Both love and hate emotions has been contributed throughout the play of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet; however, it is clearly shown that throughout the tragedy, it’s emphasised more on hate than love. The play portrays that not a single scene transpires in the play without a level of antagonism performing in the backdrop, constantly posing a caution on the characters and one that is present in the interactions of the characters. But that doesn’t mean love doesn’t play a big role in the novel. Either way, It is the hatred between the two families that makes them have to hide their love it's the hatred that makes Friar Laurence have to devise his crazy plan that leads up to Romeo and Juliet killed. Also, death not only get caught with …show more content…
Sampson doesn't have valid reason to insult the Montagues' servants—he's simply looking to provoke the servants as his masters, the Capulets, are feuding with the Montagues. Even though they are feuding, the person who truly despises the Montague’s is Tybalt. “What, drawn, and talk of peace! I hate the word, As I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee:...” (I,1,84) This signifies that Tybalt is in fact simply existing to create a war and do away with peace. Due to the fierce hostility between both families. Dispite the hatred, Romeo and Juliet still fall in love but the hate of both families are a huge part of their lives so they are forced to hide their love, causing their worlds to be in complete chaos with the fear of war splitting them apart. The whole play is practically leading up to the hate factor because they end up dying because of their beloved families’ hate. Both families are clearly lacking the love, unlike Romeo and Juliet.

Not only did hatred bully Romeo and Juliet to hide their love, it is also because of hatred that Friar Laurence to mix up his crazy plan that ends with Romeo and Juliet in the coffin, lifeless. Friar Laurence was one of the people who supported Romeo and Juliet’s love and would pretty much do anything to not keep them apart. His intentions are good; he wishes to end the feud in Verona. His plan, however, precipitates the tragic end to the play due to hatred …show more content…
The people (other than Romeo and Juliet) who died include Tybalt, Mercutio and Paris. The hate between the families (as you can see, the main cause for the hate is them) and that led to the hatred between Mercutio and Tybalt. Mercutio, being Romeo’s best friend, defends him and fights with Tybalt and gets defeated right in front of Romeo. The sweet, loving Romeo is then filled with darkness, revenge and no love. He is forced by the circumstances to do one thing and that leads up to Tybalt’s death, mourning Mercutio in the process. This causes Romeo’s banishment by the Prince

Romeo and Juliet

...What would you do for love? Would you sacrifice your life for the people you love? “Romeo and Juliet” is a thrilling play that demonstrates both love and hate. Love and hate both come at a cost, whether you lose something you love or something happens that you hate. As Mohandas Gandhi said “Hatred always kills, love never dies.” The play Romeo and Juliet demonstrates and expresses 3 main points relating to this quote. Those main points are love, hate, and marriage. Romeo and Juliet is portrayed as a “love” story but Shakespeare sets it up as a pain and death story. Romeo is in love with a woman named Rosaline at the beginning of the play. Juliet has never thought about getting married before her mother brings up the idea of marrying Paris. Shakespeare has to set their tale as ill-fated at the beginning (as “two star-crossed lovers” ) not only because their families hate each other, but because they do not know anything about what true love really is or even what life is like in the real adult world. When Romeo first lays his eyes upon Juliet, he is overwhelmed by how beautiful she is. He immediately forgets about Rosaline and wants to meet Juliet. Romeo saw Juliet at a ball he never intended on going to. For a few days he kept to himself and was thinking about how much he loves Rosaline. Eventually, Romeos cousin Benvolio convinces him to go. Romeo thinks that there is no point to go but Benvolio tells him “At this same ancient feast of the Capulet's sups the fair Rosaline...

Who Is To Blame For Romeo And Juliet Essay

...Game In the story Romeo and Juliet many characters contributed to the tragic ending; however, it’s rather difficult to choose just one of the characters to take all the blame. If I had to choose one character to place the blame on I would choose Romeo. I would choose Romeo because he is the reason that the whole catastrophe happened in the first place. The reasons I chose Romeo to be the root of the tragedy is because of his self-pity, haste, and his very thirsty character. The first reason why I believe Romeo is the cause of the tragic ending of the story is because of his self-pity. In the beginning of the story, Romeo was suffering from a broken heart due to the breakup of him and Rosaline. Even though the play does not indicate...

Romeo and Juillet

...than Romeo and Juliet. Mohandas Gandhi once said “Hatred always kills, love never dies”. This quote accurately demonstrates itself within the story of Romeo and Juliet, because between the hatred of the Montague’s and the Capulet’s Romeo’s and Juliet’s love dose not sever. This is best shown when Romeo finds out that Juliet is a Capulet but does not lose his love for her. This love has also been seen in this story when Romeo and Juliet get married. Lastly this love is demonstrated when Romeo and Juliet commit suicide. When Romeo finds out that Juliet is a Capulet at the Capulet ball he becomes torn between his obligations to his family and his love for Juliet. “Is she a Capulet? O dear account! My life is my foe’s debt” (1.5.117). Romeo says this to the Nurse after she tells Romeo that Juliet is a Capulet. This quote shows that Romeo loves Juliet even though she is his family’s enemy. When Juliet says, “My only love sprung from my only hate too early seen unknown and known too late prodigious birth of love it is to me that I must love a loathed enemy” (1.5.137-140) it shows that she feels the same way about him. But not every Capulet at the ball was in love with Romeo, “This, by his voice, should be a Montague. Fetch me my rapier, boy. What dares the slave Come hither, cover'd with an antic face, To fleer and scorn at our solemnity? Now, by the stock and honour of my kin, To strike him dead, I hold it not a sin.” (1.5.53-58) Tybalt mutters to himself when he sees Romeo at the...

Romeo and Juliet: Romeo's Feelings

...In this essay I will explain how Romeo shows the strength of his feelings by reading between Romeo’s lines, looking at the techniques that Shakespeare uses and by understanding the text. Extract one, act one, scene one, it is shown that Romeo does not like the feud that is going on and on between the Montagues and the Capulets and he thinks it is stupid. This impression is given to us when Romeo says: “Yet tell me not, for I have heard it all”. This quote makes us feel like he has better things to worry about than a stupid feud and it also shows he is not keen to talk about the feud either. He does not want to hear any more about the fight and he seems a little angry. When he says: “Here’s much to do with hate, but more to do with love” it shows that he thinks that the people feuding are stupid because they nearly love each other. He is saying that love and hate are very similar to each other and therefore the feud is useless. We know Romeo is feeling sad when he speaks of himself in the third person, “Tut, I have lost myself. I am not here. This is not Romeo: he’s some other where”, it shows how depressed Romeo is because his love was rejected by Rosaline. That tells us that Romeo is serious about his feelings and love. The use of oxymoron in Romeo’s speech makes him seem confused but wise, for example, “love is heavy and light” or “hot and cold”. “Love is heavy and light, bright and dark, hot and cold, sick and healthy, asleep and awake—it’s everything except what...

...hear breaking novel “Romeo and Juliet”. In the play “a woman to her lover” written by Christina Walsh, the narrator gives her husband revised wedding vows which reveal that she will not accept being pushed around by him in their marriage. “go – I am no doll to dress and sit for feeble worship.” The narrator refuses to be objectified when she states “I am no doll”; the keyword “doll” conveys being lifeless and not having any power. The phrase “doll to dress” also possesses a hard alliterative “D” which conveys the narrator’s anger at the mistreatment of women. To add to this, we also witness men having power over woman in the poem “Havisham”. Carol Ann Duffy takes on the persona of Charles Dickens’ famous character “Miss Havisham” who is a bitter character who is filled with anger and hatred towards her ex-fiance who jilted her at the altar. Miss Havisham is now old and still carries her deep cruisifieng memories which lead her to depression and imprisoning herself in her own home. “Beloved sweetheart basted.” This strong oxymoron suggests that Miss Havisham continues to dwell on the memories of her long lost man. This quote also highlights that her emotions are clearly in conflict with one another and will continue to do so throughout her life if she does not move on. The words “beloved” and “basted” are two completely different words which both carry their own meanings. The narrator has combined these two words together to show that she loves and hates him at the same time....

Romeo And Juliet Figurative Language

...In the play Romeo and Juliet, there are several themes shown as well as forms of figurative language used to show them. When writing, Shakespeare uses figurative language in the form of metaphors, similes, personification, and imagery in order to advance the overall theme, the brutality of love. The brutality of love in this play is that a boy who may seem to be fully committed to one girl, can so easily turn to be in love with another when he is not given his way, as well as the fact that love may not always last forever when the fate of love is put in the hands of other people, and there are always outside forces urging the two of them to stay away from each other. All of this is seen occurring very early in Romeo and Juliet, and continues...

Blame In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

...Blame is the assigning of responsibility to another for a wrongdoing. People often blame people to keep their appearance, in others’ eyes, positive. Romeo and Juliet’s impulsion throughout their brief relationship is a big factor in the couple’s downfall. Who To Blame In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

...Romeo and Juliet, one of Shakespeare’s most notable works in history, depicts an infamous love story that ended in tragedy - specifically, with both of them committing suicide. When their bodies were discovered, several questions arose. Who was to blame for this tragedy? Or, was there really anyone to blame? The Prince, appalled by what had happened, had this to say: “Some shall be pardoned, and some punished” (Romeo and Juliet. 5.3.322). Although it is not directly said who he is referring to, the events throughout the play paint a clear picture of whom he holds accountable and why. This includes the Capulet’s and Montague’s endless feud, the Friar’s plan, and his own hesitation to act. Although there are several people that were responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, two that stand out were the Capulets and the Montagues -notably, their hatred towards one another. Their feud, one that lasted throughout...
