Effective teachers are a direct correlation between professional development and teacher evaluations. Society has the view that public education is failing its students, community, state, and national government. For this perception to change teachers and students must be viewed as being successful. It is up to the leadership of the schools to provide the professional development necessary for this perceived change to take place.
Bryk, Harding, and Greenberg Anthony S. Bryk is the ninth president of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. He held the Spencer Chair in Organizational Studies in the School of Education and the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. He was also the Marshall Field IV Professor of Urban Education at the University of Chicago. Heather Harding is the vice president of research and public affairs for Teach for America. Previously she served as executive director of Teach for America’s Eastern North Carolina region. Sharon Greenberg is the cofounder of the Center for School Improvement at the University of Chicago now the Urban Education Institute. She also served as a literacy consultant to the Chicago Public Schools Chief education officer. Greenberg is a consultant for the Aspen Institute managing the Building a Teaching Effectiveness Network. The authors have established their expertise in the field of education through their individual works. Harding, “as a doctoral student at Harvard Graduate School of Education, worked with a small cadre of colleagues and Katherine Merseth to refocus the small and elite Teaching and Curriculum (TAC) program on preparing teachers for the challenges of urban schools” (2012, p. 85). ...Educational Administration Articles The article Principals’ Values in School Administration was written by an assistant professor in Educational Administration at the University of Osmangazi in Turkey. The author’s source was from the Educational Sciences: Theory and Practice journal. I found this article interesting because it discussed the values that principals should have. The data was obtained from nineteen principals from different types of schools in Turkey. The results from the study showed that principals should have some common values such as justice, confidence, school rules, and sedulity. The principals interviewed felt that power should be used as needed, but should also be equal with teachers and parents.
