Shane Smith has a “theme song” at the beginning of his documentary with pictures of where he has explored and done some research. HBO’s documentaries are now for being sound in research and credible. In the documentary, there is video of Smith and his crew going to the places being talked about by the scientist like Antarctica. Smith also builds credibility by showing the audience how the data was received. The data was received by a laser that calculates density, temperature, and depth of the ice block being examined.
Al Gore uses scientists’ graphs and statistics to build his credibility while, Smith shows the data gathering method and being with the ice to build his credibility. Not only does Smith uses multiple medias to establish credibility to the audience, his organization and placement of emotional appeals to the audience is more significant than Gore’s and Taylor’s organization and placement of emotional appeals.
The organization, structure, and placement of emotional appeals are important in persuading the audience because if there is no connection they can’t relate to the topic. It will be hard to connect ideas if the audience doesn’t follow or relate to the topic. Gore used the …show more content…
When the other arguers are asked a question, the same answer is given. Smith shows there is no substantial evidence to what the counter arguers are saying. Beginning with the rebuttal shows the audience that there could be truth to what follows. Smith recorded people who visited the melting areas years before and their reaction the melting and how it was in one lifetime that it changed. Taylor did not have any emotional appeals; he had evidence after graph after statistic, which gets overwhelming to the audience. Gore used more emotional appeals, but his examples were sometimes hypothetical, while Smith’s appeal was heartfelt and truly
