RES 351 Week 3 Stages of the Research Process,
Stages of the Research Process
It is critical to identify the purpose of the business research. According to Cooper & Schindler (2012) whether the researcher is involved in basic or applied research, a thorough understanding of the management question is fundamental to success in the research enterprise. For the purpose of this paper, I have chosen two articles that are different, but crucial in the type of business in which I am involved. Bullying by Ziken (2008) it is the first peer-reviewed article that I have found in the University Library, and the second article is “Qualitative research for international business” by Doz, (2011).
Business Purpose
The first article describes the bullying history of Allan J., a child in “Duquesne Elementary School in Duquesne, Pennsylvania” (Zirkel, 2008). Since the problem lasted several years when he was in grade six “Allen’s mother withdrew him from school halfway through the school year, enrolling him in a cyber charter school. She also filed a civil rights suit against the school officials and the district in federal court, alleging that they had violated her son’s “liberty” of bodily integrity under the 14th Amendment due process clause. The school officials admitted to knowledge of student bullying but argued that they had implemented remedial policies” (Zirkel, 2008) to stop the problem.
“Bullying is the physical and many time psychological intentional and constant mistreatment of a child by one or more children, which treat the child cruelly, in order to subdue and scare them. The continued repetition of teasing or...

Career Research Report

...Preparing For A Career Change Schuylar Robinson, Kerry Wilson, Deborah West, Airyn Vath, Sheila Rone RES/351 January 21, 2012 Richard Dickens Preparing For A Career Change Preparing for a career change can be difficult yet rewarding. A career is the course of a person's life in working to produce an income to make ends meet. A career is also associated with the productive side of life, what a person's goals are and sometimes his or her accomplishments (Cochran. 1994). There are many obstacles that some may consider to be problems when changing careers. Individuals may be looking to change careers from result of too much stress or personality conflicts with their current coworkers or management. Career problems occurs when a current course of action signals a qualitative difference between possible career futures (Cochran). If a person believes to feel threatened by what is happening in the work place and feels that something else should be happening to reach goals or get the job done more efficiently can be considered a problem and the need for a career change. The only way to change one's direction in life is to take that first step into a career change. This means furthering one's education to climb the corporate ladder or accepting a new career that offers more pay, more vacation time, and personal satisfaction of making a difference in the workplace. The purpose of a career change is "to move into a position of greater managerial responsibility and......

A Research Proposal: How to Develop a Business Strategy to Expand a Business in an International Market?‏ Read More: Http: //Www.Ukessays.Com/Essay-Examples/Business-Essay-Examples/Business-Strategy-International-Market.Php#Ixzz2Howzexxn

...1. Introduction The globalization of the economy, internationalization of businesses and emergence of new markets are all key themes in contemporary business. Whereas international business may once have been the province of organisations with sufficient scale and reach, these types of companies – typically multi-national corporations - no longer have a monopoly on this kind of business. Increasing numbers of firms, of varying scale, are confronted with compelling reasons for expanding their activities across multiple national boundaries. In some cases, such motivation includes the knowledge that success in international markets is a pre-requisite for survival; if competitor organisations succeed in international markets, they may achieve the scale and liquidity which affords them sustainable competitive advantage. However, scrutiny of the empirical experience of international expansion suggests that the apparent potential is by no means straightforward to achieve in practice. This raises questions about whether or not it is realistic to envisage a ‘best practice’ in terms of international expansion strategy. Can the latter be conceived of as a specific and transferable management skill, or is it instead reliant upon expertise in a particular sector of business, a market, or a national culture? After all, if proven strategists are found wanting, where can the organisation go in terms of its future practice? Large, successful and sophisticated businesses have often found......

Isolation of Rare Circulating Tumour Cells in Cancer Patients

...complex analytic approaches that generate very low yield and purity9. Here we describe the development of a unique microfluidic platform (the ‘CTC-chip’) capable of efficient and selective separation of viable CTCs from peripheral whole blood samples, mediated by the interaction of target CTCs with antibody (EpCAM)-coated microposts under precisely controlled laminar flow conditions, and without requisite pre-labelling or processing of samples. The CTC-chip successfully identified CTCs in the peripheral blood of patients with metastatic lung, prostate, pancreatic, breast and colon cancer in 115 of 116 (99%) samples, with a range of 5–1,281 CTCs per ml and approximately 50% purity. In addition, CTCs were isolated in 7/7 patients with early-stage prostate cancer. Given the high sensitivity and...

Proceedings of the SIGIR 2010 Workshop on Desktop Search (Understanding, Supporting and Evaluating Personal Data Search). Held in Geneva, Switzerland. July 23, 2010. Preface These proceedings contain details on the invited talks and the papers presented at the SIGIR 2010 Workshop on Desktop Search (Understanding, Supporting, and Evaluating Personal Data Search), Geneva, Switzerland, 23 July, 2010. Despite recent research interest, desktop search is under-explored compared to other search domains such as the web, semi-structured data, or flat text. Even with the availability of several new desktop search tools, users are more successful finding information through browsing their personal collections and subsequently show preference for this approach. Problems with existing desktop search tools include performance issues, an overreliance on good query formulation, and a failure to fit within the user’s work flow or the user’s mental model. As the available storage for desktop collections becomes cheaper and more plentiful and new media types continue to appear, the size and types of items stored in personal collections is growing rapidly. The need for effective......

Early Onset Schizophrenia

...Schizophrenics have been perceived as being crazy, insane, and outcasts in society. People suffering from this disorder lose touch with reality and often experience hallucinations. One very unlooked aspect of this disorder is the children who are diagnosed with the illness. Early onset schizophrenia (EOS) describes children and adolescents identified with having some form of schizophrenia before age 18 (American Psychiatric Association 2000). Although early onset schizophrenia is very rare, it is important to acknowledge the aspects of this disorder within children. Discovering patterns in the development of mental illnesses among children can drastically enhance the understanding and treatment of the illness. Until recently very little research was done involving children and adolescents dealing with schizophrenia (Nillinghouse and Trotman, 2009). There has been an increased understanding of the onset appearance of schizophrenia in recent years. Frequently, the age of onset schizophrenia is between 16 and 35 years. EOS is usually identified during school age years and the rate of the disorder usually escalates during adolescence (Li, Pearrow, & Jimerson, 2010). There are two forms of onset schizophrenia: childhood-onset schizophrenia (COS) is a very rare form of schizophrenia with less than 1% of individuals identified before the age of 13, while adolescence-onset schizophrenia (AOS) is somewhat more common with 18% having been identified before the age of 18 (Frangou,......
