Swot Analysis: Rizal Law

...A SWOT ANALYSIS ON RIZAL LAW _____________________________ Presented to Dr. Estimada CAS Faculty In partial fulfilment of the Requirement of the Subject Rizal ______________________________ May 2014 Introduction In school, we students study the life and works of our national hero Jose P. Rizal. Our teachers taught us that the Calamba hero was born as the seventh of the children of Doña Teodora and Don Francisco. We can also remember how he pursued his studies until he was able to travel to different places and encountered different challenges. We can’t as well forget his two of his great works Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. And the event on how he died in Luneta is still in our memories as we observe Rizal Day on December 30 yearly. We Filipinos are until today educated about Dr. Rizal. One can possibly wonder why we are studying our national hero as a subject itself. It is simply because Rizal Course is mandated by law under Republic Act 1425 or known as Rizal Law. Many may not be familiar with this law. This act was before Senate Bill No. 438 written and sponsored by former Senator Claro M. Recto and then written by former Senator Jose P. Laurel as R.A. 1425. On the 12th day of June 1956, the bill was enacted. Rizal law is made up of six sections that can be conceptualized in the law’s three major provisions. First, it directs educational agencies to include in the curricula of all schools, colleges and universities, public or private, the study of the...

Rizal Law

...EVOLUTION AND CONTEXT OF THE LAW Republic Act No. 1425, known as the Rizal Law, mandates all educational institutions in the Philippines to offer courses about José Rizal. The full name of the law is An Act to Include in the Curricula of All Public and Private Schools, Colleges and Universities Courses On the Life, Works and Writings of Jose Rizal, Particularly His Novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, Authorizing the Printing and Distribution Thereof, and for Other Purposes. The measure was strongly opposed by the Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines due to the anti-clerical themes in Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo. Senator Claro M. Recto was the main proponent of the Rizal Bill. He sought to sponsor the bill at Congress. However, this was met with stiff opposition from the Catholic Church. During the 1955 Senate election, the church charged Recto with being a communist and an anti-Catholic. After Recto's election, the Church continued to oppose the bill mandating the reading of Rizal's novels Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo, claiming it would violate freedom of conscience and religion. In the campaign to oppose the Rizal bill, the Catholic Church urged its adherents to write to their congressmen and senators showing their opposition to the bill; later, it organized symposiums. In one of these symposiums, Fr. Jesus Cavanna argued that the novels belonged to the past and that teaching them would misrepresent current conditions. Radio commentator...

...CHAPTER 2 LOCATION GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION TOPOGRAPHY HISTORICAL INFLUENCES Calinawan Cave is situated in Barangay Tandang Kutyo of Tanay, Rizal. History tells us that the cave served as hideout by Filipino revolutionaries during Spanish-American war, and a shelter during the Second World War. According to local folklore, it is where the Japanese and American troops settle their disputes. Thus, the Filipino word “Calinawan” comes from the word “Linaw” which means “to settle” or “to clear”. Long before the coming of Spaniards, Tanay was already settled by early Indonesian and Malay voyagers. Artifacts dug up attest to the existence of these early settlements. Not long after the conquest and subjugation of Manila and the surrounding lake areas by Salcedo in 1571, Franciscan missionaries arrived to Christianize the inhabitants of what is now the Morong-Pililla area. From Morongan, the priest administered Tanay and other chapel villages and ranches. In 1773, construction of the now famous Tanay Church was begun and was finished 10 years later. Tanay became a Municipality in 1894 as an effect of the Spanish Maura Law. The first election of Public Office took place in 1895-1898 and 1898-1900 under the Revolutionary Government of Philippines. Tanay members of the Katipunan fought valiantly during the Revolution against Spain. The town was the headquarters of the second military area of the Philippine Revolutionary Government under General Emilio Aguinaldo. And for a brief period...

...the national land use as the highest policy making body. It categorizes uses of land for protection, production, settlement and infrastructure. The NLUMA was opposed by the real estate sector as the act will negatively affect the housing backlog, real estate boom and global competiveness. It is said to be that the bill was too pro-peasant. The conversion of land in the Philippines is more on the growth of real estate and not by the manufacturing sector. It is driven by interest and thirst for money by capitals instead of providing for the need of the masses. The relocation sites for informal settlers are said to be the safety of the IS from the hazard of living near flood prone areas. They were relocated off city such as Bulacan, Rizal and Cavite. I have an experience wherein I interviewed someone that experience the relocation in Montalban. She said that the relation site is more of a danger zone and prone to disasters. It has no basic services and far from work. There is also less opportunity for livelihood. The relocation site in Montalban is prone to flooding as it is a catchment. It is also along the west valley fault. The sites is basically to kill the informal settlers instead of taking care of their needs. ...Rivera, Lieca R. June 6, 2016 Sec 1 Prof. Pelias Reflection: We visited 5 places in our Viaje de Angono. We depart from Santolan Station by roughly 8 am. The travel time to reach our first destination which is the Rizal windmill is 2 hours, as far as I remember. I have not been to Ilocos Norte to witness the famous Bangui Windmills, and it is included my bucket list to have a picture with those. I was really amazed to see the wind farm in Rizal since it seems like I get to see those in Ilocos. I also found out that the same company is operating both the Bangui and Pililla windmills. The Pililla windmills are on top of the hills overlooking the beautiful plains of Tanay Rizal on one side and Laguna on the other side. One will also get a very good view of Laguna de Bay. There are infographic boards there about Pililia and the wind farm. One interesting fact on why Pililia was chosen as the site for these wind turbines –these hills have a natural wind corridor with a monthly average of 36kmh windspeed passing through the hill and heightens during Amihan (north-east winds) season from October to March. We took plenty of photos with the wind mills for remembrance. Also, we bought memorabilia that the residents are selling there. We had our lunch after windmills. Then, we went to Nemiranda Art Haus and Balaw-balaw restaurant. This arthouse is surrounded by mythical relief murals and three dimensional mythological characters such as the “Ang Nuno” , “Habagat” and...

...Punta de Fabian is located on Manila East Road, Barangay Evangelista, Baras, Rizal that is not far away from our house, you can get there maybe 10-15mins if you are living in Baras. Great food, friendly staff, cozy and high tech rooms, complete facilities, and everything you would ask for in your second home is in the famous and first-class, Punta de Fabian. Even though I only got to experience the cheapest but also of high-class room, I enjoyed the glamour of the place and felt like a very important guest.  First to talk about is the food. "Wow!" I think this expression summarizes everything about the food in Punta de Fabian. First we had is their pastry, tea and coffee. The croissant was really delicious, the coffee was great and the cookies were perfect. I even learned from Tracy, one of the hotel's trainees (if I'm not mistaken), that their pastries were being purchased by other hotels and restaurants. We had our sumptuous breakfast. Almost every kind of breakfast food was served in the buffet. I was amazed by the, delicious juices of every kind, and the unfamiliar fruits that taste so good, not to mention the excellent staff that assisted us. My stay at Nielsen's was really awesome and satisfying. Next are the friendly employees. The moment I arrived at the hotel, I was very nervous and insecure of how I look and present myself because of the formal environment of Punta de Fabian. Thanks to one of the staff who opened the car's door and greeted me with a friendly voice...

Early Education in Calamba and Biñan Summary

...the hero's hometown, belonged to the Dominican Order. A few kilometers south of Calamba lies mount Makiling. East of the town is Laguna de Bay. Rizal was a student in the Ateneo de Manila in 1876 when he was 15 years old. When he was fifteen, he wrote the poem entitled In Memory of My Town (Un Recuerdo A Mi Pueblo) Rizal was sickly, underweight, undersized, and frail as a child. He had his own nipa cottage where he played in the day, built by his father. He had an aya (nurse maid) who has a kind old woman and who took care of him and his health. He began birdwatching at the age of 3, observing the culiauan, the maya, the maria capra, the martin, and the pipit. He recited the Angelus prayer daily. Of all his sisters, Jose loved little Concepcion best. She was only a year younger than him, and fell ill and died at the age of 3. The death of his sister was Jose's first grief. Jose and his father went on a pilgrimage to Antipolo on June 6, 1868 so that they could fulfill his mother's vow, which she made when Jose was born. Teodora could not join them on this pilgrimage because she had given birth to Jose's sister Trinidad. After the pilgrimage, Jose went with his father to Manila where they visited his sister Saturnina, who was then a boarding student at La Concordia College in Santa Ana. On "The Story of the Moth," Rizal thought that the creature's death was justified because he believed that to sacrifice one's life for one's ideals is worthwhile. He began sketching...

Jose Rizal

...JOSE RIZAL JOSÉ PROTACIO RIZAL MERCADO Y ALONSO REALONDA (born 19 June 1861, Calamba, Philippines- died 30 December 1896, Manila, Philippines), patriot, physician and man of letters whose life and literary works were an inspiration to the Philippine nationalist movement. Rizal was the son of a prosperous landowner and sugar planter of Chinese-Filipino descent on the island of Luzon. His mother, Teodora Alonso, one of the most highly educated women in the Philippines at that time, exerted a powerful influence on his intellectual development. He was educated at the Ateneo de Manila and the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. In 1882, he went to study medicine and liberal arts at the University of Madrid. A brilliant student, he soon became the leader of the small community of Filipino students in Spain and committed himself to the reform of Spanish rule in his home country, though he never advocated Philippine independence. The chief enemy of reform, in his eyes, was not Spain, which was going through a profound revolution, but the Franciscan, Augustinian and Dominican friars who held the country in political and economic paralysis. Rizal continued his medical studies in Paris and Heidelberg. In 1886, he published his first novel in Spanish, Noli Me Tangere, a passionate exposure of the evils of the friars rule, comparable in its effect to Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin. A sequel,El Filibusterismo, 1891, established his reputation as the leading spokesman of the...
