Beastie Boys have had a huge impact on what our music is today, and have influenced the music of many early hip-hop artists. Even the Canadian Pop band phenomenon, The Barenaked Ladies, have cited the Beastie Boys as a huge inspiration for their work. It's only been a small number of years since the Rock Hall began to acknowledge the vast dominance of hip hop in today's society. The Beastie Boys are much more than a boy band of Jewish rappers. They managed to blend punk and hip hop in an incredibly significant and influential way. These political activists, punk/hip-hop, bad boys have been around for almost three decades. They are notorious for introducing hip-hop to a mass new audience. The Beastie Boy’s debut album, Licensed to Ill (1986), was an ingenious blend of hip-hop and hard rock; it was also hip-hop's first number one album.
