Before talking about your particular company, you need to provide a literature review (don’t use as your subheading), based on the main strategic issues which you have identified for the case in your introduction.

What is a literature review? At this stage you are talking in general terms about what has been written about these issues - do not give details about your particular company at this stage. You are giving a background of the literature surrounding this subject.

The reason why you create your own subheadings is that only you will know what strategic issues are relevant and how best to arrange these under subheadings of your choice.

Keep referring to the main strategic issues already identified. Link your ideas and analysis about the company to your readings (in literature review section). In other words, you need to combine your ideas and analysis with evidence from what you have read (and reference these!).

(don’t talk about suggested actions which should be taken until the ‘Recommendations’ section) • This section should draw together and summarise the main findings of the report • What are the implications of these findings? • Have the objectives of the report been fulfilled? • Were the specified sources of information used? How useful were they (eg were websites more useful as they were more up to date?) • DO NOT introduce any new information at this stage! Any extra information should go into the main body of the report and have been covered also by the Literature Review

Recommendations

(based on your conclusions, recommendations are more action-focused)

• Strategic evaluation and recommendations • Again - no new information here! • Are the recommendations realistic? • Are the recommendations well supported (use evidence from case as well as literature) • Why were other possible solutions not recommended? • How should the recommendations (ie for action) be carried out?

The language of reports

Do not refer to ‘I’ or ‘we’.

Some options:
“this report sets out to...”, “this report examines and evaluates”, “it is recommended that”, “this report recommends that”, “two areas of improvement were identified: firstly....”
