they would cut open the corpse for a dissection, the stomach would be full of the material. This is not something that is easily digested, and it could take a long time before they would finally throw it up. A final benefit of recycling plastic, is that you can get money from it! Not only are you doing something good for your environment, but you are getting a reward for yourself! It is easy to find places that will give you money in return for your plastic, and they will take it ant melt it down to make new things. It is a satisfying feeling knowing you are keeping trash out of the ocean, and you also have a little bit of pocket change! These...

Case Study Turnaround at the Preston Plant

...Case Study Turnaround at the Preston plant The Preston plant of Rendall Graphics was located in Preston, Vancouver. The plant was bought from the Georgetown Corporation by Rendall in March 2000. The plant produced Precision coated papers for ink-jet printers which accounted for the majority of the plant’s output. The plant started to experience problems in the quality of their output of the ink-jet paper and had received feedback in late 1998 from Hewlett-Packard (HP) about the problem. The team at Preston worked to resolve the problem and in October of 1999 made recommendations for a revised and improved coating formulation. However in 2000, productivity, scrap and re-work levels continued to be poor. Operations Management team’s response was to increase the speed of the line and made a number of changes to operating practice in order to raise productivity. In the spring of 2000, two significant events happened to the Preston plant. Rendall Corporation purchased the plant, even though it was losing around $2 million a year. Rendall was not impressed by what they found at the plant and it seems that they did not do a very good analysis of the overall operations of the plant and the management of its operations. The second event that happened was that HP asked the plant to bid on a contact for a new ink-jet platform. The main concern that the operations management had with HP’s observations and feedback was that, HP continued to have complaints on......

There are things that go unnoticed in everyday life that needs to be looked at more seriously in order to improve the environment. In order to maintain a healthy environment, society must become aware of how day-to-day activities impact the environment and they also need to be ready to approach and change such lifestyles. So how can we, as individuals, improve the environment? Why When talking about environment related issues, most people just don’t care; they are only doing enough to get by for themselves. The only concerns they have are paying their bills on time, taking care of their family, keeping their job, and being happy. People are contemplating the fact that they are just one person, and the changes they make won’t make a difference so why should it matter. (Savage) If this mind set of people changes then that one person will turn it to hundreds and thousands of people and differences in the environment will start to be seen. The Price for Plastic

...Stuff Works”, plastic bags can take anywhere from two hundred to a thousand years to break down. They also give off toxic chemicals when burned, so burning is a hazardous way to rid of the material. Because of this it is difficult to safely dispose of plastic. According to the same site, less than 1% of plastic bags used in the US are recycled due to recycling costs being much higher than the recovered plastic is worth. States are attempting to find new strategies to reduce the number of plastic carry-out bags from grocery stores and other retail outlets to help with the issues arising. They believe regulating the use of bags can lower harmful impacts to oceans, rivers, lakes and the wildlife that inhabits them. Reducing bag use can also relieve pressure on landfills and waste management. One of the methods being experimented with is charging for the plastic bags given out at grocery stores. This is definitely something stores should try to help out both economically and environmentally. Economically, charging for plastic could help the world in a few ways. It would profit the community, it would put more money into recycling as more people buy reusable bags, and it could cut costs on manufacturing these bags, making it possible to put money elsewhere. Charging for plastic would create an extra income for grocers and make it possible to lower item prices in the store, which would greatly benefit the community. Imagine if all items were price cut by 20%, even 40%? How......

...| Green Bank Report: Finding the best green banking deals and rates * Home * Eco-Friendly Banking * iPhone * Green Bank Deals * Credit Cards * Savings Rates * Checking Accounts * CD Rates What is the Meaning of Green Banking? Posted by Clark Schultz on Friday, September 10, 2010 · Leave a Comment  Defining green banking is relatively easy. It means promoting environmental-friendly practices and reducing your carbon footprint from your banking activities. This comes in many forms. Using online banking instead of branch banking. Paying bills online instead of mailing them. Opening up CDs and money market accounts at online banks, instead of large multi-branch banks. Or finding the local bank in your area that is taking the biggest steps to support local green initiatives. Any combination of the above personal banking practices can help the environment. So this leads to the question, which banks are green. In general, online banks and smaller community banks have better track record than larger banks. For instance, take a look at the banks that British Petroleum has been reported to seek lines of credit from this past summer after the oil spill. Goldman Sachs (GS) Citigroup (C) JP Morgan (JPM) Bank of America (BAC) These banks have at least one thing in common. That is, they are all large billion-dollar asset banks. They are also in the group of banks that received TARP money in the government bank bailout program. In would seem......
