Shakespeare was a writer that explored a range of emotions in both is drama and his poetry. His presentation of strong feelings, most particularly his presentation of love and passion, is a piece of his writing that has fascinated audiences and critics alike for centuries. It could be argued that his sonnets (166 and 130) and the play Romeo and Juliet best represents his exploration of strong feelings and of love.
Romeo and Juliet is a love story written by Shakespeare, it is the most famous tragic love play. It is about “two star-crossed lovers” in different households both alike in dignity which is where the scene begins. At the beginning of the play, there’s a feud going on between the Capulet and Montague families. People involved in the feud have to defend their families and friends, even if that means bloodshed. The main thing is that Shakespeare was trying to describe an exotic place where the audience could believe a tragic love story might happen. Romeo and Juliet are about two households in Verona which is where the scene begins. Throughout the play Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare presents love as a strong and passionate emotion. He generally links love and religion in his play. The prologue is a 14 line sonnet. This describes two families that are both ‘alike in dignity’ and live in Verona; this also tells us that from each household ‘a pair of star-cross’d’ lovers will appears. Their lives are taken to mend the hatred between their families.
In Act 1 Scene V takes place at the Capulet’s party. At this point of the play the audience is aware of the fierce rivalry between the two households. In this scene Romeo and Juliet meet each other for the first time. Line 44 is the first extended metaphor relating to light and darkness. “O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright” this quote shows how Juliet’s beauty stands out among the others in the party.

Argumentative Essay On Romeo And Juliet

...Romeo and Juliet Argumentative Essay Have you ever been in love? In William Shakespeare's tragic play Romeo and Juliet a pair of star crossed lovers chose their fate. Romeo and Juliet could have changed their outcome of life. They could have changed their path by making at least three different choices. These choices are one Romeo could have spoken to Juliet's father, Two Romeo didn't need to kill Tybalt, Three Romeo shouldn't have gone to the Capulet's party in the first place. One choice Romeo could have made differently is, Romeo could have spoken to Juliet's father and asked for his blessing to marry Juliet. If Romeo had made this choice it could have changed the outcome of their fate. The reason it could have changed the outcome...

Review Essay on Romeo and Juliet

...Review essay on Romeo and Juliet On 27 April 2012, I watched Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. It was directed by Ivan Heng from W!LD RICE. It brought laughter and tears to me, from the witty scenes to the tragic parts. This version was an exciting, refreshing, contemporary twist of the classic love story. The set, costumes, music, sound and casting gave this play a whole new spin to it. I felt the casting was perfect. The main characters, Romeo, played by Hansel Tan and Juliet, played by Julie Wee, really brought out the deep emotions of their characters. Their chemistry was amazing and it wasn’t hard to imagine them as star-crossed teenage lovers. Romeo’s character was strong, with Hansel pulling of his intense feelings brilliantly, such as the part in Act 3, Scene 3 that starts with “Tis torture, and not mercy” when he talks about being banished. Juliet’s transformation from a wide-eyed girl into a self-assured, loyal, and capable woman was well portrayed throughout the play. One memorable character was Nurse, played by Neo Swee Lin. Though I felt she that at some points her Singaporean accent would emerge, it somehow worked to make the character funnier and she injected much humour into the piece with her frequently inappropriate remarks and speeches. Act two, Scene three, where she meets Romeo was especially funny when she kept going for Romeo’s chest. It was hilarious! Every scene kept the audience engaged, from the beautiful, intimate scene where Romeo lies...

Compare And Contrast Romeo And Juliet Essay

...Romeo and Juliet Essay Romeo and Juliet’s story is not a story of true love. Why you ask? The following reasons apply; Romeo and Juliet said “I love you” on the first night they met. Also, they got married the next day, and they barely saw each other, how could they know it was love. Romeo could have turned out to be someone Juliet did not expect or the other way around. First and foremost, Romeo and Juliet said “I love you” on the first night they met. This could not be true because all true love takes time, they did not take anytime to get to know each other. Saying this could have just been out of excitement and an imagination of what their first love will be like. In that era they did not have a lot to do so some would have gotten very...

Romeo And Juliet Comparative Essay Outline

...Comparative Essay Outline Thesis Statement: In “Romeo and Juliet”, Shakespeare demonstrates the concept that fate cannot be prevented, no matter what is said or done. Point 1: Fighting against fate is not worth the time, for whoever bothers will fail. Augustus seeks to control his own fate of death by not smoking, but even by trying to live vigorously, fate still won in the end. Proof from text #1: With a cigarette in his mouth, Augustus states, “You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do its killing,” thinking he had a choice of how he would die, but his cancer was already killing him. Transition Sentence: Likewise, the Friar thought he could help the two star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, be together. If...

Romeo And Juliet Decisions Essay

...Star-crossed lovers or just impetuous decisions made by Romeo and Juliet? In the story of Romeo and Juliet there are a series of event that take place that lead up tp the tragic ending. Everything that happens were choices made by Romeo and Juliet it was not their fate that caused their demise. Juliet could have told her parents about her and Romeo. When Lady Capulet states “Marry, my child, early next thursday morn” (shakespeare 84). Juliet could have told her mother why she can't marry paris. It was because she was already married to Romeo. Another time that she could have told her parents was the morning after the party. “What o’clock tomorrow shall i send thee” (shakespeare 41). With this Romeo replies “by the hour of nine” (shakespeare 42). Given this time we know that Juliet had enough time to tell her parents before sending the nurse to Romeo. Given the situation Juliet was in she could have also told the prince about Romeo. “My blood for your rude brawls doth lie a-bleeding” (shakespeare 67). The prince was mad that his relative was killed. If Juliet would have told the prince that her and Romeo were married the prince would have found out that Romeo was the one who tried to stop the...

Immaturity In Romeo And Juliet Essay

...into a world where action is given no second thought. In the story Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare, the two lovers’ lives end by the irrational actions caused by immaturity, ability to control one’s anger and misguidance conveying that one must think before they act. One can find it challenging to control their own feelings towards others because of immaturity. Romeo’s lack of maturity in being able to control his feelings is inconsistent thus, leading to the tragedy of the deaths of Juliet and himself. His approach to women is based on appearance which can be seen when he states, “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight, /For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night.” (Romeo and Juliet 1.5.59-60). Romeo falls in and out of love quickly in a short duration of time. At first, he is infatuated with Rosaline but, the thought of her suddenly vanishes from his mind when his eyes are laid on Juliet as if it was ‘love at first sight’. Fate In Romeo And Juliet Essay

...destiny. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, there are a few members that show fate’s hand in play. Of those individuals, Mercutio is shown to be the most prominent. With Mercutio persuading Romeo at the Capulet party, having divine right, and an influential death, he has most impacted the theme of fate in Romeo and Juliet. The first way that Mercutio is the representative of fate is seen where he pushed Romeo to attend the Capulet soiree. During the beginning of the play, Mercutio and Romeo are walking towards the Capulet masque. While they are walking, Romeo starts to doubt if he should go at all. Mercutio counters this by saying...
