Risk Register

...Developing a Risk Register What is a risk register? The risk register lists all the risks identified at the beginning and during the life of a project or undertaking, their grading in likelihood of occurring and seriousness of impact on the project, initial plans for mitigating each high level risk, and subsequence results. It usually includes: • A unique identifier for each risk • A description of each risk and how it will affect the project • An assessment of the likelihood it will occur and the possible seriousness/impact if it does occur (low, medium, high) • A grading of each risk according to a risk assessment table (refer to table 1) • Who is responsible for managing the risk • An outline of proposed mitigation actions (preventative and contingency). The Register should be maintained throughout the project and will change regularly as existing risks are re-graded in the light of the effectiveness of the mitigation strategy, and new risks are identified. In smaller projects the risk register is often used as the risk management plan. Why would you develop a risk register? A risk register is developed to: • Provide a useful tool for managing and reducing the risks identified before and during the project • Document risk reduction and management strategies • Provide those involved with or supporting the activity with a documented framework from which risk status can be reported • Ensure the communication of risk management...

Risk Register

...Contents of a Risk Register A risk register is a table that lists information about each of the risks you identify during the Identify Risks process. It includes a description of each risk, its potential impact, and its root causes. Information gathering sessions provide you with important information about project risks. However, if this information is not properly documented, it won't benefit the current project or serve as a useful resource for subsequent projects. To avoid this, it's important to record the output of the sessions in the risk register. New and more detailed information continues to be added to the risk register as other risk management and general project management processes are conducted. Tracking number, RBS, WBS, and date The first four columns in the register enable you to track each risk and its context throughout the project life cycle: • a tracking number uniquely identifies each recorded risk so it can be easily referenced and monitored. • the RBS column links each risk to its category within the risk breakdown structure. • the WBS column associates each risk with the work components it may affect within the work breakdown structure. • the Date column lists the date at which each risk was identified. Another identifying characteristic that could be included in the risk register is risk status, which could be recorded as pending, current, or ended. Description The Description column contains a clear and concise description of each identified...

Course Registration System

...Registration System the online registrar version 0.1 Specifications Document by Emma Boroson Introduction This Course Registration System is a web-based program aimed to make easier and more convenient the class registration process, a hassle through which students go every semester. As it stands, here at Brown University, in order to officially register for classes, each student must fill out a course registration form manually, bring it to the Registrar’s Office at University Hall, stand in line (often for upwards of twenty to thirty minutes), and finally have the form officially approved and stamped. In order to change anything about one’s current schedule, such as dropping or adding a class, changing grade option, or showing official permission from a professor, the student must go through the same tedious process. Course Registration System (CRS) attempts to alleviate these hassles by providing several services to students through the internet. CRS provides a way to search for classes without having to open a course catalog, a way to “shop” around and view various possible schedules, and finally, officially register for the chosen classes. All this can be done in the privacy of the students’ own rooms and without the stress and time it takes to stand in line in University Hall. On my first day working for Kmart was pretty good, I came right on in and they assigned and girl name Morgan to help me learn how to work the register. She just moved out the way and came to my side to tell me what to do as I was doing a transaction. I am going to be honest I was scared because I didn’t know what I was doing, but then again it was just my first day. After a couple of transactions I started to get the hang of checking people out and it wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be, then again I was just pushing a couple of buttons. During the slow times while we didn’t have any customers I talked with the other cashiers and got to know them. All of them seem to be pretty cool and we all got along very easily. About an hour went by then it was time for me to leave, but another girl came in, her name was Shanikka. I just worked with her then until it was time for me to go home. A few more hours went by, then she left me on the register by myself to go fold clothes. I didn’t want her to leave because I did not want to be alone on the register by myself. She came back and ask me if I had any problems with anything; I didn’t have any problems at all. Honestly, I think I did pretty well for my first day. In conclusion, you shouldn’t be scared for your...
