The Theme of Ricki-Tikki-Tavi Have you read Ricki-Tikki-Tavi? It is an amazing book with lessons and morals. The theme of Ricki-Tikki-Tavi is courage. You must have courage in this book. Courage doesn’t always come easily, and it comes in all shapes and sizes. In Ricki-Tikki-Tavi you must have courage. The cobras in the story are a lot bigger than Ricki-tikki. This causes him to have great courage to fight them. He knows that a cobras’ bite could kill him. The book says so on page 233, “The victory is only a matter of quickness of eye and quickness of foot—snake’s blow against mongoose’s jump…”. It is the other way around for the snakes. They know that mongooses kill cobras. In the story the bird, Darzee, must have courage when Ricki--tikki tells her to pretend to be injured so he can kill the eggs. In the story, Ricki-tikki has high level of courage. An example is when he killed Nag and Nagaina. Even though he is smaller than them, he still had more courage. Darzee also has great courage, and she is smaller than Nag and Ricki -tikki. Another character that had courage was Nagaina. She might have been the biggest out of the other examples, but it still took some effort to fight. Courage don’t come easily. It isn’t something your born with. Ricki-tikki was born to kill snakes. This doesn’t mean that killing snakes comes easily to him. On page 231, it states that, “He spread out his hood more than ever, and Ricki-tikki saw the spectacle mark on the back of it that looks exactly like the eye part of a hook-and-eye fastening. He was afraid for the minute…”. This states that Ricki-tikki was afraid, though he was born to kill. This proves that courage doesn’t come easily. In conclusion, the theme of Ricki-Tikki-Tavi is courage. It is needed and comes in all different forms. It took courage for Ricki-tikki to fight Nag and was the other way
