According to Abraham Lincoln,“ You can not escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it”. Responsibility is something that most humans today can’t commit to properly. Responsibility is a key term to tie in with gun control because lives are at stake. Gun control has many cause and effects. Gun control would make a major effect in life. There are reasons to have it though. Guns are nothing to mess around with. (King par. 1) ,” A church was shot up by a lunatic.” This means that they allowed a lunatic to own a gun. First off that is an ignorant decision to let a lunatic go running around and undermine a church. This is a cause of why the citizens of America want gun control. The guy that shot up the church could have of also been mental.

Although the company has been around for nearly two hundred years, it has seen its share of challenges from ownership to financial difficulties. Today, the main concern the Smith & Wesson Corporation is facing is of a legal matter as it relates to the gun laws in the United States. Those laws regulate the sale, possession, and use of firearms and ammunition. Presently, Congress is working towards a new gun law despite the fact that statistics have shown a steady decline in our nation's violence within the last decade. So why is Congress contemplating a new law and what impact will it have on the firearms industry? The purpose of this new law is to strengthen penalties against illegal firearms purchases. While it intends to increase safety, the new law would have a financial impact on gun corporations as it might considerably...

...The Gun Debacle, How to Reduce Gun Violence Without Losing Your Rights Gregory Guyer ITT Technical Institute. "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... only disarm those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one." Are Thomas JeffersonThomas JeffersonThomas Jefferson thoughts about gun control during his era who he quoted from an article written by Cesare Bonesana, Marchese Beccaria “essay on crimes and punishments”. (1764) Such remarks from a prominent member of our founding fathers suggest that not only has this debate been going on for a long time but also how important to Americans it is. The second amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America says, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This must have been thought important by our forefathers to have listed this one second, yet we are on the verge of losing yet another one of our rights as Americans in the name of safety. Will we really be safer, or is it simply a play of political control? According to the National Institute of Justice (2013), there are fewer gun related incidents nationwide than there were in the early 1990’s. Not only do we see fewer actual gun related...

Gun Control

...Gun Control No matter where you are in the world you are bombarded with issues that can raise a debate. Anything from same sex marriage to global warming you will hear about it. One of the biggest ongoing debates of our time that does not seem to have a solution to its end is gun control. While most topics have three sides of supporters: those who are for it, those who are against it, and those who are in the middle. Gun control seems to only have two sides. The National Rifle Association who is against gun control has a slogan that states “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people”. This makes a very bold statement that when left alone guns in and of themselves don’t and will not cause any harm. Which if anyone who is not truthfully reading this statement correctly will fail to see what this statement means. Anti gun control supporters believe with proper training and understanding and gun owner responsibility will ease the minds of the American public and will keep the public silent. But when school shootings such as Columbine, public shootings as with the movie theater shooting, and homeland terrorist attacks such as gangs are on the front page of every news paper and all over the media, it makes it hard for a person who doesn’t know much about guns to support the no gun control agenda. The other side of the argument that is for gun control has very good persuasive points on why we need gun control here in America. The claims of no more automatic weapons are sold...

Crime and Guns

...Crime and guns. The two seem to go hand in hand with one another. But are the two really associated? Do guns necessarily lead to crime? And if so do laws placing restrictions on firearm ownership and use stop the crime or protect the citizens? These are the questions many citizens and lawmakers are asking themselves when setting about to create gun control laws. The debate over gun control, however, is nothing new. In 1924, Presidential Candidate, Robert La Follete said, “our choice is not merely to support or oppose gun control but to decide who can own which guns under what conditions.” Clearly this debate still goes on today and is the very reason for the formation of gun control laws.  Guns are extremely powerful weapons. They can cause destruction, harm or even death. They can be used to defend and protect or to threaten and kill. Any way you look at it, guns are powerful tools, not only physically but socially. As college students it is important to stay abreast of the current events and issues circulating our country today, one of which is the controversial issue of gun control. It is extremely important to pay attention to where gun control laws are headed. The directions they take not only affect our nation and society but our future as well as we all move to communities and begin to raise families.  So why is gun control such a hot debate? Perhaps to answer this question it would be important to look at some key statistics concerning handguns in our society. In...

Gun Control

...Chisholm September 14, 2014 Is Gun Control a Valid Argument America's founding fathers crafted the 2nd Amendment to protect its citizens from individual and collective threats both foreign and domestic. The individual citizens right to bear arms has been debated from the early 20th century to the present, both for and against. Although, the Supreme Court has provided a decision in 2008 via the District of Columbia vs. Heller protecting an individual's right to bear arms for traditional lawful purposes. Those in favor of gun control have still been promoting the platform that more stringent federal government legislation will deter crime and provide increased safety to citizens. This paper will show that more stringent gun control legislation and that stripping away portions of the 2nd amendment will not lead to less crime or a safer population; in fact, it will and has resulted in the reciprocal effect. Some proponents of stricter gun legislation claim that if guns are removed from public availability that crime will significantly decrease and make neighborhoods safer for the law-abiding citizens. Let's examine the statement " if guns are removed from public availability that crime will significantly decrease." Based on a report from the Congressional Research Service from 1993 through 2011, "firearm-related murder and non-negligent homicide" rate was 6.6 per 100,000 Americans in 1993. Following the exponential growth in the number of guns, that rate fell to 3.6 per...

Gun Control It Now

...Anonymous Professor Writing 201 6 August 2015 Gun Control It Now “Here’s your gun sir, with a side of no strings attached. Enjoy!” Throughout history, weapons , such as guns , were designed to protect and kill. Whether it was an issue over love, property, or even war, weapons were a necessary means if there was a disagreement. However, times have changed and guns have become dangerous and deadly weapons often used for no purpose at all, other than to harm innocent individuals. Although there are gun restrictions in California; an individual must complete a safety and handling course, be a legal citizen of the United States, and pass a thorough background check; including a fingerprint check. On occasion, it is still possible to obtain an illegal weapon through the black market; therefore, it is easy to buy an unregistered and untraceable gun, which can lead to detrimental effects. The Constitution is the foundation for laws and social norms for the United States. In the second amendment, it states: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Nevertheless, the Constitution can be interpreted in many different ways. Although the Constitution permits the “right to bear Arms” a certain level of control is necessary in order to keep peace and stray away from anarchy and chaos. Unfortunately, it has become very easy for people to obtain weapons of mass destruction and preventative...

Argumentative Essay: The Brady Handgun Violence Protection Act

...Gun violence is not a new issue, nor is gun control a new argument. The “war on guns” dates all the way back to the infancy of the United States of America; the right to bear arms was guaranteed in the Second Amendment to the US Constitution, and has been seen, in the more than two centuries since, as a cornerstone of American liberty. However, in the last few years, repeated mass killings have placed the gun control debate at the eye of the American political storm. In an effort to balance beliefs from both ends of the political spectrum - that gun ownership needs to be protected, while restricted enough to keep guns out of the hands of those who may do deadly harm with them - has come a lack of serious, effective legislation on the matter. The Brady Handgun Violence Protection Act - seen at its enactment as a milestone in the gun control movement - has proven itself ineffective at preventing the type of mass shooting that is, unfortunately, all too common today. These killings, and the high rates of gun violence overall, challenge the core values of social work practice, and the short- and long-term economic impact of this violence is, at best, counter-productive. Based on the research outlined in this document, it is necessary as social workers to create a culture of safety, and as a country to enact sensible gun...

Gun Control

...Gun Control Anthony D. Torres COM 220 August 5th, 2012 Mary Trapasso Does gun control affect the way we live? Every year, in the United States, there are over thirty thousand deaths attributed to gun violence. Gun control and its laws are designed to save lives while ensuring a safer and more civilized society. Although these laws do nothing to prevent crimes; they are in place to ensure that those who violate them are punished and removed from society, thereby preventing future crimes.  Supporters and opponents of gun control agree guns should be kept out of the hands of criminals. The ability for people to use a firearm while defending themselves from harm or possible death at the hands of a criminal is not debatable, it is a Constitutional Right. Gun control laws save lives and continue to have positive effects within our nation. The Second Amendment in the US Constitution grants law abiding citizens the right to own a gun for self-defense. The amendment states that “a well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (Find Law, 2012). Even though it is a right to bear arms, the purchase of firearms has become more difficult and almost impossible for people with criminal backgrounds. Those with felony convictions, fugitives from justice, dishonorably discharged from the military, illegal aliens in the United States, convicted of domestic violence, and people who possess restraining...

Persuasive Essay On Guns

...In today’s United States, one of the most prevalent and heated debates is on guns. There have been several shootings as of late which have drawn an extensive amount of attention to the topic. This has, however, drawn the public eye from other important issues. One of these neglected issues is depicted in the above advertisement. When first viewing it, the eye passes over it, seeing the shape of a gun. After all, the rather dramatic lighting lends to this conclusion. Then one’s eyes are drawn back to the object. The brain finally realizes that it is a set of car keys, not a gun. The message underneath then reads: “Takes one life every 25 seconds,” and underneath it, “Drive safe.” This poster was made by the Frontier Post. This newspaper was founded by Rehmat Shah Afridi in 1985 in the Country of Pakistan (English). This image has been widespread throughout the internet, reaching different social medias and other online news articles. The Frontier Post created the advertisement as a campaign to promote awareness of the risk of driving a car and to plead for drivers to practice safe actions and driving habits. This poster shows great tact with its use of pathos, logos, and ethos by...

Introduction to Air Defence Artillery

...INTRODUCTION TO AIR DEFENCE ARTILLERY (ADA) INTRODUCTION 1. In the modern battlefield, air power is considered as a significant component of warfare. In modern war the first phase of air battle starts with the massive air attack to gain air superiority and the subsequent phase of attack will commence against the manoeuvre forces and their supporting elements. The aim of the second phase of attack would be to shape the battle field by isolating and reducing the ability of manoeuvre forces for ground campaign with minimum casualties. Gulf War is a practical demonstration of this prophecy where defences were ruined, command posts knocked out, communications disrupted, and supplies destroyed by the air action. In the future battlefield, our army is also likely to operate against a foe that will remain superior in terms of technology and resources, mostly in the air power. Therefore, the survival of our army components on the face of adversary’s air superiority has been a serious concern for our ground force commander 2. To protect and preserve sovereignty and integrity of a small state like ours, particularly with limited resources, AD ranks one of the top most priorities. Even if the resources are managed, the inadequacy of country’s depth and the location of enemy air bases will certainly reduce the effectiveness of the Interceptor fighters, as these would get less response time. Therefore, more and more dependency on ADA forces is a viable option because these are comparatively...

Gun Control

...Jonathan Schwartz Prof: F, Gomez Eng 1A 11-15-13 The Power of the Media to Shape Our Perceptions and Understanding of Reality on Gun Control Introduction The wake of gun violence in the United States has seen various proposals on how to handle the gun issue. Occasionally, people have woken up to shocking incidences of gun violence on various quarters. Perhaps the most outrageous incidents are the ones that involved shooting of school going children by a fellow student, seemingly unstable, or at least for that moment. It is important to note that in these incidences, the media coverage of the live happenings have always been extensive, giving the perpetrator of such violence a lot of fame. Various segments of the society have reacted to such incidences with diverging and converging opinions on what should be the best way forward. While the Obama administration has been on the forefront proposing stringent measures for the purposes of reducing or eliminating repeat occurrence, Republicans have a different view on how to address the whole matter. Religious groups and civil society have not spoken in one voice although one may deduce that everyone desires some changes in regards to how the whole issue should be addressed. Some of the emerging schools of thought that have come out have to do with logic behind issuance of guns, the ethical and practical implications of the solutions proposed for adoption as policy. Probably the big challenge is that the incidences...
