I have always loved Language Arts. I have always been infatuated with anything that had to do with books, writing, grammar, and more. My writing has essentially always been superior to most of my peers, mostly because I am passionate about writing. I always try my best in my writing assignments, even if they contain dull and unnecessary topics my past teachers have chosen for me to write about.
My past Language Arts teachers were accustomed to giving out very unnecessary topics to write my essays on. They also gave specific essay outlines that I had to follow so that all essays in the class were almost identical. I believe I am an independent writer and I prefer to start my essays from scratch. This allows me to make my essays stand out from everyone elses. I also prefer to choose topics I enjoy writing about so that I am extremely passionate about the subject. I love challenges such as writing my own essays from …show more content…
I enjoy writing narratives because I can have my own ideas. Thereś more room for my own creativity in narratives compared to other writing. I also enjoy writing argumentative essays because it is mostly about my own opinion. In other types of writing, such as informative, my own opinion is not acceptable. In argumentative writing, I can share my own opinion and thoughts with the reader. Argumentative also includes finding evidence to support my claim. I am not entirely sufficient with this skill but practicing finding evidence helps my improvement. My least favorite type of writing is informative writing. In informative writing, it is strictly about what the information explains. I am informing the reader about a certain subject which is something I do not enjoy. I love to share my own opinion and thoughts with the reader. In informative writing, there is no room for interpretation or creativity. There is a strict way to write informative essays which I do not care

Ssk12 Assisgnment

...Two reflective entries Reflective entry 1: New Beginnings Deciding to attend university as a mature age student was a decision I did not take lightly. I am working towards furthering my education in order to gain the necessary qualifications that will help me in my future business endeavour. I have found that after so long out of the education system it has been a difficult transition juggling study and work. The first units that were chosen for me in study period 2, I thought were difficult to understand having never written an essay before and without the knowledge or know how, I was not able to complete these units. SSK12 has given me a good understanding of what it takes at becoming a university student and in particular the skills on writing essays. As I have mentioned previously up until study period 2, I had never written an essay and did not fully comprehend how important the set out of a university essay was. Choosing an Essay Question was an important part of my learning in week 6 because this has now given me the beginning step in writing a university essay using the correct format. I am feeling a lot more confident when approaching the subject of essays as I now understand and have the knowledge on the procedure in completing an academic essay and what is required. I now know that by firstly choosing a question will then help you to with your thesis and this in turn will give you your main idea and sets the way in which to write your essay. ...

Reflective Paper

...A reflective essay is a piece of writing that basically involves your views and feelings about a particular subject. The goal of a reflective essay is to not only discuss what you learned, but to convey the personal experiences and findings that resulted. Writing a reflective essay is your chance to reveal and talk about your personal insight about a topic. Reflective essays are used as a self-assessment measure of sorts; they allow you to address your experiences and what you've gained. The reflective essay consists of your individual views on the matter and an explanation of your stance. The goal of this essay is to successfully relay your own beliefs, attitudes and observations. In some reflective essays, you'll be required to support your conclusions by citing materials such as books, journals, articles and other resources. A reflective essay should reflect your own thoughts on the subject matter, not those of others. The poem by Langston Hughes, “Theme for English B”, brought back memories of myself growing up during the times where it was truly a white only and black only world. It was not college that I had to endure the color barriers but it was going to elementary through high school. I went to an all black school until I entered high school. The plot seems to take on a very structured, by providing detailed background information. The plot is clearly connected to the setting as Hughes states “I am twenty-two, colored, born in Winston-Salem. I went to school there...

...Basic Elements of An Essay [pic] Introduction of the Essay The introduction should detail what is contained in the paper. The introduction is usually only a paragraph, three at the most. The writer should sum up the introduction with a TOPIC SENTENCE which supports the main idea of the essay OR CLARIFYING STATEMENT. This will allow the reader to know the subject of the paper and an introduction to that subject. This is one of the most important things cited by the professors. Writing a Purpose Statement An example of a purpose statement is ‘Mutual funds are backbone of the economy of any country’. The Body of the Essay Paragraphs - First sentence contains the topic sentence, which supports the main idea of the essay. -  The following sentences contain main points you're making about that topic -  Other sentences support those main points with examples, explanations, etc.  (Who, what, where, when, how, etc) The body of the essay is essentially the "meat and potatoes" of the paper. Several paragraphs will explain the topic that you are discussing. The paper will prove or disprove the purpose statement. There will be many citations, references and information which will lead the reader to understand what the paper is about. The body must be relevant to the subject, with clear and concise thoughts. Compare and Contrast: the Advantage of Narratives over Descriptive

...encounters they experienced. The author chooses two different methods of writing styles. E.B. White utilizes a nostalgic reflective descriptive piece, whereas Brady uses a more sarcastic narrative. Arguably both writers do a great job in their story telling skills. Both stories are respected and pleasing, yet similar but different at the same time. The authors’ choice of writing style is what gives one story more of an advantage to the other. Though descriptive and narrative essay have identical intent – to tell the reader a story- narratives are more effective in capturing the audience because the uses of different voices, they bring ideas into perspective and they are relatable. There are special components that both style of writing possesses. Narrative writing usually does not stress adjectives to give the physical details of characters, setting or events in the story. Nothing like descriptive writing, narrative writings are written in the first person in order to convey the author's attitudes, beliefs and memories. Narratives are conventional, while descriptive writings content often emphases on a single event, object or place. Occasionally, writers utilize narrative writing style to tell about the past or the future in broad terms. A narrative often reflects personal experience, clarifying what happened during some sort of incident. Narrative essay topics include recounting an experience where the learned something significant, such as losing a tooth, first day of high...

Rhetorical Analysis

...WRT 205 C.C. Hendricks, Instructor Keeping Portfolios for Students Principles of Portfolio Keeping: 1. Choice: "Writers make many choices, selections, or decisions at every stage of the writing process, but they are not always conscious of those choices; the portfolio method makes them more aware of their decision process" (Reynolds 6). -In this course, you get a choice as to which papers you will revise, out of the three completed this semester, to revise for a FINAL grade in the portfolio. 2. Variety: "A writing portfolio invites you to show off your writing ability and the ways you think about different kinds of assignments for different audiences. Variety is one of the reasons that portfolios are considered a more valid measure of a person's writing ability, especially when compared with a timed multiple-choice test that can only measure grammar, style and usage, punctuation, and mechanics. When your instructor sees your portfolio, he or she is seeing more than one example of your writing, pieces written at different times and for different audiences" (Reynolds 6). -In this course, variety comes into play with the types of papers you're completing, which all span a variety of genres, audiences, and types of writing. -In addition, you are encouraged to include other pieces of writing as well, perhaps from outside this course, which will lend another element of variety to your final portfolio. 3. Reflection: "You will be asked to take a careful look at your...

...Paper * Connecting with a group of doctoral students for the first residency is very challenging. Most of the students admitted to having feelings of misperception, worry, or uncertainty. Meeting someone new is certainly not comfortable, however the anticipations and nervousness of a doctoral program is adequate for someone to ask why one would choose to embark on a titanic venture.   This residency has encouraged me to withstand in my program.   There were more than a few eye-openers that revealed progress and improvement as a doctoral student.   In the last five days, various lessons and experiences were imparted and learned but the most important lessons for me include the learning team experiences, scholarly writing, and reflective journaling on the lessons learned. Learning Teams During this residency experience, I acquired a lot about learning teams.   In my academic and professional experience, I have been a part of numerous teams.   I have had some bad encounters with teams during my period with the University of Phoenix and acknowledged that the team experiences at residency would be similar.   I definitely applied my situatedness but I understand now a cohort of different personalities can form a successful team where all opinions are heard, all ideas count, all contribute and all appear to demonstrate an authentic interest for one another. We had various chances to work in learning teams.   We reviewed course articles, course competencies, and were...

Previous Class Reflective Essay

...in Supply Chain, Management 29th October 2015 Reflective Essay on 22nd October 2015 Lecture. At the start of the semester when I registered for this class I thought it would just a walk in the park kind of experience, but I have come to understand that as the course goes on that the class will enable me to interact with other classmates, creating more confidence in me by improving my writing, social and leadership skills. The case study exercise exposed the art of mobilizing others to want to struggle for shared aspirations and also how one person makes a difference in a group. Writing about my personal goals and reflective essay, made me see how much I have improved in my writing and learning. Most of all this class helps me to know more about the role of leadership in supply chain management. The student leadership challenge as I was made to understand is to help me identify able set of skills and abilities that will enable me to effect a change in my present environment and also in the future. I learned that in group projects that each person is accountable for something in a group and if one person messes up than the whole group gets the consequence of the result. In view of this fact I feel more relaxed knowing that each person in my group knows what they were accountable for and would not let the group down on the job. This has increased my awareness of being accountable on what decisions I make as a future leader.   My critical...

English 103 Essay 1 Assignment

...103 Essay 1 Assignment Argument: Hospital statistics regarding people who go to the emergency room after rollerskating accidents indicate the need for more protective equipment.  Within this group of people, 75 percent of those who had accidents in streets or parking lots were not wearing any protective clothing (helmets, knee pads, etc.) or any light-reflecting material (clip-on lights, glow-in-the-dark wrist pads, etc.).  Clearly, these statistics indicate that by investing in high-quality protective gear and reflective equipment, rollerskaters will greatly reduce their risk of being severely injured in an accident. Writing Task: How well reasoned and convincing is this argument?  In explaining your point of view, be sure to analyze the conclusion, the line of reasoning, and the use of evidence in the argument.  Also discuss what, if anything, would make the argument more sound and persuasive or would help readers better evaluate its conclusion. 2-3 pages typed, double-spaced Use Times New Roman 12 point font, 1” margins. Submit your essay to Turnitin.com and print out the Originality Report to bring to class on Monday (if possible) or Wednesday (at the latest). Also bring in two copies of your final draft to class: one for me; one for peer review. I will put the essay assignment and peer review sheet on MyGateway. I think that looking over the peer review sheet will give you some good ideas as to how to write your essay. Hints: • The key to this essay is to...

Reflective Essay

...Reflective Essay I actually remember doing something similar to this my junior year in high school, the assignment was entitled “Me as a Writer.” How far have I truly come as a writer since then? Focusing on what this class has taught me, I can already say without any doubt that my writing has improved compared to what it was my first day of college. There were so many aspects of this class that positively influenced me as a writer. To name just a few: the discussion board, the assigned readings, and you as the instructor. The discussion board made me more open to criticism, it taught me that in order to become a good writer you must first learn to be a good communicator. You have to be able to communicate your ideas with others and listen to the ideas of others. It’s a sort of give and take process. Before, I was more closed minded on other people’s input on my work, I thought I could do just fine by myself for the most part. Now, I’m willing to listen to criticism and I understand how to use that criticism in order to better my writings. The readings were also super beneficial to my development as a writer. I learned so much about how to be an effective writer. I learned how to use certain techniques to improve the quality of my work. The readings allowed me to take a step back and see the art of writing as a whole, and then allowed me to focus in on specific characteristics of writing. For example, Kleine’s article taught me that I needed to become a more balanced “hunter”...
