THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NURSING INFORMATICS & PATIENT SATISFACTION
Daisy Michele Mattei
University of Arkansas at Little Rock

I will be discussing the relationship between patient satisfaction and the role nursing informatics plays. The expansion of health information technology may have an impact on patient satisfaction and outcomes either positively or negatively. More and more healthcare providers are using health information technology (nursing informatics), to improve patient care. I will also be discussing the impact of the electronic health record on improving the efficiency, safety, and privacy of healthcare today, along with the skills nurses need related to informatics and technology.

Patient satisfaction is an important indicator of healthcare quality. “Satisfaction is an attitudinal response to value judgments that patients make about their clinical encounter.” (Kane RL, Maciejewski M, Finch M, 1997)
Nursing Informatics is a specialty that integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge and wisdom in nursing practice. (McGonigle D, Mastrain KG, 2012, p. 95-96) (ANA, 2008, p.1) The goal of nursing informatics is to improve the health of populations, communities, families, and individuals by optimizing information management and communication. (McGonigle D, Mastrain KG, 2012, p. 95-96) (ANA, 2008, p.1)
Information technology has dramatically changed the way nurses work. It is clear that advances in technology and the internet have transformed consumer and professional access to information and has influenced changes in public policy and the public’s role in healthcare. (McGonigle D, Mastrain KG, 2012, p.95)
The main goal of any application of technology in the hospital setting is to improve outcomes and patient experience, which in turn leads to greater...

Reflection Two: Information Management

...Reflection Two: Information Management Jessica Quiñones-Gruetzmacher Walden University NURS 6015: Information and Healthcare Technologies Applied to Nursing Practice Dr. Juanita Rass April 15, 2012 Introduction Nurses have various roles when dealing with clients. Some of those roles are caregiver, communicator, teacher, advocate, leader, manager, and researcher. This course has added other roles to the previous list, such as data gatherer, information user, knowledge user and knowledge builder and those roles can be achieved by the use of informatics or nursing informatics (Hebda and Czar, 2009). The purpose for this paper is to reflect on theories, concepts and strategies presented in NURS 6015: Information and Healthcare Technologies Applied to Nursing Practice. NURS 6015 Impact on Personal Attitude Nursing Informatics When this course started my personal attitude was one of skepticism. My thoughts were really negative and crude such as, “how is this course going to help me with my job?”, “is it totally necessary?” or “what is the importance of this course?” Now my way of thinking is one of acceptance, understanding and curiosity. New ideas pop in my head, questions begin to take shape and learning moments start to make sense. All the time spent in my clinical practice is a time for putting the knowledge learned in NURS 6015 into use. “Nurses need to be adept at using patient-centered information technology (IT) tools to access information to expand......

Team Paper

...Week 2 Learning Team Reflection ACC/561 May 21, 2015 Rick Freeman Week 2 Learning Team Reflection The week two learning team reflection is a discussion focused on the differences and usages for comparative and ratio analysis. The use of multiple sets of data for comparison to detect trends is comparative analysis. Comparative analysis demonstrates trends within an organization. With continued use, Comparative analysis can identify diminishing trends through the use of quarterly data analysis. Ratio analysis also helps to establish trends, and make financial comparisons that assist management in making healthy financial decisions. Also, ratio analysis identifies strengths and weaknesses within an organization that allows management to make strategic decisions that benefit the success of the operation. According to Wiley (2013), “Information from financial statements can be gathered by examining relationships between items on the statements and identifying trends in these relationships” (Chapter 13). The relationships are numerically expressed in percentages or ratios, then trends can be recognized with a comparative analysis. With comparative analysis, the exact same data is provided for two or more different periods so similar data can be compared. Ratio analysis only provides a glimpse, due to the analysis being for a single given period. With comparative analysis a company can determine whether a trend is diminishing or growing from......

Business Research

...Business Research Reflection 2 Name RES/351 Date Larry Oslund Business Research Reflection 2 Discuss your thoughts of how you can apply this research process to a real or realistic business setting or decision-making situation. Length: About two or three paragraphs. I am in a business setting now and am working my way into the management program at my company. In this class, I have benefited tremendously from the information I have learned in this setting. Learning how to take certain stats from different termite companies or pest companies and make charts and plot sheets to compare possible sales strategies that would benefit our company and make myself a successful manager within the company. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning how to store data and learn google scholar to find certain articles whereas plain google does not so much offer the information that google scholar goes more in depth with. Even the simple process as being able to create these charts that show many different business variables that can help me in my business. This has been a very difficult class, but has offered a lot of information that will be proven to be quite helpful in my degree in business management. Over all, I have obtained quite a bit of knowledge in this class setting and will be able to greatly apply this to my future in business. Optional: Are there areas in business research that this course did not cover or spent too little time discussing? Length: A paragraph THE......

Scm - Bullwhip Effect in Lego Game

...Casper XXXXXX Casper Supply Chain Management Supply Chain Management Introduction First and foremost the game provided an understanding of the bullwhip effect and furthermore also insight to the challenges of distributing material and information within a supply chain. I have applied the cause-effect theory in order to obtain an understanding of the root causes, the reasons, to why the bullwhip effect, the result, occurred in the supply chain in the LEGO game (Slack, Chambers and Johnston, 2010). Hence the structure of this assignment will be based upon a cause-effect analysis which treats the experienced bullwhip effect as the result. Thus this assignment describe the causes of this effect identified through reflecting upon the LEGO supply chain game played September 25, 2015. Bullwhip effect The bullwhip effect is unexpected distortion of information observed in a supply chain and can be caused by demand fluctuations e.g. variability, which is processed and amplified through the companies in a supply chain. The demand fluctuations are amplified as they are processed upstream in the supply chain and hence the swings, the demand order variability, of the “bullwhip” can be expected to increase the farther upstream in the supply chain a company is located (Lee, Padmanabhan and Wheng, 1997). Reflections and learning outcome from the game I will divide this reflection and learning outcome section in two parts; (1) Round 1 where each “function” in......

At work, in interpersonal communication, we continue to receive information, to deal with new life and professional situations that require us to new knowledge and skills. Thus, to achieve success in everyday work and home pushes man to search for effective models and approaches in teaching, life-long. It has long been noted that different people have the same information, assimilate, and then reproduce in different ways. That is, individual ways of thinking associated with different styles and models of education, which are different approaches in the selection of methods of education.
