Reflective Essay About My Writing Analysis

This semester of English 111 has taught me many things about my writing. I have learned that one of my best strategies with writing is getting a head start. I have learned that I will produce a better paper if I work on it periodically rather than all at once before the due date. Writing a paper periodically allows my brain to take a rest between each night. While my brain does get a rest, writing periodically also allows me to think of new thoughts and ideas that I want to incorporate into my paper. Along with this idea, a strategy that doesn’t work as well for me is trying to do too much at once. For the Paradise Lost Analysis and British Literature Analysis, I tried to do everything in one night so I wouldn’t have to worry about it any more. This technique put even more stress on me and made me overwhelmed. Although my literary analyses seemed strong in my …show more content…
This book has really taught me the importance of including the thoughts of others in my writing. I have also acquired the skill of how to write effective analyses and research papers. The “Argument!” book explains how to write each one of these papers in an excellent way. Due to this, my writing process is now more concise and confident. I feel like I always have a good grasp of what I am doing and I feel confident while I am writing my paper. My strengths as a writer is my attention to detail. I always tend to create a paper that is loaded with detail in my eyes. I prefer to have papers checked over before turning. Last semester, I never once had the teacher look over my paper before turning it in. During this quarter, I have found that having the teacher look over my paper really helps me produce a better paper. Another preference is to get the paper done before the due date so I can finalize it and correct any grammar and punctuation

...EWRT 211 Reflective Essay November 25, 2013 Reflective Essay When the semester first began, I was unsure if EWRT 211 was going to be like any other English classes I've taken in the past. I could safely say that, this class was nothing like I've experienced before. For our first assignment, we were told to write a detailed analysis and our understanding of the authors message. I was introduced to citing quotes and writing page numbers and immediately started to make it a habit. The next new idea that was introduced to me was writing concert specific details. For example, in high school I gave very broad examples and rarely gave my nouns a name. I struggled to get used to this new writing style. After writing a couple essays in this class I've learned from my mistakes of not giving enough specific details. Ive tried to improve my writing with better structure and techniques. Therefore, I feel I am prepared for EWRT 1A because I have established to write a structured essay with a strong thesis with specific examples with a common theme. In the first in class essay the writing style had been extremely close too what I had been used too. It wasn't until my second in class essay,"New ways to Defuse Violence", that I learned the importance of structure of the essay. This essay required us to compare and contrast between two different articles and give a detailed analyze of them. This way of writing was foreign to me because no one had ever asked me to do this. Reflective Writing

...Reflection? Why reflective writing? Reflection offers you the opportunity to consider how your personal experiences and observations shape your thinking and your acceptance of new ideas. Professors often ask students to write reading reflections. They do this to encourage you to explore your own ideas about a text, to express your opinion rather than summarise the opinions of others. Reflective writing can help you to improve your analytical skills because it requires you to express what you think, and more significantly, how and why you think that way. In addition, reflective analysis asks you to acknowledge that your thoughts are shaped by your assumptions and preconceived ideas; in doing so, you can appreciate the ideas of others, notice how their assumptions and preconceived ideas may have shaped their thoughts, and perhaps recognize how your ideas support or oppose what you read. Types of Reflection Experiential Reflection: Popular in professional programs, like business, nursing, forensics and education, reflection is an important part of making connections between theory and practice. When you are asked to reflect upon experience in a placement, you do not only describe your experience, but you evaluate it based on ideas from class. You can assess a theory or approach based on your observations and practice and evaluate your own knowledge and skills within your professional field. This opportunity to take the time to think about your choices, your...

End of Life Care

...Examples of Reflective Writing Example 1 I arrived on the ward at 7:30 ready to begin a 12-hour shift. After receiving handover, my mentor assigned me the job of bathing Mr B with the help of a healthcare assistant. Mr B has Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a progressive disease of the nervous system with rapid deterioration due to spongiform encephalopathy. He is not expected to live to Christmas, even though he is only 19 years old. He is mentally aware of what is going on but is physically unable to demonstrate activities of daily living, including eating and drinking, has limited communication skills and is doubly incontinent. He is unsafe on his feet so mobilises with a wheelchair. I approached Mr B’s bed and asked his consent to take him for a bath. While the bath was running we began helping him to undress. He looked rather nervous. At the thought of myself being in his position, being the same age as him, I began to feel embarrassed too. I thought that I could not possibly be a professional individual if I let my embarrassment and sympathy get in the way of my nursing care. We assisted Mr B into the bath and started his wash. I knew he was uncomfortable and wanted to be able to wash himself, but was unable to do so. I was finding it difficult to look him in the eye, especially when it came to washing his genitalia. I tried to ease this by making conversation, but in a way this made matters worse. After the bath we dried Mr B, dressed him and returned him...

Senior Reflective Essay

...Senior Writing Project-Reflective Essay As I look back at the writings I have created in these past few years, I realize that other than my junior year, I haven't written any narrative pieces, in any classes. The focus throughout my high school curriculum has been toward argumentative, analysis, and informative writings. Only in my junior year did I write my first creative writings in the form of a short story and a poem. The first creative writing I had to write a "Vomit" Draft. A vomit draft was the very first draft of a paper with little to no guidelines. "Bring two minutes to life" was the only instruction. We had to throw down 500 words without paying any real attention to punctuation or grammar. This kind of freedom associated with such creative writing was an alien concept to me. Getting used to writing without a structure that we had to follow, without a set of guidelines we had to abide by took a while. But, this kind of writing really helped me learn and improve, not just my writings, my organization and my time management skills as well. Knowing that I had to write such a demanding paper (it turned out to be fourteen pages longs), I had to improve my time management skills, which, up till junior year, hadn’t really been a challenge. Forcing myself then, to distribute time wisely has really helped me now, with the terrific pressures and burdens of college applications. This creative writing segment in my junior year helped my prepare, in a way, for these college...

Reflection

...What didn’t? Why? How do I feel about it? We don’t usually follow a formula for this, it just happens as feelings, thoughts and emotions about something gradually ‘surface’. We might choose to do something differently, or not, as a result of reflecting, but reflection is essentially a kind of loose processing of thoughts and feelings about an incident, a meeting, a day – any event or experience at all. Reflection can be a more structured way of processing in order to deal with a problem. This type of reflection may take place when we have had time to stand back from something, or talk it through, as in: ‘On reflection, I think you might be right’, or ‘On second thoughts, I realised he was more upset than me.’ Structured reflection If we consciously reflect, maybe as part of our work or family role, there tends to be a rough process of ‘How did it go? What went well? Why? What didn’t? Why? What next?’ Examples might be of a football coach reflecting after a match, a teacher reflecting on a lesson, or simply a parent thinking about how best to deal with a teenager. In this kind of reflection, the aim is to look carefully at what happened, sort out what is really going on and explore in depth, in order to improve, or change something for next time. This brief guide will look at what is meant by reflection, suggest forms of structured reflection to improve the way you learn, and also outline how to use a model of reflection to structure a reflective assignment 2 Key elements...

Reflective Essay - 186 Acc

...Assignment 2 A Reflective Essay Student ID: 186 ACC Coursework Assignment 2 – A Reflective Essay Introduction In this assignment I will be drawing upon what I have learnt in this semester’s module in order to better reflect on my strengths and weaknesses by supporting it with work and research conducted throughout the course. In conjunction with this I will be drawing upon the skills audit I conducted to help me create an action plan that addresses my individual needs and help develop a broader skill set. This would therefore make me more confident in communicating effectively in different situations. The course aims and objectives will be used with questionnaires, quizzes and other formats that were used to evaluate myself and preferential styles to show my strengths and weaknesses in this essay. In the introductory week we undertook a skills audits that helped us identify what our individuals learning styles where. I quickly learnt that I had similar results from both the audits and questionnaires which hinted that I am more reserved and observant. I was also told that I am very insightful and can express my own opinions well. The skills audit showed that I am more of a reflector/theorist (Online Skills Audit). Strengths and weaknesses: Main body I believe that all of my strengths are rather similar and therefore helps me conform very strong arguments which boast depth, analytical flare, and descriptive analysis. Reflective

...TOPIC: Reflective essay on the teaching session and facilitating workplace learning module. INTRODUCTION As a requirement for the pre-registration program in Nilai University, I have to take Facilitating Workplace learning module. The aim of this module is to enable me to become a better facilitator in the future. Having experiences from my previous clinical posting, I realized that nursing profession is not only about patient’s bedside care, but also workplace improvement by facilitating others for example students, colleagues and patient health teaching. Gopee (2011) defined facilitating learning is that the learner becomes aware that they should be the originator of their thinking, meaning to say the learner should take more control of their learning instead of passively receive information from the teacher. In addition, facilitating learning is usually form part of healthcare’s professional code, as mentioned in code of practice by Nursing Midwifery Council (2008) that registered nurse must be willing to share their experiences and skills for the good of their colleagues and must facilitate student and others to develop their competent. In order to fulfill this subject, I have two main parts to complete. First, a plan for facilitating a learning session applied all the relevant theories that have been lecturing, and the second part, I am going to write here is a reflective essay using Gibb’s (1988) reflective cycle on what I have learn from this module and my learning...

Time Management

...management to eliminate defects and time wastage. An inspiring quote which emphasizes on the importance of time management is: “Time stays long enough for those who use it” and from this quote we can sense the deep meaning of time management skills. Reflecting on your personal work will help in learning from past experience; also it allows for personal and professional growth. A reflective essay is a way of writing in which the writer illustrate and describe his or her personal experience. Reflective writing is done by describing the facts which made up the experience and by evaluating the whole experience after it have been done by looking on what when well and what did not. The Terms and Conditions of My Life According to Jimmy

...Reflective Self-Analysis My portfolio demonstrates my understanding of persuasive writing. My idea of persuasive writing is that a good essay will affect the reader in some way shape or form. I believe combining effective uses of logos, pathos, and egos along with structure are very important. My persuasive writing reflects the way I think about argumentation in general. I can see how easy it can be to write a paper arguing a point, but not doing it in the correct manner. For example, if a writer just argues his point without giving any strong evidence and offers no counter-argument the paper will not be effective in persuading the reader. While my writing demonstrates strengths in organization and thesis development, I will continue to work to improve proofreading skills and sentence structure. What’s helped my writing this semester is that I feel confident about work. My writing demonstrates my strength in organization. A lot of this strength originates from class activities and notes. The class that had the biggest effect on me was when we learned about rhetorical analysis structure on page one of my handwritten evidence. In my notes I specifically write down the structure along with extra notes under some categories so I fully understand how to attack the assignment. This led to me getting a perfect ten score under the argumentative structure part on the grading rubric on my rhetorical analysis essay, which is titled “Exposing Education.” Since that learning moment...
