Now, there is no question that these two stories are similar, the setting is very similar, they have the same basic plot, and the protagonists both share similar personalities and qualities. It is important to note the difference between the story being told by the novel and the film. There are just as many differences as there are similarities. Fistful of Dollars is not a direct adaptation of Red Harvest. There are differences in character motivations, storytelling style, and the overall messages the book and movie are conveying.
To start off, the settings of both Red Harvest and Fistful of Dollars are quite similar even though they are set in different time periods. The Personville is a poisoned city not only through pollution but also the …show more content…
In general, both works of fiction follow the same basic storyline. A man rolls into town, he meets the parties of the conflict, he learns more about them, he devises a plan to stop them from fighting using whatever means necessary, and finally once all the town’s threats to peace have been eliminated then he leaves. Now this is a very simplistic version of the events that occurred in the novel and the film, but it is still basically what happened. There are many major differences in the detailed plot. Like the fact that in the novel, the reason that the continental op is there in the first place is to solve Donald Willsson’s murder and ends up solving the murders of Tim Noonan and Dinah Brand as well. The film also introduces characters that have their own subplot that is completely separate from the novel. In the film, the man with no name helps save the small family of Marisol, Julio, and Jesus. This subplot of the film added a religious element that the book did not have. The scene where the man with no name helps the family get away is also a gesture of kindness and compassion that the continental op never showed. The Continental op only became close with Dinah Brand in the novel and in the end, he did not save her and for a portion of the book he was the suspect of her

Shawshank Redemption Essay

...highlight the purpose of the visual or oral text(s). In the film The Shawshank Redemption by Frank Darabont, symbolism was used to highlight the importance of holding onto hope. Darabont's use of different symbols at different points in the film educates the viewer in the importance of holding onto hope. "Remember, Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies". Shawshank Prison was represented as a place of hopelessness at the start of the film. However it was through the opera scene, the libary and the symbol of water that that the viewer could get an insight to how "hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies." Shawshank Prison was represented as a place of hopelessness. The conditions and brutality set about to dehumanise the prisoners and destroy their hope. During Andy's arrival at Shawshank, the symbol of the prison yard is highly symbolic, reflecting how it is imposible to escape, how crushing the system is. The system and forebidding. The prison yard is shown with a helicopter travelling shot revealing the massive Gothic towers and high walls, the immense area of the compound, in comparison with which humans are puny and insignificant. It also gives the reader an insight of the "high security" intimidating nature of the surroundings. This is shown with surrounding stell mesh fencing, grey walls, a bleak sky, ruthless guards, gates guarded, tight security, guards up high with machine guns. Surrounding...

Roygbiv Lightwaves as Plant Growth

...different color of light waves. Each color has different function and uses but it depends to what color is the light will be used. As we all know, we need sunlight in order the plant to grow but in this research we can therefore conclude that plants can also grow without the presence of sunlight but instead we can use the ROYGBIV colored cellophane light waves in order the plant to grow. Also, we wanted to avoid the use of chemical fertilizers because it can affect the environmental issues and human health in a negative way. By avoiding the use of it we can attain the safety of our health and to avoid the negative effect in the plants and organisms that balance the organisms. Upon trying many colors of light waves, we have proven that the red and blue colors have the greatest impact on the plant growth, while the green light appear to be the least effective because it only gives color green to the plants. We need to follow the correct process on how to use the light waves or otherwise, we can’t make this experimentation to be successful. Calaveras Vineyards

...they have had a lot of positive growth in spite of the constant change in ownership. If a company is still able to maintain its growth and brand image during challenging times like that, how much more growth can you expect when the company finally gets owners in there that want to invest and stay with it. In the past year, 1992, Calaveras Vineyards did have a drop off in sales but this was due in part to their lack of representation by a sales organization. I agree that Goldengate Capital should invest in Calaveras Vineyard. This is based on several factors such as the Net Present Value of the firm, the projected sales, and the potential growth of the company in their market. Currently Calaveras was currently being held on Stouts PLC books as $7 million and the purchase price of $4.1 million would be considered a significant discount. All of these factors, and more, pointed toward going ahead with the loan. Ninety-five percent of U.S. wine exports are from California. This is expressed statistically in the following manner: $1 billion winery revenues in 2008 (again, a 630% increase from $137 million in 1990), and 55 million cases sold to 125 different countries (which is up 630% from 12 million cases sold in 1990). 526,000 acres of California’s land is used for wine grapes, despite the fact that vineyards cover less than 1% of the state’s terrain. Additionally, 3.06 million tons of harvested wine grapes and $1.84 billion is the worth of the Farm Gate value of wine grapes...

Coffee Taxon

...Exploring Distinctive Characteristics & Virtues of Coffee Varieties: The Bourbon & Pacamara Case Overview: This document explores from different angles the Bourbon variety, one of the heirloom Arabica species and the Pacamara varietal, a very intriguing hybrid. Here you will find their botanical characteristics, agricultural practices, and how their versatility and cup profile fit within the fastest growing specialty “espresso-based beverage” and exotic coffee niches. Brief Botanical Description of C. Arabica Typification: It is necessary to establish a normal variety or type variety, in order to compare against it the different mutations. In C. Arabica, the “Typica” variety had been chosen as the blueprint or pattern (Kramer). When compared to some Ethiopian types it appears that “Typica” was chosen for growing purposes because of its resistance and productivity characteristics. The word “Variety” and its equivalent “Cultivar” have been applied to coffee, as for other plants, referring to variations due to two reasons: Mutations: These are expressed as more or less abrupt changes, such as a marked deviation in height or leave shape, etc. Mutated plants are descendants from a normal one and are considered as such when they permanently keep the new type after being propagated by seed. (i.e.: Maragogipe, Pacas, Caturra, etc.) Hybrids: These are natural or artificial crosses between varieties or species. When these plants are propagated by seeds they don’t...

The Examination and Comparison of Food Between Han Dynasty China and Ancient Rome By Joaquin Velazquez 2/7/2024 Ancient Rome and Han Dynasty China were very similar empires, despite being seven and a half thousand kilometers away from each other. According to Jacqueline M Newman, in her text, “Han Dynasty Foods” (2005), “Among the meat and poultry items, or parts thereof, are chicken, crane, deer, dog, duck, frog (bamboo chicken), goose, hare, magpie, ox, pheasant, pigeon, sheep, sparrow, and turtledove.” There were a great deal of meats that the citizens of China feasted on and enjoyed. Many of the largest carriers in the nation had filed for bankruptcy protection and were asking the federal government for help so they could survive. Certainly few people at this time considered the airline industry to be an extremely profitable venture, but where others saw despair, David Neeleman, CEO and founder of JetBlue Airways, saw opportunity. In 2002, after 2 years of profitable operations and less than a year after the attacks that shook the industry to its core, JetBlue Airways had its Initial Public Offering (IPO) and went public. This case study outlines the IPO underwriting process and uses JetBlue as an example to describe the steps throughout the way. It also asks the analyst to come up with a valuation for this IPO, based on the financial and non-financial data presented. In the following pages, we will discuss the pros and cons of going public, the IPO process itself, and walk through the calculations that led us to our...

What is Critical Thinking? * Definition: A self-guided, self-disciplined process which directs individuals to think correctly about themselves and the world around them. It is an essential method that guides its adherents (someone who supports a particular party, person, or set of ideas) towards truth. It involves investigation, analysis and self-corrective decision-making which provide a consistent and coherent (of an argument, theory, or policy) logical and consistent) way to solve a problem and conclusion. * It is through the process of questioning what you see, hear, and experience that you can come to a conclusion to make a wise decision * Point of this book is to challenge you to “know what you believe” and “why you believe it” not to make you a skeptical question everything weird-o. * Hebrews 4:12 - “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” * King James Version “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” * Homo sapiens means “thinking man” To be a balanced critical thinker you need: * Rehearse: You must...

Gujarathi ABSTRACT: Diamond Foods is America’s largest walnut processor specializing in processing, marketing, and distributing nuts and snack products. This real-world case presents financial reporting issues around the commodities cost shifting strategy used by Diamond’s management to falsify earnings. By delaying the recognition of a portion of the cost of walnuts acquired into later accounting periods, Diamond Foods materially underreported the cost of sales and overstated earnings in fiscal 2010 and 2011. The primary learning goal of the case is to help students understand the anatomy and motivations of earnings manipulation. Specifically, students will have the opportunity to (1) apply the FASB’s Conceptual Framework to a real-world context, (2) determine the nature of errors and compute their numerical effects on financial statements, (3) understand motivations for earnings management and actions needed for managing earnings of future years, (4) explain the anatomy of financial reporting fraud by reconstructing journal entries, (5) prepare comparative financial statements for retroactive restatements, (6) explain the rationale for clawback provisions in compensation contracts, and (7) understand the difference between the real and accrual-based earnings management.
