A Memo to Vice president – Zach Evans urging him not to close the fitness centre.

Our management built the fitness centre in the headquarters complex as it considered exercise to be an important benefit to offer its employees. It also touted the fitness centre as a major draw for young employees, especially because of the remote location of the headquarters. Your proposal to close the fitness centre is misplaced as it violates the crux of our company belief and threatens to thwart the moral spirit of our employees.
The fitness centre has benefitted many of our employees and as people see benefits, more will start using it. I use the fitness centre regularly and I feel an increase in my energy and productivity. I recommended the employees in my department to use the centre and the results are there for everyone to see. It has resulted in an increase of 18% in productivity and a decrease of 5% in sick days among our employees compared with the previous eight month period. I conceived and implemented a wellness program in my department, using peer encouragement and team-building concepts to promote the use of fitness centre which resulted in this phenomenal increase of productivity.
Only 35% of our employees use the fitness centre as of now. A majority of these existing users might be healthy people already and might require fewer doctor’s appointment than others. However, it is necessary for them stay healthy as they grow old with our company and our fitness centre would play a major role in facilitating it. Their healthy style of living would also inspire others in the company- whose healthcare bills are already running high -to follow their peers’ health regimen. Once they start using the fitness centre, their health care costs are going to reduce drastically which would result in an increase in their savings.
