Personal Responsibility Leads to Success

Personal responsibility is taking accountability for your actions and facing the consequences for those actions. Even though it is not required to succeed in life, personal responsibility is something that one needs to be a truthful and responsible person. “Responsibility is the hallmark of the fully integrated, fully functioning human being” (Tracy, 1). Taking personal responsibility is the difference between adulthood and childhood. This is what ultimately shows maturity. Personal responsibility leads to college success, better employment, and a greater satisfaction with life. If a person takes personal responsibility in college, they will have better success with their higher education goals. A report from the Association of American Colleges and Universities shows how educating responsible learners impacts the society past campus boundaries (Hersh, 6). Personal responsibility directly leads to college success because they will need to show up to class religiously to get good grades. They also need to do their own homework to learn more effectively, to also do better in college. He or she needs to be dedicated enough to study at least two hours per credit hour to ensure their success in college, and all of this takes personal responsibility. Better employment opportunities also come from personal responsibility. Personal responsibility directly leads to success, achievement, motivation, happiness, and self-actualization in the workplace. Personal responsibility in the workforce is based on the principle that employees have high moral values. One should take credit for your their work, not someone else’s hard work and sacrifices. Most important, employees who want better opportunities at work should never fall asleep while at work! If someone wants to have greater satisfaction with their lives, they should have personal responsibility for themselves. According to Duggan, people are responsible for their own health and wellness. If they are sick, they also caused that to happen as well, in some shape or form (18). He or she should know that they have done the best that they could if they are personally responsible for themselves. This also brings about a clear mind and a clear conscious because they know that they have earned everything that they have. What is theirs is rightfully theirs; he or she does not owe anyone anything. This also leads to a greater outlook on life. The most successful people in life commit to taking more personal responsibility for their lives and careers. According to Bilanich, when someone commits to taking personal responsibility for their life and career, they build their self confidence (1). The more responsibility someone takes, the more their self confidence grows. When they commit to taking personal responsibility for their life and career, they act, which is unlike inaction and procrastination which tends to kill it. Inaction and procrastination are like weeds, once started they are hard to stop growing. The more personal responsibility one takes for their life, the more in control of their life they are. This also means that they are freer, especially in their own mind, to make decisions and to do whatever it is that they might want to do. There is a direct relationship between personal responsibility, control, freedom, and happiness. It has been found that the happiest people in the world are those people who feel absolutely terrific about themselves, and this is because they have accepted personal responsibility for every single part of their lives. The act of accepting personal responsibility calms the mind and clears one’s vision. It soothes one’s emotions and enables them to think more positively and constructively. It most often gives a person insight into what they should do to resolve the situation. In conclusion, I think that everyone should have personal responsibility in their lives. I plan to practice personal responsibility in my education by getting my participation points in weekly, making sure all of my homework is turned in on time, and that I participate within my team when we have assignments due. But most important, personal responsibility is a lifelong process that always needs to be in the back of my mind. Everyone should aim to develop a good character. “Character is composed of self-esteem, self-discipline, the ability to delay gratification, and the willingness to accept full responsibility for your life and everything in it” (Tracy, 6).

...Personal Responsibility And College Success “The price of greatness is responsibility” (Winston Churchill). I believe this statement by Winston Churchill adequately describes the art to great success and high quality achievements. Personal responsibility is greatly intertwined with college success. The path to college success starts and ends with holding oneself responsible and accountable. Knowing one's strengths and weakness can assist one in navigating down that path of college success, leading to the achievement of the set out goals. It has been about ten years since I have been in college. Although I could look at this long drought as a disadvantage, after much thoughtfulness I have realized that in these last ten years I have gained much personal experience and a plethora of skills and attitudes that will only aid me in achieving the victory I not only desire but demand of myself. Personal responsibility means that I am solely responsible for establishing my own goals, pinpointing my strengths and weaknesses and holding myself accountable to a set standard and process that will ultimately accomplish those goals. Personal responsibility begins with a set of goals. It is vital that a person has vision and clarity within that vision. ...Personal Responsibility Essay Gen 200 July 28, 2014 Personal Responsibility Essay “Being thoughtful and taking responsibility serves you well, as your accountability is one measure of your success. In our professional and personal lives, most of us typically take responsibility for our actions, words, and attitudes. An occasional “oops” can rapidly put us on a radar that we'd prefer not to be on, irrevocably annoy our student population, or cause a family rift.”  (Zavod, 2014) Personal responsibility is a choice we all have to face when deciding to do the things that will help our future or the lives of those in our care, like my personal responsibility to succeed at college to better support my family. For me, that “oops” could have drastic impacts on our family’s financial well-being. Each person has their own definition of personal responsibility determined by their own background. If one includes financial success in their definition of personal responsibility they need a plan in place for how to achieve financial success. Naturally, there is then a large correlation between personal responsibility, financial success, and the success one has in their education. Each person should have a plan to complete their education and how their own personal responsibility fits in with that goal. Merriam Webster says responsibility is “something that you should do because it is morally right” (Merriam-Webster, 2014). For me going back to school is a personal responsibility that...

...Personal Responsibility Essay Responsibility is the action taken to uphold you on a personal level to let yourself become a better person. Being responsible especially on a personal level is not an easy task as it also deals with ethics, morals and being dependable and the sort in a sense that is a responsibility in its self. My number one responsibility is being responsible for my actions and suffering the consequences if I do something wrong. In the same sense if I do what’s right I will reap the rewards so to say. Morals are normally taught in childhood or in a church setting. Basically it’s like the Bible says, “Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap.” (KJV). In basic terms it is saying if you do good you will get good rewards; If you do bad works you will get bad things in return that’s why being responsible is so important. People need to be able to depend on you but if you’re not a very mature responsible person than whom are people going to trust. “Personal responsibility is the willingness to both accept the importance of standards that society establishes for individual behavior and to make strenuous personal efforts to live by those standards. But personal responsibility also means that when individuals fail to meet expected standards, they do not look around for some factor outside themselves to blame. The demise of personal responsibility occurs when individuals blame their family, their peers, their economic circumstances, or their society for...

...Personal Responsibility Essay Donald Upward GEN/200 January 15, 2014 Dan Barbara, MAEd Personal Responsibility Essay Personal responsibility is the necessity and willingness to complete tasks in a timely manner, and it is essential to achieving success in college. The key to this is exercising careful control over one’s time, finances, and health. There are benefits to engaging in responsible behavior along with negative consequences for engaging in irresponsible behavior. Two areas of improvement as a college student are procrastination avoidance and time management. Staying well ahead of deadlines is one effective strategy to help manage time. According to Hersh and Geary Schneider (2005), “Personal responsibility and social responsibility involve the moral obligation to both self and community, and both forms of responsibility rely upon such virtues as honesty, self-discipline, respect, loyalty, and compassion.” (p. 8) As far as the student experience is concerned, the three main factors of time, finances, and health govern personal responsibility. A deficiency of any of these will have a detrimental effect on the chances of success. If one does not put aside enough time or is constantly procrastinating, they will likely miss deadlines and consistently will turn in work that is lacking in refinement and detail. This can lead to the belief that just scraping by with barely adequate work is acceptable. Similarly, if one does not do what is necessary to...
