Reflection 2: Exam Prep

In the book they first start off with the difference between quizzes and Exams. Then they go on to talk about the first step being, take smart notes. It starts off with making sure you are taking the right notes down and not things that you will not need for the quiz or exam. They want to make sure you get the big idea out of each topic. Then they go on about the question, evidence, and conclusion. This is the way that they think people should take notes. The way I take notes is different. I find it hard to think of a question while you have to take notes at the speed of the professor is giving the lecture. What I do is make sure I mark the title of the section that I am taking the notes on then mark the notes from the section accordingly with other symbols. I find it easy to take notes in my calculus class and in my physics class. In my accounting class the professor does not have a slide show and does not lecture so it is very difficult to take notes in that class. I manage to get notes down in every class so that I can understand the material. Next the book talks about demoting assignments, and how you should choose which assignments to do over others. If you have multiple sources to read for a paper then you should only read the most credible sources so you get the important material and don’t read the same thing multiple times.
I have not had a class yet that gives out multiple reading assignments for a paper. The book gives a good a good example that I would use if I did have and assignment that was like that. I think it would make sure I get everything that I need to know.
Next the book talks about making a study guide for your classes. They talk about ripping out your notes and putting them together by topic. Then they say to make questions for the study guides so you can answer them to study from.
I mark at the top of the page of my notes so I know which exam each page is for. I have a real problem with taking my notes out of my notebook because they can get lost more easily then keeping them in my notebook.
Next is the full on studying point, when I study I like to look over past quizzes because majority of the time the professor will put that question on the exam or a variation of a question. I tend to focus more on the quizzes with the lower score. And after it talks about taking the exam and how you should give A+ answers. I go through and read the questions before I start answering and I will go to the ones I know and answer those first, then try at the harder ones.
Overall I think I have a very good way at going about taking notes and studying. It isn’t a perfect way though and sometimes I do study material that I do not need to know, but with a few suggestions from the book I believe I can slightly add on to the way I do things and make understanding things easier.

...Definition of Reflective Practice Reflective practice is a way of studying your own experiences to improve the way you work (Deakin, 2010) Reflective practice highlights the importance of learning from experiences after thinking about it and relates the practical experiences to the theoretical learning approaches (Oxbridgewriters, 2011). ...mirror would reveal the truth. The woman has discovered that her physical appearance is changing and she cannot come to face the terms due to the fact that her reflection is aging. The woman’s reflection is observed in the mirror where communication commences between the mirror and the woman. The mirror is candid towards the woman, who is oblivious to the truth about her beauty. Sylvia Plath uses personification to display the human attributes such as truthfulness. “I have no preconceptions. I am not cruel, only truthful” (Plath l 4). The quotation illustrates that the mirror is speaking to the woman and the woman does not have any preconceptions. It displays that the mirror is an inanimate object. The mirror demonstrates truthfulness, not cruelty. The mirror speaks the truth whether it is good or bad, because the mirror does not lie. Visual imagery is portrayed in the poem because it displays an insight of what the woman sees in the mirror. “Now I am a lake. A woman bends over me. I see her back, and reflect it faithfully” (Plath l 10,13). The quotation illustrates that the point of view is coming from the lake. The woman has to bend over in order for her to see her reflection from the lake. The woman does not only want to see her reflection. She hopes to find who she really is as a human being. The woman is studying herself through the lake. There is a...

Cm107 Reflection

...Unit 9 Reflection Christy Gatlin CM107 Unit 9 Reflections For this assignment I have been instructed to reflect back to the unit two assignment and unit three journal entry. In the unit two assignment we were asked to discuss our goals for college composition 1. Looking back at the goals I set for myself I do believe that I have achieved my goals. My goals were to learn how to correctly write an introductory paragraph and a conclusion paragraph. This course has helped me reach those goals. Strategies I used to achieve those goals was doing research, using the reading material given to us through the Kaplan Library and studying. Without the reading material and the professor being so helpful I don’t think I could have achieved the goals I had set for myself. I am most proud of myself for learning how to write a thesis statement and why it is important. I never really knew how to start a paper correctly. Having an effective thesis in your introductory paragraph is very important. It can make your break paper. The thesis is a statement that tells what your paper is about and why. The project I just completed has taught me a lot. It has taught me to be more comfortable with my own writing skills. It has also taught me that I still need to work on citation and giving proper credit where it is due. I understand why we do citations but I just still need to work on it. I will have to use this in other classes for papers. I think now is a time to set another goal for......

Term Paper

...1. In your answer, identify the main lines of argument and differences in points of view between the commentators and the author. Justify your own point of view regarding the importance of reflection to individual and organisational performance. In his article, “I Don't Have Time to Think!, Versus the Art of Reflective Practice”, Joseph Raelin defined the importance of reflective practice, laid down organizational strategies that encourage reflection, and called for developing the skills of reflection. Two commentators, namely Phillip DiChiara and Philip McArthur, presented contra-arguments as to the standpoint of the author on reflective practices. DiChiara's main argument evolves around the creation of a “safe space” to make reflection viable, whereas McArthur reckons the key barrier to reflection-in-action is not necessarily time but skill. Besides, he disagrees with the author on how to apply certain skills of reflection at the individual or collective levels. Philip DiChiara opines that the concept of reflective practise is essentially unknown to many practitioners. His main argument is that reflective practice can never flourish if the organization or managers do not set the stage and create an environment for reflection. He argues that managers have to facilitate the correct balance between “getting down to business” and nurturing a conducive environment for refection in order to engage their peers. In his belief, this is essentially due to the differences from......

“Se Habla Espanol” by Barrientos;

...Melvin L. Cromer Strayer University Personal Reflection Journal May 21, 2016 PSY 100- Psychology of Adjustment Professor Derrico I have many priorities in my life with which I must deal each and every day. Not only do I choose to be a model student but I choose to be a model citizen as well. I must reflect morals and values which I have learned. I need intelligence, professional appearance, affection, family support, and skill to succeed. Nothing has ever come easy to me. Everything I possess I had to work hard for it, so I know there will be stressful times. I have to be able to handle stress positively. The word school, in itself, entails stressful times. Some of those worries include grades, assignments, but most importantly financial debt. For example, studying for midterms all in the same week can really put a burden on me. A positive way of dealing with this school related stress is to utilize money and time wisely by setting a schedule. Maybe by prioritizing schoolwork and then putting extra-curricular activities where and if time allows will eliminate stress . Another positive way of dealing with the stresses from school would be to listen to music right before class to relax and even give some motivation for the upcoming class. Having confidence and high self esteem is a great trait to have. I believe confidence and self esteem is something that is instilled in a person from a peer, family member, or a......

...boundaries and leads to better communication and therefore a better outcome for the patient. (Pullen & Mathias, 2010) Being able to reflect upon situations is vital in the role of the nurse. Being able to examine personal thoughts and perceptions enables the nurse to have greater self awareness and build upon strengths and develop personal and professional competencies. (Somerville, D. et al 2004) Reflection has been described as being able to think about a situation, make sense of it and ultimately learn from it. (Clarke and Graham 1996) Taking a period of time to reflect and review a situation allows a person to move on and through the learning experience, become a better practitioner (Bulman et al 2012) By being able to reflect and ask myself what would I do differently or could my practice have been better will only help to develop my skills and knowledge and influence my future as a practitioner in a positive way. Having looked at several reflective models of learning, such as Gibbs (1988), Driscoll (2000) and Dewey, I have decided to use the Kolb (1984) model of reflection throughout this assignment. Kolb's (1984) experiential theory of learning has four distinct stages of a cycle. This incorporates an actual learning experience; being involved in a situation, then observing someone one else in that situation, reflecting upon...

...of communication amongst the health care professionals and how a good nursing documentation is an integral part of nursing. It will also demonstrate how reflection enabled me to make sense of and learn from this experience, as well as identify any further learning developments needed to improve my practice and achieve the level of competency needed for when I qualify as an assistant practitioner. While discussing the knowledge underpinning practice, evidence based literature will be reviewed to support my discussion and for the purpose of reflection the essay will be written in the first person. Spouse, J, et al (2008). Jonhs, C (2009) defined reflection as learning through our every day experiences, towards realising one’s vision of desirable practice as a lived reality. He also added that it is a critical and a flexible process of self inquiry and transformation of being and becoming the practitioner you desire to be. However, Ghaye, T et al. (2000) stated that for the health care professionals to develop a more reflective posture, they must fully embrace both the principles and the practices of reflection. It is about becoming more aware of how we learn and how this affects what we think, feel and do. There are different models for reflection; some are more complex and detailed than others. To help me with my reflection, I have chosen Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle as a guide: The names of the patient, staff members and health care setting will be changed to......

...Learning through reflection 2 Reflection is an active process whereby the professional can gain an understanding of how historical, social, cultural and personal experiences have contributed to professional knowledge and practice (Wilkinson, 1996). Duffy (2007) believes that reflective practice is an active deliberate process of critically examining practice where an individual is challenged and enabled to undertake the process of self-enquiry to empower the practitioner to realize desirable and effective practice within a reflexive spiral of personal transformation. Learning is derived from experience but it doesn’t just happen. For it to take place you not only need to engage in reflection you must also record it. By thinking about what you are doing and why you are doing it is what turns your experiences into meaningful learning. If you are to become a reflective practitioner you have to use that learning to increase your professional knowledge and skills to the benefit of not only yourself but also to your patients / clients. Why Reflect Reflection is really a process that begins with looking back on a situation, pondering over it, learning from it and then using the new knowledge to help you in future similar situations. Reflection, which is learning through experience, is not a new concept. As humans, we naturally reflect on our surroundings and experiences. However, the conscious, deliberate and ordered process of using reflection as a learning......

Third Reflection Paper

...GE 2218 Third Reflection Paper “Write your own script for your play” this is the most impressing point I have learnt form Mr. Ki ‘ s success on his career, which is also the major principle for his career management. In this talk, Mr. Ki shed light on the meaning of success from different perspectives and dimensions. I can tell from his career that he is satisfied with what he did in the past and what he is doing now. There are two essential factors I can draw from his experience, reinvent your career and refine your life. For the points that he raised in this talk, I quite endorsed his unique perception on career that it is divided into three phases. “ Work for success”, “ work for significance” and “ work for legacy”. Apart from myself, I guess most of the people value ones’ success by wealth and positions. Mr. Ki , however, adds to that life structure, purpose, identity and significance. Exemplified by Mr. Ki ‘s career, he retreated from his respected working position just at the prime of his career simply because he wanted to do something meaningful, not only to his life but also to the whole society. So he transfers his prowess to help and engage in social enterprise project. Reinventing one’s career is equally important in a sense that it helps put your career into perspective, and achieve a balance of life, just like what Mr. Ki mentioned, the second career, the parallel career and the social career. Besides, always reflect on you experience as well as have a......

Reflection on Mentorship Practice

...Examples of Reflective Writing Example 1 I arrived on the ward at 7:30 ready to begin a 12-hour shift. After receiving handover, my mentor assigned me the job of bathing Mr B with the help of a healthcare assistant. Mr B has Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a progressive disease of the nervous system with rapid deterioration due to spongiform encephalopathy. He is not expected to live to Christmas, even though he is only 19 years old. He is mentally aware of what is going on but is physically unable to demonstrate activities of daily living, including eating and drinking, has limited communication skills and is doubly incontinent. He is unsafe on his feet so mobilises with a wheelchair. I approached Mr B’s bed and asked his consent to take him for a bath. While the bath was running we began helping him to undress. He looked rather nervous. At the thought of myself being in his position, being the same age as him, I began to feel embarrassed too. I thought that I could not possibly be a professional individual if I let my embarrassment and sympathy get in the way of my nursing care. We assisted Mr B into the bath and started his wash. I knew he was uncomfortable and wanted to be able to wash himself, but was unable to do so. I was finding it difficult to look him in the eye, especially when it came to washing his genitalia. I tried to ease this by making conversation, but in a way this made matters worse. After the bath we dried Mr B, dressed him and returned......

...Date: 27th October, 2014 Title: Morrisons breaks pledge on low prices Link: http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/business/Retail_and_leisure/article1475669.ece The ethical issue was related to credibility of a company. It was about Morrisons the supermarket increased prices of some products marked with “I’m cheaper” sign after promising to cut prices permanently on over 1000 goods six months ago. The supermarket claimed the rise in prices was only a reflection of “commodity inflation” and still “lower than they would have been” without the “I’m Cheaper”cuts. No doubt by increasing the price of goods, the supermarket could compensate the losses from the inflation in supply costs. This do help to maintain profitability of the supermarket and strengthen the confidence of its investors. Also, even though the prices had been raised, they were still lower than the general prices of these goods. The promise of enduring price cut was kept. It was a win-win situation in the eyes of Morrisons. One of the problems arose in this issue was the reputation of Morrisons towards the customers was deeply affected. Although action of increasing the prices due to inflation was justifiable, Morrisons still broke part of its vow of long-lasting price cut. A credibility gap between Morrisons and customers might have been develop as a result. Moreover, the intention of the supermarket was to maintain its profitability while the issue of the news had leaded to a fall in its share price of 0.46...
