An RFID-based remote monitoring system for enterprise internal production management

The world of business has changed in a very small span of time; because of technology it helped business to innovate not only their products but also the way they do business. Managing became more efficient and effective and offers different styles on different kinds of businesses. Companies wants to stay competitive in order to gain competitive advantage over their competitors and one way companies can stay competitive is when they improve their Customer Relationship Management, Supply Chain Management, and Enterprise Resource Planning. These management styles make the business perform in a way that its customers will be satisfied and be wanting for more because of the businesses attributes and what it offers to its customers. This summary will be focusing on the Supply Chain Management and the use of RFID in the business world. Radio Frequency Identification also known as the RFID, is a contact-less scanner, this device is very beneficial for a business to have. RFID consists of a microchip which is embedded to tags that goes to a product, raw materials, parts, components etc., this microchip can be scanned by a RFID scanner, and this scanner will update a local RFID monitor if the product, raw materials, parts will be moving elsewhere or just checking and updating on inventory count. There are two types of RFID microchip, one is called a Passive RFID and these microchips do not have a voltage supply meaning it does not have a battery. In order for these RFID to be scanned, the scanner will need to be close to the tag but no contact is required. The other microchip is called an Active RFID which has a voltage supply and these microchips can be scanned from far away and this is very helpful for warehouse organization. How RFID works:
The business receives a shipment and before it is stored in a warehouse the business will put an RFID tag on it and the tag will contain what it is or characteristics of the product, raw material, parts etc. The tag will be scanned and the information will travel to a local monitoring terminal also to a central monitoring terminal. When product, raw materials, parts etc. moves out for shipment that tag will again be scanned at the exit station or a local exit monitoring station which will update the central monitoring system that the items are going to be shipped out to a retailer, distributor etc. When the products, raw materials, etc. are shipped to the distributor or the retailer it will be scanned by a the receiving RFID local monitor scanner to update that the retailer or the distributor got the products, parts etc. If the distributor decides to use the parts or raw materials and if the retailer decided that it will put the products in the sales floor, the products, parts and raw materials will be scanned on a local monitoring system and it will update that the items transferred from inventory to being used or being offered in the sales floor. When the parts are installed completely to something or the product is sold, it will be updated to the local monitoring system which will also update the central monitoring system that the part, raw material, product, etc. is sold or used up. Over all RFID is beneficial for a business to have as it optimizes the supply chain of the business as the business becomes more organized, the business will be able see real time information of the product like where the product it, if it is still in the warehouse, being delivered or already in the sales floor or being used up to be a part of a much bigger product. RFID will be able to help the business to make better decisions as more accurate forecasting will be provided by the RFID.
