Final: Reflective Paper Delivering an effective oral presentation is not very difficult. Just be sure to follow a few guidelines and stipulations. Before, I had no idea how to create an effective presentation. I knew nothing about the organization, knowing not to leave slides up for too long, or even evaluating and critiquing videos. Now, after this class, I know how to prepare and present an effective oral presentation. A lot of thought and preparation goes into creating a good oral presentation. A presenter has to plan for his or her audience. You must make your information interesting and easy to follow. For example, if you are presenting to a younger audience or elderly audience, be sure to simplify the information in terms they would understand. If relevant, start your presentation out with a story! It captures the audience’s attention from the start. The introduction and conclusion are the most important parts of your presentation. The introduction introduces the presentation and lets the audience know what you are going to discuss. The conclusion is the segment the audience will remember most. As a presenter, it is your last chance to make an impression, reinforce your argument, and repeat the main points. In the body of the presentation you need to hold the audience’s attention. To do so, use graphs, charts, or pictures. Even though these are only a few techniques to help create an effective presentation, they are a great start in preparing and organizing your presentation!
Throughout this class, I have learned various techniques and strategies that have helped me in creating and delivering a good oral presentation. I learned that if you are able to choose your topic, choose a topic that you are familiar with. Also, choose a topic that is relevant, and not something silly. If you choose a topic that you are familiar with, it is easier to talk about and you feel more comfortable. I also learned that eye contact is very important. It shows that you are confident in what you are saying. From the start, I have had trouble using my hands during the presentations. By watching the videos and critiquing myself, I now know how important it is to use your hands during a presentation. By using your hands, you are engaging with the audience. Also, you look more natural when you use your hands during a presentation. I have also learned how to correctly critique a video. Before, I would not have looked at the organization or the visual aids of the presentation. Now, I look at whether or not the picture is left up too long, if the lighting or sound is bad, and various other things. Also, when critiquing a video, be sure to do it in a nice way. For example, “The organization was great! Next time, try and use more eye contact, it helps you connect with your audience!” Everything I learned from this class did and will continue to help me create effective oral presentations. This class not only helped me now, but also will help me in the future. Whether I am speaking to a class or in front of a camera, I will remember techniques and strategies to help me create a good oral presentation. Before this class, I was not aware of all the preparation that goes into a presentation. Now, I know how to create a good presentation using various strategies and techniques. Overall, I really enjoyed this class and everything it had to offer. I look forward to creating more effective oral presentations in the future!

...Reflective Paper: Diversity, What Does It Mean To You? Name HRM582 - Managing Global Diversity Professor J. Huddleston July 13, 2014 Reflective Paper: Diversity, What Does It Mean To You? Growing up in Louisiana, Georgia, and California, I was afforded the opportunity to play and work with different groups. It was me and the black kids, or me and the white kids, or me and the (insert race) kids. Rarely was it a mixture. There were always cliques. No one seemed to notice, or no one cared, because that’s how it had always been. I noticed. I didn’t know what to do about it or even if I could anything. What I did know, even a young age was race, color, sex, religion, height, weight, eye color, or anything that made someone different than me, intrigued me. I was the social butterfly. This is just who I was and still am today. I knew what diverse, and by extension, diversity meant, but I never applied it in a social context. When I joined the military, I quickly noticed in basic training, through all the yelling, and hurrying to get to the next location to sit and wait until we were told to hurry someplace else, we were all different yet we were working as a team to achieve a common goal....graduate basic training and begin our military careers. We hailed from different parts of the country, even different parts of the world. North, south, east, west, mid-west, “country”, southern, Asia, and Middle East. In spite of our inherent differences, we came together...

...Self-Reflective Paper This paper will reflect my performance from taking certain test from the open learn-brain stretcher testing site. Based on the scores of the memory test I think that scored good on all aspects of the test. The test is broken into section: Words, Observation, Objects, and Visual and Auditory. Word section was very funny because I was trying to just look at the word and memorize the word from memory instead of finding a pattern or something in common with each word that would have help me memorize it and score better on the test. Observation section showed me that I observe words very well and I am able to group the words in smaller and similar category to help me remember what I say in the list. My long term memory is terrible because I had just looked at the words but forgot that quickly. I had to take the test more than one time. That is not good at all. Object section requires you to see pictures of different objects in a 2 minute time frame. The test requires you to remember and name the objects that you had just seen. I scored very well with this test. I was able to list all but two of the objects. I was able to group the objects together into smaller groups and put into groups of classification. Visual & Auditory section tested you on your observation of certain things and how you were able to recall it. Based on the scores of my memory test I could improve in the area of public places and being aware of my surroundings. Based on...

Many homeowners lost their home and investments. amiliarity ARMs (Pritchard) let’s review the Perception, Attribution, and Learning (Schermerhorn, 2012 p. 77) as it pertains to the Home Mortgage Crisis: When the Housing Crisis began, many people opined as to what caused the calamity; whom is to blamed? What reinforcements sustained this behavior (95)? How to discourage this behavior in the future? Individuals with good credit and current mortgages “Perceivers” (77) , blamed the crisis on individuals “Perceived”(77) to be lacking the financial fortitude to keep their mortgage current. The Perceivers believed that they were financially astute and possessed the character traits required to manage their personal finances. They were not empathetic to the plight of millions of homeowners, who have lost, or were losing their primary dwelling through foreclosure. Their prevailing, stereotypic perception of the borrowers, were that their character was flawed, and unethical behavior should not positively reinforced. ...Reflective Paper 1 3 Natural law, a concept that has run through human affairs for more than 20 centuries, focuses on perhaps the earliest understanding of crime. It refers to a body of principles and rules imposed upon individuals by some power higher than man-made law and therefore considered to be uniquely fitting for and binding (Inciardi. Criminal Justice. 2010) and of course we know that the earliest understanding of crime generates from whatever our higher power is and for Christians that is God and the Bible. Natural laws could and in certain cases play a major part as a determinant of what is just or moral regarding man-made laws. Some natural laws are simply created and inspired by God as standards for Christians to live by. Take for instance the Ten Commandments. There are some commandments that even man-mad laws mimic, such as thou shall not kill, steal or bear false witness against your neighbor. If you commit murder or steal there are consequences. If you file a false police report or are untruthful when testifying in court there are consequences. There are some other commandments that may not have anything at all to do with natural law, however. Such as not having any other god before God and not having idols. These commandments are considered illegal or a man-made law, but they are wrong in the eyes of God. There are some man-made laws that we do not necessarily see listed in the Bible or as a natural law. Take for example, speeding. It is indeed a man-made...

...Reflective Paper Marcy L. Ortiz BSHS/345 July 23, 2014 Ms. Tucker The identification of the complex factors involved in overcoming generational poverty can be difficult because each case has its own special needs. While the challenges the aged face when there is lack of access to employment, women face dilemmas that keep them from obtaining proper work to take care of their families. The perception of these issues must be changed to one of understanding and change. Our world deserves a chance to move in a positive direction, and in order to do that we must begin with ourselves. Only then can we provide proper help to those in need and in unfortunate circumstances. Generational poverty is when a family has at the most two generations that have been produced in poverty (Robyn E. Blummer, 2013). Adults and children that are raised in this type of poverty have a mindset of mere survival. There are many challenges that occur in the life of an individual who is dealing with poverty. Emotionally, a child or adult may feel that he or she may never amount to anything that life can only be living to the minimal. Societal challenges, a child may be discriminated against at school for not having all the supplies he or she may need, therefore being called names, or being judged by teachers. Adults and children who live in poverty deal with stressors such as where the next meal is going to come from or how a bill is going to be paid. Adults and children who live...

Human resources are the most valuable element within any organization. ...20 Self-Reflection As they are intervening in complex human systems, capacity-development practitioners need to be flexible, adaptable and willing to learn from what they do. An important source of learning in real time is the processes and results of monitoring and evaluation (M&E). Bruce Britton explains M&E activities as they are commonly pursued and explores creative ways in which practitioners can use them for personal learning and selfreflection. He also provides suggestions on how this can be done under non-conducive organizational conditions. Monitoring and Evaluation for Personal Learning Bruce Britton By three methods we may learn wisdom: first, by reflection, which is noblest; second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest. (Confucius) Introduction Capacity development practitioners collaborate in efforts to improve the capabilities of complex human systems that operate and connect at different levels. First and foremost, capacity development is a process based on the assumption that better understanding and knowledge will bring about change. Also, the planning for capacity development interventions typically rely on variations of the Logical Framework Approach (LFA), which encourage careful thinking about expected outcomes and impacts. By its very nature LFA assumes that intended results of an initiative can be established in advance because the path that a capacity development process will take can be adequately...

Reflective Paper

...A reflective essay is a piece of writing that basically involves your views and feelings about a particular subject. The goal of a reflective essay is to not only discuss what you learned, but to convey the personal experiences and findings that resulted. Writing a reflective essay is your chance to reveal and talk about your personal insight about a topic. Reflective essays are used as a self-assessment measure of sorts; they allow you to address your experiences and what you've gained. The reflective essay consists of your individual views on the matter and an explanation of your stance. The goal of this essay is to successfully relay your own beliefs, attitudes and observations. In some reflective essays, you'll be required to support your conclusions by citing materials such as books, journals, articles and other resources. A reflective essay should reflect your own thoughts on the subject matter, not those of others. The poem by Langston Hughes, “Theme for English B”, brought back memories of myself growing up during the times where it was truly a white only and black only world. It was not college that I had to endure the color barriers but it was going to elementary through high school. I went to an all black school until I entered high school. The plot seems to take on a very structured, by providing detailed background information. The plot is clearly connected to the setting as Hughes states “I am twenty-two, colored, born in Winston-Salem. I went to school there...
