Report on Google Glass limitations

Introduction
Our latest product Google Glass has absolved the beta phase. As a result of that we got a lot of feedback, which will help us to improve our product. The task of our team is to forecast the Google Glass’ potential for longevity. In order to that it was my job to analyze the limitations by itself and even to work the social hurdles out. Over the last weeks we gathered lots of ideas for improvements from our 10.000 “Explorers”.

Findings
To start with the technological impression, there is to say that the technological level is very low. Countless flaws led to nine updates since the release of the beta version, which means much effort for our customers to keep at the best available technology.
Another point is that the software seems to be quite poorly sophisticated. It is neither possible to edit photos nor to upload them to Instagram. The directory includes only 10 contacts while it has very weak capabilities anyway. Besides that there are struggles with the voice control while talking in loud areas what makes our Google Glass useless in such a situation.
Furthermore many consumers have complained about the weak battery, which only runs about 2 hours or 45 minutes of recording. Consequently our product is not made for workaday life.
In comparison to conventional glasses our product does not have hinges at the earpieces. Therefore it does not fit into a pocket what makes it quite bulky and difficult to handle.
According to most reviews we got back, Google Glass creates a socially awkward atmosphere. People around cannot see if they are recorded at a moment or not. That makes them feel very uncomfortable, influences their behavior and violates privacy.
Knowing that the “Explorers” felt uncomfortable as well, because somehow they had power over human’s behavior.
Due to the fact that nobody knows if he is filmed or not, theatres, casinos and even some bars have banned Google Glass.

Conclusion and Recommendation
Evaluated from the present day Google Glass would not be able to keep up with the market in long term. One reason for that is the high price. Paying 1500$ for a poorly conceived gadget is too much, especially when it has no new properties. So it is unavoidable to lower the price. A price of 400$ would be fair, only judged on the products characteristics.
Referring to the software we definitely have to fix these flaws. A memory card could be a solution and would support the fundamental requirements – the record function.
To counteract the uselessness in loud areas, we should integrate kind of a visual keyboard into the glass.
To guarantee an intensive use, a better battery is unavoidable as well. Customers should be able to use at least it half a day.
Our product is quite bulky. For that reason we should increase the comfort. I would suggest that we produce Google Glass with hinges at the earpieces, so consumers can fold it and put it into a little case or their pocket. It costs only a few cents and would make a big difference.
A very important aspect is the privacy. If we are not able to change the way people react to our product, we won’t be able to achieve big sales. Integrating a little flashlight at the case could probably communicate the “on-mode” and another one the record function.
In this way nobody would have to be afraid of being filmed unknowingly.
Moreover we should offer Google Glass with more basics like a music player or a phoning function to attract more customers.
In my opinion we should wait with the final release to invest more time into the product.
In addition to that we should carefully manage the expectations for Google Glass. The market needs to know that the first edition won’t be polished as an Iphone yet.
Technical improvements combined with lower expectations could lead to exceeded expectations, which would have higher sales and a better image as a result.

Since our task was to provide advising to the average consumer on both advantages and problems concerning Google’s wearable, our goal was to exterminate all personal bias and provide a report that, while providing informed advice, leaves the consumer armed with the information he/she needs to make an informed and personal purchasing decision. Upon gathering our research, we learned a lot about how committed both Google and other entities are to pushing Project Glass into the consumer electronics arena, and came up with the general conclusion that if a consumer is interested in this bleeding-edge technology, it would probably suit him/her best to wait until the consumer version of this product is announced, with the added features and lower price tag Google has promised en towe. ...

Powerpoint

...1.With Google Glasses, the technology disappears from in front of you and you get data and applications in the context of what you’re doing or what you’re looking at. Want to know the weather right now? You won’t have to find the weather app and click on it to get a report. Weather apps for Google Glass will know when you’re looking up at the clouds and provide you with an instant weather report. If you’re unsure of what’s at a particular street address, look at the premises and Google Glass will tell you who’s inside, and possibly even show you the indoor plans along with a 360° panorama view if it’s a business. 2. Google Glass introduces absolutely new way of computing, with a simple, voice-driven user interface that makes a number of tasks much more intuitive. There are some examples of these: 3. To start using Google Glass, you tap the frame of the glasses and you’re taken to the home screen. You don’t see a bunch of icons like on smartphone home screen, just a simple real-life scene you’re looking at. To issue a command, you tap the frame and say “OK Glass”. 4. After you issue the order “OK Glass”, you can instruct the glasses to do something specific by saying something like “take a picture”. That’s it. There’s no fumbling around looking for the camera icon. 5. Same goes with video. With Google Glass, you can record what you see without moving a finger. 6. Now this is what calls serious sharing — actually sharing what you see with your friends . 7. Lost...

Google Technologies

...Google Technologies Glass Google Glass is an electronic eye wear device that essentially is the ability to access Google and updates from your smartphone device through the computerized frames. While currently still in the stages of development and beta testing, Google Glass has already started making an impact on the development of new technologies and the way in which we are able to see things through another person’s eyes. When linked with a persons smartphone device, Glass enables one to send and receive text messages displaying the message in a small visual to the user; Glass also provides the sync ability to make calls, take photos, record videos, and provide navigation. As Glass is still within it’s beta testing and development stages the applications associated and current features are limited, but the possibilities for this device seem to be the main focus of Google and it’s developers before introducing Glass to the public consumer. Currently Glass has been making headlines, as Google reaches out to promote this new technology providing testers to Police Officers in New York, and to NBA teams, the purpose to help provide a wider means for the technology in development. (Stein, 2014) When considering Glass, and the association of the Police or Emergency response teams one can consider the positive impacts Glass can provide such as development of applications compatible with the device to pull up a persons driver’s information, vehicle reports, background information...

Even though people are just seeing the problems with privacy, it was there way before the glasses were even made. First the reader should know what the Glass looks like. According to Google, they have “adjustable nose pads and a frame that allows a one-size-fits-all offering and two extra nose pads are included. The display is said to have the appearance of a 25-inch HD screen viewed from eight feet away. As expected, image capture is a key feature, with 5MP stills and 720p video supported. Also integrated is 16GB of total flash memory, of which 12 GB is usable and synchronised with Google-supplied cloud storage.... The battery allows one day of typical use, but is reduced by power-hungry operations such as video capture.(Google)” If you wear regular prescription glasses, "‘The Glass design is modular, so you will be able to add frames and lenses that match your prescription,’ the Glass team said in a Google+ post. ‘We understand how important this is and we've been working hard on it.’(Albanesius)” Google+ is the social network work site within Google. “Google glasses that overlay the Internet on daily lives should hit the market in a little more than a year -- technology...

Health Information Devices: Impact on Healthcare Delivery in the United States

...knowledge that "the delivery of health care is primarily driven by the medical model, which emphasizes illness rather than wellness” (Shi & Singh, 2015, p. 73). Faced with issues like chronic illnesses, fragmentation, and population of baby boomers that affect the challenges of cost, access, and quality of care; it can be argued that the use of health information devices has positive impact on the delivery of healthcare. Since “the future of healthcare technology is now” (Glandon, Smaltz, & Slovensky, 2014, p. 27), developments in the production of healthcare information devices have been on the increase, popular, and widely used by patients and providers. Some of these devices, which include smart phones, computers, smart glasses like Google glasses, activities trackers, and wearable devices, have impacted and transformed the delivery of healthcare in ways that include cost of healthcare, access to healthcare, and quality of the care delivered. Introduction It is a common knowledge that developments in technology is continually changing, is responsible for globalization, helps with effective evaluation of business and decision-making, and enables the growth of information technology. Similarly, the areas of information technology and healthcare delivery are also presently active, developing, and constantly changing. Technology and Social Change in Healthcare

...Technology and Social Change in Healthcare Today there are many technologies that have provided change in our social environments. For example, we have access to laptop/computers, the Internet, cell phones, and android pads. This is beneficial because we can use the Internet to obtain information almost instantly to assist in research and education as well as staying in communication with friends and family. I believe that every household should have access to these technologies but due to socioeconomic conditions that is not possible. I feel that the technology today has evolved from landline telephones and going to the library to being able to make calls anytime from anywhere and find information at the touch of our fingertips. The gap between social economic backgrounds needs to be closed so that everyone has the access to all technology. Influence of Technology on Social Change The Business Dictionary defines technology as “the purposeful application of information in the design, production, and utilization of goods and services, and in the organization of human activities.” In addition, they further breakdown the definition of technology into five categories “Tangible, Intangible, High, Intermediate, and Low.” Our life modes have been greatly changed over the years. A few examples include but not limited to education, government, healthcare and new communication inventions. The Encyclopedia Britannica defines Social Change “in sociology, the alteration of mechanisms...

Wearable Computing: the Next Big Thing in Smart Technology?

...Wearable Computing: The Next Big Thing in Smart Technology? Prepared for Edward Moss, Instructor ENGW 3304 Northeastern University Prepared by Varun Kukreja Northeastern University February 13, 2014 INTRODUCTION Ever since the development and introduction of wearable devices to consumers, much debate has evolved around its use compared to smartphones and other smart technology products. Dave Evans (2013) pointed out that while consumers begin to adapt to wearable technology, personal computing is getting even more personal, with electronic products and chipsets being attached to “clothing, jewelry, shoes, glasses, watches, and even on your skin” (Stedmon et al., 1999). Developments in wearable technology have indeed suggested that it is possible to fully integrate both physical and functional aspects of smart devices, thereby increasing their operational efficiency. These findings suggest that wearable technology has the potential to be far better than the smartphone...

Contents: 1.0: Internal Factors 2.0: External Factors 1.0: Internal Factors- Internal planning factors are those that relate to what is already happening inside of the business. 1.1: Organisational Needs: As an organisation Google needs to be consistently changing and adapting to stay one step ahead of its competitors. This is because if they didn’t thrive to achieve their maximum potential then they would end up losing out on the businesses maximum profit. An example of this is that Google biggest competitors is Apple. Apple was expanding its business by investing its time into its app store and improving the way in which Apple users can interact with their phones. Google realised that they needed to step up their game and to stay relevant they ended up buying the Android store, which was Apples biggest competitor in the app market at the time, and rebranded it as the Google Play store. This expansion of the business allowed Google to still stay in fierce competition with Apple. Without an intelligent HR team Google may of never bought Android as the HR team would’ve been the people who first realised that there was a gap for expansion...
