Interpersonal Skills:
Coach Boone walks to Coach Yoast’s house to talk things over. Coach Boone starts talking about how he was qualified to be the school’s football coach. Coach Yoast agrees, but is worried about what will happen to the previous football players. Coach Boone says that he will let all of the players play, not mattering on the color but on their ability to play, as a show of respect, he then offers Coach Yoast an assistant coordinator coaching position to him.

Persistence:
Coach Yoast and some other football players walk to his office to find Coach Boone standing there. He starts explaining how he is the new football coach and why he was there because that was the time that was arranged for him to meet Coach Yoast. Coach Yoast talks about how the school board hired Coach Boone and not him. Coach Boone says that he did not ask to be assigned in that position and how they were both in a situation they did not want to be in.

Optimism:
In one of the games, Petey injures his wrist. Coach Boone tells Sunshine how Petey can’t continue playing the game. Sunshine tells him how he can make it and Coach Boone believes him and tells him a story, about how he lost his parents when he was 15 years old and though he was the youngest child, his 12 brothers and sisters looked up to him. He continues by saying how the team needs Sunshine to take the lead.

Self-Awareness:
During lunch, instead of eating with the white people, Louie sits with the black people. Julius notices and asks him why he was eating lunch with them and not with his people. Louie starts saying how he doesn’t have any people and is with everybody.

Self-Control:
After Coach Boone says that every person has to share a room with a different race, Julius and Gary had to share a room together. Julius hangs up a poster which Gary doesn’t like and he tells Julius to take it down. Julius tells Gary to close his eyes for 2 weeks and says to him to look at his wall and Julius will look at his wall. Gary gets mad and says that he can look wherever he wants to and he doesn’t want to see that. Julius tells him that he isn’t going to take it down. They start fighting; meanwhile Alan comes in and tells everyone that there is a fight going on. Everyone starts coming in and starts fighting with a different race. Coach Boone finds out and starts shouting at everyone. He starts saying how anger and aggression are good but football is about controlling those.
Empathy:
Coach Boone wakes everybody up at 3AM tell them how everyone was going to take a run in the woods. He says if someone loses they’re way; don’t bother coming back to camp. They start running until they reach a graveyard. Coach Boone asks everybody if anyone knew what this place was and tells them that it was where the Battle of Gettysburg was fought. Coach Boone continues talking about how 50,000 men died fighting the same fight that they still fought over amongst themselves. Coach Boone says how hatred destroyed their family, and to take a lesson from the dead. He continues saying how if they don’t come together, they too will be destroyed.
Social Skills:
Coach Boone tells all the football players how they were going to play all night till they get it right. During one of their practices, Gary and Julius starting agreeing with each other and complimenting each other, this led to the other players to start cooperating with the rest of the team.

Self-Motivation:
During the half time of the State Championship game, Coach Boone tells everyone how that this is their time and they were going to make some changes on the defense. Coach Boone says how he doesn’t want the other team’s receiver to get to the other line.
