Research Report on Combined Effects of Temperature and Noise on Human Discomfort

Miroslav Knez

RIT Croatia

Hypothesis:
Many times before the participants were tested on their reaction to heat and noise separately and the interaction between these two important factors in our workplaces was never proven. This paper wanted to show that the both factors can be very influential in our everyday life. In another words, the hypothesis of this paper is that initial conditions are important and that people can have a different levels of comfort when the trade-off is experienced.

Participants:
There were 108 people tested in this experiment. All of them were Caucasians, and have given their consent before participating. They was an equal number of males and females (54). Height of males was ranging from 172-182 cm, weight from 63.3 to 77.3kg and the mean age of 23.5 years. Average height of females was 167cm, weight of 56.7kg and age of 22.9 years.

Methods:
First we were divided into nine groups. Each group had six males and six females. Then, I was given an ensemble to wear. This was something I wear ever day at work and consisted of cotton underwear, tee shirt, long sleeve shirt, cotton trousers, socks and summer shoes. Then the experimenters told me to go sit in a climatic chamber alongside eleven other people. I was in a group that started in a room where the conditions were set so that the temperature is at neutral level, but there was a considerable level of noise. The noise sounded like a fan. We were told that fan noise is what most people encounter at their workplaces.

...Introduction… Pg 3 Evaluation of Research as Quantitative… Pg 4 Evaluation of the Methodology… Pg 5 Explanation on how the researcher used this method… Pg 6 Comments on the contribution of the research… Pg 7 Conclusion… Pg 7 References… Pg 8 Introduction “Friction between Public Relations( PR) and advertising( marketing) comes from bad organizational alignment,” says Scott( Anonymous 66:3). This quote shows us there are many discrepancies between both fields. This quantitative study was conducted by Miss Margalit Toledano, from the “Management Communication Department” of The University of Waikato, New Zealand. By using questions compiled in the form of a survey, 39 New Zealand practitioners were tested. The research problem, questioned the influence of inter-profession challenges, by examining the differences between the PR and advertising industries (Toledano 230). This research problem is significant, because the results of the study showed that PR practitioners were not able to take advantage of the technology, such as social media, in an effort to leverage their professional status or improve their position within the company. This problem is made worse, through the reality that both PR and advertising are still looking for ways to benefit from social media, and both industries are still in the infancy stage of using social media. This research is important because “Social media promises...

...Analysis and Implications for Practice of Quantitative Research Report Introduction: It is very essential to avoid miscommunication among the health care providers since it leads to decreased staff and patient satisfaction. In health care now it is a challenge to create an environment in which open and free communication takes place. For this purpose, by using communication tools such as the situation background-assessment-recommendation (SBAR) method, interpersonal messages among the team members are clear even in stressful situations. At Went-Douglass Hospital, the management team decides to create a Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB) to help the nursing staff solve their problems in adapting the changes. The TCAB team consists of 20 nurses, pharmacists, care managers, physicians, clinical coordinators, educators, and supervisors. The main aim was to improve communications and hence improve satisfaction among health care employees and patients. Also, the TCAB planned to find a comfortable environment that best suits the patients, families and the health care providers. They implemented three major factors: moving the change of shift report to the bedside, initiating the safety huddle, and establishing nurse-physician “intentional” rounds at the bedside. The trial took place in a 28 bed medical/surgical unit, with the staff members participating in the trial. The results helped to improve the communication between staff and patient in a medical facility, and created...

...Preparing For A Career Change Schuylar Robinson, Kerry Wilson, Deborah West, Airyn Vath, Sheila Rone RES/351 January 21, 2012 Richard Dickens Preparing For A Career Change Preparing for a career change can be difficult yet rewarding. A career is the course of a person's life in working to produce an income to make ends meet. A career is also associated with the productive side of life, what a person's goals are and sometimes his or her accomplishments (Cochran. 1994). There are many obstacles that some may consider to be problems when changing careers. Individuals may be looking to change careers from result of too much stress or personality conflicts with their current coworkers or management. Career problems occurs when a current course of action signals a qualitative difference between possible career futures (Cochran). If a person believes to feel threatened by what is happening in the work place and feels that something else should be happening to reach goals or get the job done more efficiently can be considered a problem and the need for a career change. The only way to change one's direction in life is to take that first step into a career change. This means furthering one's education to climb the corporate ladder or accepting a new career that offers more pay, more vacation time, and personal satisfaction of making a difference in the workplace. The purpose of a career change is "to move into a position of greater managerial responsibility and organizational...

Study Purpose The purpose of this study is to have nurses identify their perceptions of competencies needed to be an effective charge nurse. Research Question "The research question was: "What do nurses at various levels perceive to be the competencies needed to effectively carry out the role of charge nurse in a military medical center?"(Connelly et al., 2003, p. 299). Proposal to Create a Research Report on Corporate E-Learning

...Proposal to Create a Research Report on Corporate e-Learning INTRODUCTION For good reason, the growth and development of our employees through improved learning opportunities is one of the main values found in PG&E’s mission statement. As a company, we are painstakingly aware that the future success of PG&E depends on our ability to provide our employees with the training and development that is necessary to drive better business outcomes in safety, customer satisfaction, financial performance, and environmental leadership. As corporate resources—time and money—continue to decline, providing the required training has become an increasingly difficult task. Faced with similar time and budget constraints, an increasing number of companies are turning to corporate e-learning as a viable solution. Corporate e-learning offers the promise of a more dynamic and interactive learning experience compared to traditional methods of corporate training at a lower and more cost-effective price (Brack 2). Over the past decade, there has been extensive research conducted in the field of corporate e-learning. This information is abundant, cheap, and readily accessible to those who wish to obtain it. For companies such as PG&E who are considering the adoption of corporate e-learning, whether purchased from an external source or designed and developed in-house, conducting a research literature review is the first step. Research literature discussing how e-learning programs meet or fail the...

...1 Assignment 2 Research Report (40%) Due Friday 15th April 2011 The purpose of this assignment is to introduce you to gathering, analysing and reporting research data. The focus is on examining Piaget’s concepts in a practical way. It links to your achievement of the Unit Outcomes 3 and 4: 3 Collect, analyse and interpret data with respect to the domains of development. 4 Develop academic essay and report writing skills The assignment consists of clear steps which are outlined below: Gathering the data (revisit Chapter 2 for information on ethics, observation and note taking) Collect about 20 small items that can be sorted or categorised in multiple ways e.g. shells, screws / nails, buttons, pictures from a shopping catalogue or magazine etc. Select two people of different ages. A larger discrepancy (a primary school aged child and an adult; or a preschooler and an adolescent for example) will be easier for you but you may need just to work with people you have easy access to. Explain that you need to ask people of different ages to do a short activity for a university assignment. It should take a maximum of about 20 minutes. Gain their consent to participate in your study. Make sure you submit signed consent forms (see link under “Assessments”) from the participants. It is important that you learn normal research protocol, and this demands that, irrespective of whether or not the person is a family member, you would need to have them sign the consent form...
