Researching Human Service Agencies
In the field of social services you try to meet all the people and family’s needs to help them. Create social and physical environments that promote good health for all. Promote quality of life, healthy development, and healthy behaviors across all life stages. Attain high-quality, longer lives free of preventable disease, disability, injury, and premature death.
Achieve health equity, eliminate disparities, and improve the health of all groups. (Healthy People.gov) This is a field that I choose because I would like to give back in the communities. Each year they do a survey on different demographic new illnesses and injuries reported the nature of the disabling condition, and the event and source producing that condition for cases that involve one or more days away from work. Survey estimates of occupational injuries and illnesses are based on a scientifically selected probability sample of establishments, rather than a census of all establishments. Each January, an independent sample is selected for each state and the District of Columbia. Establishments in the sample are instructed to maintain lists of injuries and illnesses and to track days away from work, restricted, or transferred using the OSHA Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses. An occupational injury is any injury that results from a work-related event or from a single instantaneous exposure in the work environment. Another thing they have in common is how to prevent communicable diseases and to help people prepare and understand the importance of certain types of diseases in men, women, children and babies. It’s not only for babies and women, but for everyone that’s unable to afford healthcare. They reach out mostly to the families are individuals with low incomes. The (2013).

Researching Human Services Agencies

...Shakiera Reid-Taylor Professor Milicent Driver HSM/210 February 3, 2014 Checkpoint: Researching Human Service Agencies In the Baltimore City area two of the most popular human service agencies include the Housing Authority of Baltimore City and Department of Social Services. The Housing Authority of Baltimore City focuses on the homeless and low income demographic by providing housing needs to low income families within the inner society to help promote self-sufficiency through providing safe, affordable, and decent housing to its tenants. The Department of Social Services meets various food, income, childcare, and family support needs by serving the elderly, homeless, low income, and disabled demographic. Over time society has influenced both agency’s decisions to meet the needs of the demographic needs by helping to identify what the current socio-economic needs are in each community. The difference I observed in the ways each agencies attempts to meet human needs is that The Department of Social Services offers immediate help, while the Housing Authority does not. Overall each agency is somewhat successful in meeting the needs of its demographic group. Both agencies are federally funded and with the surplus of demand for social service assistance programs offered by each agency are often discontinued or on “freeze’. For example, the Housing Authority has no longer been accepting applications for its housing choice voucher program formerly known as section 8 due...

What or who may have influenced the agency’s decision to meet the needs of this demographic group? Substance Abuse and Behavioral Disorder Counselors: Substance abuse and behavioral disorder counselors advise people who have alcoholism or other types of addiction, eating disorders, or other behavioral problems. They provide treatment and support to help the client recover from addiction or modify problem behaviors.(Bureau.2012) the demographic of this human service is more but not always for some for the more populated areas the metropolitan areas. This field helps people of all ages, with many different types of issues that need to be serviced. Social Workers: There are two main types of social workers: direct-service social workers, who help people, solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives, and clinical social workers, who diagnose and treat mental, behavioral, and emotional issues. (Bureau.2012) this field service a wide array of people and the issue in which they have as well as servicing nationwide. ...National Aeronautics and space administration, shortly called NASA. The NASA is the agency of the United States government that is responsible for the nation's civilian space program and for aeronautics and aerospace research. Since February 2006, NASA's mission statement has been to "pioneer the future in space exploration, scientific discovery and aeronautics research. President Eisenhower established NASA in 1958 with a distinctly civilian (rather than military) orientation encouraging peaceful applications in space science. The National Aeronautics and Space Act was passed on July 29, 1958, replacing its predecessor, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The agency became operational on October 1, 1958. Since that time, most U.S. space exploration efforts have been led by NASA, including the Apollo moon-landing missions, the Skylab space station, and later the Space Shuttle. Currently, NASA is supporting the International Space Station and is overseeing the development of the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and Commercial Crew vehicles. The agency is also responsible for the Launch Services Program (LSP) which provides oversight of launch operations and countdown management for unmanned NASA launches. Most recently, NASA announced a new Space Launch System that it said would take the agency's astronauts farther into space than ever before and provide the cornerstone for future human space exploration efforts by the U.S. NASA science is focused on better understanding...

Check Point

...Check Point: Researching Human Service Agencies Teresa Laing HSM/210 June 7, 2013 Laneisha Searls There are many Human Service agencies that provide assistance to countless of people in need here in Arkansas. These agencies provide assistance in shelter, food, medical and care for the elderly, child welfare and assist many in finding employment. These are only a few of the many ways that Human Service workers help in providing assistance to all people here in Arkansas. While there are many services, I have chosen two that I am personally involved with through volunteer work. * ElderChoices Program: ElderChoices is an Arkansas Medicaid home and community-based waiver program designed for the elderly population. ElderChoices, approved effective August 1, 1991, is designed for persons who due to physical, cognitive or medical reasons, require a level of assistance that would have to be provided in a nursing facility, if it were not for the services offered through this program. The major goal of this program is to provide services that assist eligible persons to remain in their homes or live with family in order to prevent or delay institutionalization (“DHS division Of Aging and Adult Service”, n.d.). * Division of Behavioral Health Services: Children’s Services The Division of Behavioral Health Services (DBHS) ensures mental and behavioral health care is available to children and youth throughout the state. Outpatient mental health services are available through...

Client Paper

...Client Paper Timberly R. Hobson-Carter University of Phoenix Introduction Human services clients face a wide range of problems such as drug and alcohol addiction, domestic abuse, mental and physical issues as well as family issues or dysfunctional. Regardless of the issues or conflicts the client may be experiencing, the human services professional (HSP) must be equip to handle these issues and/or issues by communicating efficiently with the client. From the human service side, problems have two components: a description of a problem/situation, and the course of action to resolve it (Woodside, M. & McClam, T. (2011)). The HSP can help the client in various ways such as gathering information from the client, researching services/agencies, and talking to the client about their feelings (Woodside, M. & McClam, T. (2011)). Background A problem is something existing to the client and causing them trouble, pain, grieve, or discomfort (Woodside, M. & McClam, T. (2011)). Problems have solutions, whether they’re short or long term solutions. If not solutions, they can always be addressed. Before a problem can be solved or address, it has to be identified then the course of action can planned and executed. There are some problems, a client may be experiencing can be solved and addressing while others are long term and need more time to solve and address (Woodside, M. & McClam, T. (2011)). Problems that could be considered long term is drug and alcohol addiction...

Advocacy and Mediation

...University of Phoenix In this paper three websites pertaining to mediation and advocacy for different types of people will be reviewed. All of these websites are great vehicles for researching advocacy and mediation. These websites offer a plethora of information regarding advocacy and mediation. The National Organization of Human Services website, defines the field of Human Services as - "broadly defined, uniquely approaching the objective of meeting human needs through an interdisciplinary knowledge base, focusing on prevention as well as remediation of problems, and maintaining a commitment to improving the overall quality of life of service populations. The Human Services profession is one which promotes improved service delivery systems by addressing not only the quality of direct services, but also by seeking to improve accessibility, accountability, and coordination among professionals and agencies in service delivery” (The National Organization for human service). In America, the National organization of Human Services is considered to be the nation's principal agency for health protection and provision of essential human services to all Americans especially those who are considered to be in the lower level of society. ...Private Funds Danielle Bryant HSM/240 December 11, 2013 Lori Moon Private Funds As I researched different privately funded agency’s I came across The Family Services Association, which is a privately funded agency. Family Service Association of San Antonio has been building strong families since 1903. It is the oldest human service agency in San Antonio dedicated to helping children, seniors, and families in need. I chose this agency because they have so many programs that they offer to their community that address so many different issues and problems. At The Family Services Association, they offer many different programs to the community that address social issues. I chose to write about their Early Childhood Well-Being program. The Early Childhood Well-Being Program was initiated in January 2011. This program is to identify gaps in the areas of medical and mental health services for young children and their families. The program will then collaboratively build strategies to effectively meet the needs of young children and families with the intended outcome of maximizing their healthy development and successful educational achievement, and establishing a healthy foundation for lifetime success. Developing and mentoring infrastructure of professionals and services that are accessible to families that effectively address early childhood development issues. This program also educates trains and mentors early education/health staff and administrators. Health providers to...

...Consumer Habits, Who’s really to Blame? While researching for this paper I ran across a great quote that simplifies the personal responsibility part of the equation. “Personal responsibility is the willingness to both accept the importance of standards that society establishes for individual behavior and to make strenuous personal efforts to live by those standards. But personal responsibility also means that when individuals fail to meet expected standards, they do not look around for some factor outside themselves to blame. The demise of personal responsibility occurs when individuals blame their family, their peers, their economic circumstances, or their society for their own failure to meet standards. The three areas of personal decision making in which the nation’s youth and young adults most need to learn and practice personal responsibility are education, sexual behavior and marriage, and work.” (Haskins) After researching different publications on the web, I’ve come realize that there’s a whole lot more to consumer behavior than I previously thought or even expected. First of all your companies product has to pass regulation boards put in place by our government to make sure that the products that are being sold aren’t harmful to the human being, or planet.
