Introduction
Since its inception 1991, Riordan Manufacturing has been a leading global plastics manufacturing agent. Cornering the markets of plastic production in the medical, aircraft, beverage and appliance markets, the organization is always seeking innovative ways to improve and expand its operation. It leadership team understands the importance of focusing such energies on both internal and external excellence. In this descriptive framework, I will outline the internal and external mechanisms including marketing and communication systems, which contribute to its ongoing success.
People
Employees. One of Riordan’s most valued assets is its workforce. The company boasts highly diverse, committed, and talented personnel who take pride in their representation of Riordan to clients, stockholders, and the public at large. The staff of over 500 works in an open and supportive work environment where team participation and information adequacy and flow are strongly emphasized. Clients. Riordan serves some of the biggest names in the automotive, aircraft beverage, and appliance manufacturing fields. The organization maintains influential and positive relationships with clients through the implementation of rigorous quality controls, innovative solutions, and responsive business attitude and reasonable pricing” (University of Phoenix, 2013). General Public. Riordan leadership takes environmental health and safety regulation and performance very serious as well as its commitment to optimal corporate citizenship. In practice, critical thinking is a skill that economics students are supposed to master as they complete their studies. However, exactly what critical thinking means is generally not well defined. Building on the literature on critical thinking, the authors examine how electronic discussion can be used effectively to teach this skill. Because of the multiplicity of views expressed, the asynchronous nature of the technology, and the inherent positive spillovers that are created, electronic discussion appears to provide a natural framework for teaching critical thinking.
