Value Reflections Paper

...Running head: VALUE REFLECTION PAPER Values Reflection Paper Value Reflection Paper An important personal value that I hold in my life is my spirituality. Spirituality can have many different definitions, depending on who is asked. It can be something as simple as looking for a higher meaning to life, or something so complex that one can base their beliefs, religion and overall life around it. There are several different ways to express one's spirituality; rituals, songs, dances, stories, and writings are all common methods of expression. Finding spirituality in something can make someone feel enlightened and bring strong emotion and deep feeling. Several authors have based some of their writings on their spirituality. Some of these writings are as intricate as the Bible or as basic as an article in a local newspaper, but the meaning and passion behind them should never be doubted. In my personal value system and for the purpose of this Value Reflection paper, spirituality is forever tied to knowing God and doing God's will. We often hear the word "spirituality" used to signify that one has faith in a higher power. Spirituality as it is seen in Christianity is to believe in God. As a Christian, we believe that God loves us. We believe that Jesus died for us. We believe that Jesus rose from the dead with all power in his hand. Spirituality as it relates to Christianity says believe on a merciful God that loves and offers us redemption in spite of, and because of, our sins...

My Reflections

...My Reflections on Counseling Counseling Reflection I have to say that before this experience, the longest counseling session I had with any client was only 10 minutes long, and even with that I would use the word success loosely . Therefore, after discovering that we would be having a 30 minute session with a new client, I became extremely anxious. A tornado of worries swept through my mind, “What if I say something wrong? What if the client says nothing? What if the strategy I go in with doesn’t work? And what can we talk about for 30 minutes?” But, as those worries sprang to life, I remembered some wise advice that helped alleviate my anxiety. Within the assigned readings for my psychology class, I have learned that in order to succeed you have to fail, and that I believe goes with everything in life. As blunt as that may sound, it is an accurate statement in regards to becoming a counselor. I will not instantly become a great counselor and I will inevitably fail and make many of mistakes during my training, but these mistakes will help pave my way towards becoming a successful counselor. Prior to beginning my 30 minute counseling session, I repeated this phrase over and over again while practicing some deep breathing to calm myself down. This mind set and relaxation process helped me appear calm and collected, even though on the inside I was a nervous mess. After a few moments of pulling myself together, I began the counseling...

Ethical Decission Making

...Ethical Decision-Making Reflection Paper Jo-Ann Morgia Grand Canyon University: PCN-100 10/19/2014 In the world of alcohol and drug counseling there are important issues for the addiction counselor to understand which is ethics and boundaries. The counselors code of ethics is very imperative and understanding the possible situations that may come into play during a professional relationship. Some boundary example situations can be dual relationships, boundary crossings, and bartering. Even though these situations are common there is still a question to what is ethical. Some situations are very clear to understand but then there are some other situations that are not as clear to understand. I will explain how applying an evidence based decision making model will assist in preventing boundary crossing from progressing into boundary violations, reflect my understanding of a counselors code of ethics, and explain why following this model is so important to the success of the client’s treatment. Bartering is not unethical or prohibited for counselors but things may not quit work out the way it was planned. Bartering is services or goods given instead of a payment. An example of bartering is if the counselor is treating a client and the client is a hairstylist that is having money troubles then the hairstylist may make an offer to cut and style the counselors hair. At first this may seem like a good deal especially when the counselor is long overdue for a hairstyle...

...Allen Covington HUM 201-001 Prof. C. Lincoln Self-Reflection Essay Introduction Self-reflection has been defined in a number of ways, but for the purpose of this thesis I will use it in a contemplative manner, toward the end of, relating how my experiences; ‘could affect my career as a Social Worker’. This self-reflection paper is personal. It shares the impact that HUM 201 has had on me, and my understanding of; what will be expected of me as a person and professional. As I understand the goals of the essay, it is to have someone consider and think about future uses of this knowledge being acquired. As part of my preparation for this paper, I looked back on the course from the beginning of the semester. I looked at my goals as a future educator in the field of ‘Human Services’, and thought about how this semester has changed my perspective (this coming from someone not unfamiliar with human services) on what it takes, to truly be effective as a leader in the field of social work as a result of this course. Through this self-reflection I’ve noticed the inter-play between my personal knowledge and what is being taught, the ‘role’ of ‘social worker’ first came to my attention at a very young, I lived in a family constantly in need of social services. The most striking realization I came away with is, the sway the psychological and sociological perspectives relate to each other (in very complex ways), more than you’d acknowledge without serious training to ferret out...

Asking for Help

...Asking For Help: A Self Reflection Assignment: from Personal to Professional Responses Professor Robyn Brown-Manning SW 717 Social Work Practice and Learning Lab Assignment 1 We live in a world or society where there are certain fundamental needs, which are important in facilitating our development. “These needs can be considered in two overall categories: the need for security, and the need to accommodate the drive toward growth,” (Brill, 2005, pg. 27) all of which can be fulfilled by education. As a citizen of the United States, in an egalitarian society where educational advancement is fostered, I was able to become closer towards achieving the American dream. Education was also seen by my immigrant family as an important factor in attaining greater opportunities and ultimately an improved lifestyle. The process of accomplishing the American dream is one which is not always easy and comes with many challenges. One important challenge was getting the resources I needed to further my academic goals, which was hampered by my parents’ inability to understand the educational system in the United States, and my parents’ limited financial assets. As a result, I knew I would have to depend on outside assistance. This proved to be a difficult task for me, because as a male I felt there was a negative stigma associated with asking for help from an outside source as this may display vulnerability. Nevertheless, with dedication and support from those...

...This writer will also discuss her finding s about the statures and laws as they pertain to North Carolina and give a summary of each. Finally the writer will discuss her reflection and how she could put these to action in her counseling career. Summary The video presentation was very interesting. It allowed actors to discuss real cases to give a better understanding about Confidentiality, Privilege, Reporting, and the Duty to Warn. It gave a clear picture of how these things, though they may sound similar are quite different in many ways. The first case was about a young boy was taken to the hospital by his foster parents. He was unconscious with bruises down the spine of his back and a bruise under his eye. When the nurse questioned her about it she stated that it was from being jostled in his car seat. The nurse did not make any note of that observation nor did she call CPS to report possible abuse as she believed what she was told by the foster mother. Dominic was then brought back to the hospital four days later suffering from head trauma and then died. Nurse Brown was being charged with a crime for failure to report the abuse. It is noted that health care professionals are mandated to report suspected child abuse or they could be charged with a crime. Nurse Brown defended her position by saying that the stature that requires healthcare professionals to report suspected child abuse was unconstitutionally void for vagueness. In this case the trial judge dismissed...
