Reflective Essay
Before I returned to school, after taking an almost 15 year hiatus, I had been told by
several people that psychology was boring. I found the opposite to be quite true. Quite a few
questions that I have had over the past decade were answered as well as ones that I never realized
I wanted to learn the answers to. I learned a lot of new things and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
While discussing ‘Biology of Mind’, I found that the brain structure had me on the edge
of my seat. While I enjoy learning how and why things work the way they do, I feel that the
brain caught my attention. A few weeks prior to the spring semester beginning, my uncle had a
severe brain injury due to a tree falling on him. After I was told about his new behavior, I was at
an advantage as to understand why there was such a drastic change. I was able to understand that
his limbic system was affected. He was very aggressive and angry toward the staff at the hospital
which was caused from the damage to his amygdala. He also displayed damage to each brain
hemisphere, some symptoms were more severe than others. The damage to his frontal lobe
caused him to try to leave the hospital every chance he could, not able to resist the urge to stay.
Within approximately two weeks after the accident he struggled to recognize family and friends
caused from damage to his occipital lobe. He also suffered from short-term memory loss which
is an effect of damage to his parietal lobe. The most damage caused by the accident occurred
within his temporal lobe. He explains long-term memories he remembers, however none of his
memories actually occurred. He also remembers things that he couldn’t remember before the
accident and forgets the memories he had. As soon as he woke up, after sedation, he would
confuse his words, an example was when asking for his “clothes” he…...

...Reflective essay: Intro: Vital signs are a fundamental component of nursing care and indicate the body’s ability to maintain blood flow, regulate temperature and regulate oxygenate the body tissue. Taking vital signs are essential in revealing any sudden changes in the body, which could potentially indicate clinical deterioration of the patient. As a first year student I was assigned to take a patients vital sighs while my peer videoed it. Throughout the video blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and temperature was recorded to check if everything was in normal range, while ensuring a comfortable environment, and communicating with the patient to build trust and confidence in my ability to make an accurate assessment and judgement on the results of her vital signs results. Para 1: hand wash Prior to taking the vital signs, I demonstrated and explained how to theorectically wash your hand and dry them, this was a social hand wash lasting between 15 – 30 seconds (Tollefson, 2010). A social hand wash- The removal of any jewellery is essential before undertaking Hand hygiene and wash and must occur * before and after shifts, * between patients, and when * dealing with any bodily fluids. The social hand wash ensures the prevention of cross contamination between both patients/ staff and the increase of bacteria dispersing from one patient to another. Para 2: blood pressure I made sure that the environment was comfortable for the patient. Providing...

...POLS 432 Dr. Robert Wood Xu Zhao 0886325 Reflective Essay During 16 weeks, I had a lot of fun in this POLS 432 class. I chose this course because it was major required. As an international student, I felt a little scared at the beginning of the semester since I know nothing about the American policy and I don’t have any friends in this class. It took me a while to adapt into this class style. First, we started from Shambaugh/Weinstein book, and the West Wing episodes. Shambaugh/Weinstein book is about introduction of the Art of policymaking process. From the web book description, it says Author Paul J. Weinstein Jr., who was Chief of Staff of the White House Domestic Policy Council during Clinton's administration; he brought a unique and valuable insider's view to the book. This book also provides some real life examples that helped me a lot in reading some of the concepts. For example, I had no idea of how to write a memo when Dr. Robert Wood introduced us different types of memos. After class, I went back home and read the format of a memo and examples related to that memo, I got the idea about what is a memo look like and how to write it. Indeed, I think the time I get to know about what was going on and what this course is about is right before spring break. Dr. Robert Wood was very thankful. The midterm study guide he provided for us helped me a lot about knowing the course materials, especially the White House staff members. I have learned a lot while I...

...REFLECTIVE ESSAY FOR MARKETING, INNOVATION AND DESIGN Reflective writing is an intricate process of inscription, what one learned from a particular area and how it would be useful in the future. In my reflection I would construct an assertive image of what exactly happened during the marketing module. Looking at the outcome of my reasons to pursue my MBA, my strengths, and the areas I want to improve on. The marketing, development and Innovations module has the learning and developing goals for me as I see a clear need to reintegrate into the learning environment, since I do not have a first degree, I was exempted because of my eight years of management experience. Being part of a working world and doing a MBA means that I would be faced with many challenges, personally, professionally and educationally. However, I embraced the challenge even at times it was difficult to juggle my commitments. Initially my thoughts were that marketing module was simply about sales, however, it was mainly about Innovation and design. From the first lecture, the main thing that attracted me towards marketing was the efficient teaching style of the Lecturer, practically the way of explanation, teaching methods and the learning tools that the lecturer used which were mainly power point slides, which was then emailed to the class. The Lecturer motivated and encouraged me, this factor has positively contributed to the amount of interest I formed towards the subject. The marketing module...

...REFLECTIVE THINKING ESSAY TWO This week I am going to focus on two things, the first being the most significant thing I learned last week. I learned last week that the leadership style that I seem to fall into is the Management by Exception style. The reason I use this style is due to the nature of the activity of my shop which tends to be idle until we get jobs specific to Aero Repair. I tend to stay in the MBE-Passive style while the shop is idle and move into the MBE-Active as the work arises. I discovered that as the shop is idle it is easy to fall into this style of MBE-Passive and kind of take a back seat and deal with things as they come up. When the shop gets work it tends to be time sensitive and require strong leadership, this is when I tend to adopt the MBE-Active style. The second thing I would like to cover this week is, if I could change one thing about my leadership, it would be to try and develop myself more into a Transformational leader. I feel that by developing myself more in this leadership style, it would have a direct impact on my personal development as a supervisor, and have a positive impact on my subordinates. By capitalizing on the idle time my shop has between major jobs, I could work on developing the four I’s within this leadership style. The key to this development would be to take a more active role in developing my subordinates as leaders, conducting training sessions, and working on my own personal technical growth. By being proactive......

...Reflective Essay on Negotiation Zhaokun Lin 26096137 1. The ability to know how to negotiation effectively will be the key point in our decision making and our future work. In the week 4 tutorial, we were required to participate in a role play activity on negotiation that involved three characters: a manager (Dale Williams) and two subordinates (Pat Taylor and Chris Johnson). I was allocated to act the manager and my two friends were my subordinates. Because of the company regulation, the employees in the company must wear safety glasses to avoid accident no matter what the department they are in and how their experience is. But there are two issues on me which are that a 20-year experience staff, Pat Taylor always does not wear safety glasses while Chris Johnson who is just distributed to my department because he has bad relationship with previous manager. The responsibility of me is to conduct a negotiation and let them wear safety glasses. I think it is a really interesting activities and allow me to learn many thing from it. 2. ...Marcellus Bowie English 102 Reflective Essay Reflection English 102 has brought a really great point to me in life that no matter what class you are in you have to think creative. In the entire course there was nothing but writing. I can honestly say English 102 has taught me to be a better researcher and a better writer. The writing for me was super hard in the beginning of the course. I have never seen myself as a writer I suffer from an extreme case of writer’s block which causes me to give up without giving a shot at the work. The extra help has made me feel as writing will never shy away from you in life so just write. The annotated references played a big role throughout the course this semester. The role annotated references had been the whole outline of this course without the annotated I had nothing to write about. First I struggled with the concept of the references I realized that there wasn’t a research paper without the references. The references were one of the most time consuming aspect of the paper. The research question had to have a connection towards the refernces The difficulty I encountered in English 102 came about from the grasping of the material, the details in the rubric, and the guide lines. The biggest thing I had a problem with was staying on topic, and giving too much of my personal opinion in my writing. The structure of the class is made to stay on top of your independence of the reading and writing. During the course of the class...

...In this assignment, I will reflect on my teaching section I am going to use Gibbs (1988) Reflective cycle. This model is a recognised framework for my reflection. Gibbs (1988) consists of six stages to complete one cycle which is able to improve my teaching section continuously and learning from the experience for better practice in the future. The cycle starts with a description of the situation, next is to analysis of the feelings, third is an evaluation of the experience, fourth stage is an analysis to make sense of the experience, fifth stage is a conclusion of what else could I have done and final stage is an action plan to prepare if the situation arose again. (Source :Gibbs 1988) Gustaffsson and Fagerberg (2004) emphasizes on the advantages that could be gained from reflection mainly among registered nurses or RNs. They examine the questions on the implications of nurses’ reflections, the subject matter of their reflection and how they are able to deal with their reflection and how they improve their professional approach through reflection. The authors describe the experiences of the nurses and their reflection in relation to the nursing situations to understand how the nurses use reflection in their daily work. I am going to use the same approach to analyse my teaching section and improve where I have lacked to achieve required standards. Baird and Winter (2005) gave some rationale why reflection is required in the practice. They state that a reflect is to...

...Reflective Essay on Managing Compex Situations Name Course Details Professor’s Name University Affiliation City and State Date Reflective essay on Managing Complex Situations Introduction As a health care assistant working with the district of nurses, I have gone through some of the most complex situations that often leave me with complex decisions. Ideally, some of these situations have greatly impacted on my understanding of various patients who I handle on my day-to-day activities in the health care sector. While working with District Nurses who are involved with visiting patients in various homes in the community, I encountered patients with various psychological and physiological disorders. Prudently, it is worthwhile to note that the patients who we visited had various health problems that ranged from individuals who were housebound and could not travel to seek medical attention. Besides, some of the patients had nursing needs such as leg ulcer dressing, wound dressing, pressure ulcer dressings, and catheter insertion as well as its removal. Description One of the most complex situations that I experienced was trying to take blood from an elderly patient with dementia. Since the patient was at her residential home and had never seen me before, she was not aware of my main purpose for visiting. Moreover, I had no prior knowledge of her state with dementia. At the time of my arrival, the patient was comfortably sitting in her chair while cradling...

...Reflective Essay I actually remember doing something similar to this my junior year in high school, the assignment was entitled “Me as a Writer.” How far have I truly come as a writer since then? Focusing on what this class has taught me, I can already say without any doubt that my writing has improved compared to what it was my first day of college. There were so many aspects of this class that positively influenced me as a writer. To name just a few: the discussion board, the assigned readings, and you as the instructor. The discussion board made me more open to criticism, it taught me that in order to become a good writer you must first learn to be a good communicator. You have to be able to communicate your ideas with others and listen to the ideas of others. It’s a sort of give and take process. Before, I was more closed minded on other people’s input on my work, I thought I could do just fine by myself for the most part. Now, I’m willing to listen to criticism and I understand how to use that criticism in order to better my writings. The readings were also super beneficial to my development as a writer. I learned so much about how to be an effective writer. I learned how to use certain techniques to improve the quality of my work. The readings allowed me to take a step back and see the art of writing as a whole, and then allowed me to focus in on specific characteristics of writing. For example, Kleine’s article taught me that I needed to become a more balanced...

...Student Name: Ouyang Jizhi Student ID: 25041568 Tutorial Time: 8am-10am Friday Tutor: Steve Perryman Reflective Essay on Negotiation During this tutorial we were asked to have a role play activity on negotiation which include three different characters: a manager (Dale Williams) and two subordinates (Pat Taylor and Chris Johnson), in which I was assigned to act as Pat Taylor, an experienced technical personnel in a medium-size company. From this role play I gained a deeper understanding of my preference of influence skills as well as a clearer vision of what I can do to improve them and apply them into practice on daily basis. Natural preferences for influencing tactics In the first role play my preference of tactics tend to be focusing on pressure and emotional appeal in that I did not really have enough time to prepare for the reasoning. When the manager Dale Williams mentioned the accident happened before which result in the new rigid policy of wearing safety glasses I failed to figure out how to refute except using the emotional skills such as pleading and flattery. When these moves turned in vain I changed my strategy into pressure. I cited that I was the most respected person in my team and I knew better in safety than anyone else in this firm. However I am aware that this statement is untenable and without support, which makes me even more passive in this situation. Afterward the manager Dale Williams finally begin to use the...

...Joshua Mage Eng-111 Reflective Essay Perspectives As Changing as the Tides It’s amazing how our perspective changes as we grow. I grew up a southern boy. As a matter of fact, my childhood home was about six blocks from the Gulf of Mexico, making my childhood about as southern as one could ever hope to have. I have fond memories of aquamarine waters. My childhood friends and I would hop on our bike with all the fishing gear we could muster up packed in a red ryder wagon attached securely to the back of our bikes with a little twine. The harbor master knew to look out for us, and knew which phone numbers to call, if we decided to start act foolishly. I spent a countless amount of time on that beach fishing, floundering, crabbing, and swimming in these waters. I relocated to the mountains when I was just hitting my teenage years. My adolescence was filled with all the perils, life lessons, and memories that have given that stage of life such a wonderful stigma. At the age of twenty, I married the girl next door (literally) and began my adult life. Shortly after getting married, we decided to take a road trip. We departed on a month and a half trip of the southern U.S. with the first stop being that of my home town. We arrived in the night, tired and road-worn from the nice twelve hour day on the country’s interstates. With sleep the only thing on our minds, we settled in at my family’s home. As I laid down, I was struck with excitement for what the next morning would...

...Kelly Sage Professor McMahon Reflective Paper #3 7 November 2014 When I first found out we were going to be doing a Bully Campaign I just kind of brushed the whole thing off and said I would wing it. I honestly didn’t think that I’d put much thought into it. Turns out, I have really opened my eyes and seen this horrible thing that is occurring and I am determined to make a difference in someone’s life. I’ve said on previous reflective papers, but I’ll continue to say it, I honestly had no clue that this was such a huge and horrible problem. It’s not just happening in particular states or towns, it’s everywhere and it is completely out of control. My voice can help one person but it’s going to take a lot of people to make a stand for bullying to stop. The most trouble for me was just grasping how big of an issue bulling really is. Trying to put all of my thoughts together and figure out where I was to make it clear to others that we can help and how. Also, working as a group it gets difficult getting others together and all agreeing on what we see, think, and want to happen. We all have different views and they all are extremely important. We just had to get the idea and point to flow and make sense that it will catch others eyes. It took a while for us all to stop rambling and actually get to an agreeing point and we think that this will actually make a difference in someone’s life. That’s our main goal, saving one life rather than none. As I said, we had so many...

...Melissa Crum Theo 104-B11 October 16, 2015 Reflective Essay Over the past eight weeks I think that my view of theology has changed for the better. I think my view and understanding has deepened as well. I have belonged to the same church for the past five years and have a wonderful preacher but I did not always understand the concepts that he would talk about. After taking this course I now understand what he is teaching and the message that he is trying to bring. I am no longer just a member of the congregation but I feel I am really receiving the message the way that God intended for it to be taken. God designed his word to be a building block for our lives but if the true meaning never reaches us what good is it going to do us. The principles that I’ve studied through this course has shown me how to know for sure that God is who he says he is. He sent the message through the prophets so that everyone could know of him and know how to live to show others the love that Jesus has for them. With me working in an elementary school I try every day to show the love of Jesus to the people that I come into contact with. I come into contact with teachers and students on a daily basis and want to always know that when they leave me that they know that I’m a Christian and that they don’t have any question about my integrity. A lot of students may not have a home life that reflects Christ so I feel......

... Writing 101: My Trials and Tribulations Writing 101 As my first English college course nears its end, I can’t help but be proud of the minor yet significant improvements I have made throughout the last eight weeks. I enrolled in WRTG 101S to meet my general education requirements, but also to refresh my reading and writing skills, as it provides the foundation for most other college courses. When I began WRTG 101S, I was uneasy with the quality of my research, formatting, and writing; now I am confident in my ability to produce well-written literature. Over the past eight weeks, I have learned much about the writing process and the importance of prewriting, writing, and revising to ensure a quality end product. Since being introduced to college writing and the writing process during a conference assignment in week one, I have applied these skills to all of my writing projects, which have yielded successful results. These steps allow me to progress through any writing assignment in an organized and efficient manner. This process was especially helpful in the cause and effect essay. This was the first essay I had completed in 10 years, since graduating high school. I was very anxious and nervous about the assignment since I had not written academic pieces in quite some time. Honestly, I still become anxious when approached with any type of writing assignment. This is due to my desire to excel in all that I encounter. I now, however, feel more at ease in knowing that I have...

...Reflective Essay During semester one, I found university very difficult as I am currently having a lot of family problems, consequently I have had to balance university life with a part time job and regular tips home, (which is down south). I am very disappointed with my grades for semester one, as I am hoping to graduate with a 2.1 next year. Having failed this module, I have assessed my current situation and have come up with some solutions to ensure it does not happen again. Firstly, my attendance for the module was not of a satisfactory level, having had to go home frequently during term time I missed the ‘short talk’ and grading on participation. In order to amend this, I will only be going home out of term time, unless exceptional circumstances arise. During future seminars I hope to get involved in class discussions, as I feel this will further develop my knowledge and understanding and help me achieve high grades in coursework and exams. In regards to my part time job, working at a busy city centre bar I often do not get in from work till the early hours of the next day, and so I have cut down my hours to just two weekend nights. I feel that by doing so It will enable me to study during the week, and take the time I need to do further reading around the subjects and get a head on any coursework. To help me further, I have invested in a diary and also devised a timetable, this consists of each module I am studying for the semester, reading that needs to be...
