The Ron Clark Story is a movie based on a true story of a man named Ron Clark who moves to the inner city of New York City in order to help students in need. Ron Clark wishes to help educate and give the love of learning to his students. Initially, the students do not care for Mr. Clark, and even go as far as to drive him away from helping them. But Mr. Clark does not give up so easily. In time, the students start to appreciate what Mr. Clark does for them, and the students also end up respecting him as a teacher. At the end of the year, Mr. Clark’s class scores well above average, as Mr. Clark said would happen. Mr. Clark applies much of the attributes in educational psychology in his own classroom. One attribute that was predominantly shown in the movie by Mr. Clark was his teacher efficacy. Teacher efficacy is the teacher’s confidence in their ability to promote students’ learning. Although the student’s motivation is the main force in driving their learning, the teacher can also drive and excite a student to become a better student. There were many scenes in the movie in which Mr. Clark had inspired his students into doing better academically. The initial scene was the first evidence of Mr. Clark’s efficacy. While confronting a student who was out in the hall next to a classroom, Mr. Clark asks why the student is standing in a trash can. The student states that his teacher had told him that he cannot learn and is trash, demonstrating poor teacher efficacy. Mr. Clark immediately reassures the student that the student is not trash and the student is capable of learning. This scene initially demonstrates Mr. Clark’s strong teacher efficacy. Within the next few minutes of the movie, Mr. Clark states he wants to leave his current school and wants to help students within the New York school systems. Mr. Clark’s teaching efficacy is very strong in the

Defining Diversity

...Defining Diversity Defining Diversity * To me, diversity encompasses a wide range of elements in which to classify a student population. It includes the obvious such as race/ethnicity, culture, gender, disabilities, and socio-economic status. However, diversity goes so much deeper. Diversity also includes the various cognitive levels in students, the different styles in which they learn, and the various levels of motivation in students. Each of these diversity categories can be evidenced in an educational setting. The impact it has on a school can be positive if it is approached and handled appropriately by the school and its’ teachers. If it is not, it can have very negative effects on the school and the student. Having low expectations and showing bias toward one diverse group over another can have a very negative and lasting impact. It is important to acknowledge that ALL students can achieve if given the motivation and encouragement to do so. According to Janine Bempechat, high achievers in all ethnic groups believed that success was die to hard work. She concluded, “Teachers need to help low achievers understand that poor performance does not result from a lack of ability as much as from lack of trying” (Nieto & Bode, 2008). It is for this reason that it is of utmost importance that teachers convey positive messages to their students. Building self-esteem can be the first step in academic achievement. If students do not believe they have the ability...

Film Viewing Home

...Home Reaction Paper of the movie entitled Home The film home by Yann Arthus-Bertrand is a beautifully shot panorama of the Earth and the damage done to it by modern humanity. It includes a moving narration about the evolution of the Earth, nature, agriculture, humans, and the crises of habitat destruction, energy depletion, climate disruption, degradation...of the environment, health, economic disparity, and more.  The movie starts by taking the viewer back to the beginning of time, and explains how and when life on Earth came about. We learn, for example, that the world is four billion years old, whereas humans are only 200,000 years old. In the relatively short time we have been around, however, we have had more impact than any other species. In the last 50 years alone, the movie says, the Earth has been more radically changed than by all previous generations of humanity. The movie narrates how our mother earth evolved, how the beautiful trenches were molded, the placid and bluish color of the sea, the formation of rocks, mountains, and other magnificent sceneries were being shown and narrated. The film also shows the ecological cycle of life. The biological evolution of plants where many kinds of plants were growing and cultivating around the world and the evolution of human and animal lives that we never thought would be the one who will destroy the beautiful picturesque of our mother earth.   From time to time, in the film, the narrator demonstrates and explains the...

...Attempt Only Four NO. 1 MARKETING SPOTLIGHT- NIKE Nike hit the ground running in 1962. Originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports, the company focused on providing high-quality running shoes designed especially for athletes by athletes. Founder Philip Knight believer that high-tech shoes for runners could be manufactured at competitive prices if imported from abroad. The company’s commitment to designing innovative footwear for serious athletes helped it build a cult following among American consumers. By 1980, Nike had become the number-one athletic shoe company in the United States. From the start, Nike’s marketing campaigns featured winning athletes as spokespeople. The company signed on its first spokesperson, runner Steve Prefontaine, in 1973. Prefontaine’s irreverent attitude matched Nike’s spirit. Marketing campaigns featuring winning athletes made sense. Nike saw a `pyramid of influence’’ – it saw that product and brand choices are influenced by the preferences and behavior of a small percentage of top athletes. Using professional athletes in its advertising campaigns was both efficient and effective for Nike. In 1985, Nike signed up then-rookie guard Michael Jordan as a spokesperson. Jordan was still an up-and-comer, but he personified superior performance. Nike’s bet paid off: The Air Jordan line of basketball shoes flew off the shelves, with revenues of over $100 million in the first year alone. Jordan also helped build the psychological image of the Nike brand...
