Run Lola Run

...In the film Run Lola Run the flow of the movie relies heavily on how quickly the shots move from one thing to another. The editing in the first ten minutes alone conveys to the audience that this film will revolve around rushing around, going fast, and as the title suggests, running. The fast moving editing techniques are well used to express the importance of time and how it matters. The opening scene is an array of memories about what just happened mixed with the current time frame of what is happening. The arrangement of these shots and the pace at which they evolve helps set the audience in a mood of urgency and gloom. The montage sequence links the story Manni is telling Lola, showing it as a single, continuous episode. Each cut falls perfectly into line with the dialogue as it is spoken allowing the audience further insight to the story line. The editing done is very precise and builds to a climax that really pulled me in. The tempo increases and increases, building a heightened sense of desperation. Then suddenly Lola screams and the action comes to a screeching halt. A quick cut to a turtle crawling across the floor emphasizes just how slowed down everything just became. The sounds put each cut on another level of amazement. At the 5:08 mark a heavy bass, techno genre song starts to play quietly. Between cuts you start hearing a slight noise like something is rushing by your ear. The continuity of each of their voices as they go from their location to the others,...

Run Lola Run

...The film ‘Run Lola Run’ directed by Tome Tykwer depicts various themes associated with mise-en-scene. Each theme provides unique elements to the two major components of mise-en-scene; design and composition. Every scene is characterized by urgency, and by creating this mood, the film is able to convey a feeling of expectation through hinting at things to come. It is through expectation that, time, setting and character relationship are able to govern much of what unfolds during the course of the film. Time seems to be a major reoccurring theme in Run Lola Run. The film emphasizes time constraint with every scene. Among other themes, the effect of time interaction is depicted in photographs of future events to take place in the lives of the people Lola encounters. The attention paid to time is evident in the constant reference to clocks; and the scenes depicting Lola running around the city only add to the pressure of making the twenty minute deadline given to Lola’s boyfriend Manni by his boss Ronni. The fast paced music compliments the tension faced by the Lola and Manni and grabs the viewer’s attention. The upbeat music never lets the audience forget the main characters goal of coming up with 100,000 marks within the allotted twenty minute time span. One specific instance occurs when a close up of Lola’s face as she’s thinking about various people to ask for help cuts to a shot of a ticking clock. The sound of the clock along with a visual of her father shaking his head...

Run Lola Run Analysis

...Films are a collaboration of art forms. The plot of the film is easy and engaging to follow. The characters are meant to be relatable as we aspirational. Finally the art forms that are incorporated are able to tie the entire film together. This what makes a film artistic. Unfortunately Tom Tykwer’s Run Lola Run does not make the cut as a successful film due to the fact that it leaves the audience in confusion the characters are underdeveloped, the film is trying too hard to use different art forms that ultimately become a jumbled mess, and the plot doesn’t really make sense if it is just watched from beginning to end. Characters are very important in film, they are what make the movie. Characters t are memorable and enjoyable loathsome and...

...brain cannot make the person see future events before they happen because that would be an impossible trait for a person to have. Society may think that they can solve their future outcomes just by knowing what will happen in their near future. According to Run Lola Run by Tom Tykwer, the movie shows that love, fate, and death can lead to unexpected changes throughout a person's life. In a person’s eye, love is based on sacrificing their own lives for another loved one, so that their loved one would not be harmed by future events. An evidence for that would be that in the three different scenarios,...

A River Runs Through It Analysis

...A River Runs through It, by Norman Maclean, is the coming-of-age story of the author and his brother, Paul. Sons of a Scottish Presbyterian minister and his wife, the two boys grow up in a small town in western Montana at the turn of the last century. Born in 1902, Maclean wrote this story as part memoir, partly for his brother and a beautiful way of life in Montana, both of which are now lost. Written when Maclean was in his seventies, the novel attempts to immortalize a time, place, and people, now lost to the author: a more brutal yet innocent time, an unspoiled landscape, a brother’s uncanny talents for fishing and trouble, and a father’s love, support, and guidance. Norman speaks nostalgically, but not sentimentally, of the events that...

Battle of Bull Run

...Weaponry Since many of the soldiers who participated in the first battle of Bull Run were state volunteers, they were armed with whatever the state government provided them. Many soldiers were issued smooth bore weapons at the beginning of the war. As it progressed, more and more soldiers were armed with rifled weapons, being more accurate and far superior to smooth bore rifles. For the past 150 years, the soldier’s weapon of choice was the .69 caliber smooth bore musket. These rifles were inaccurate and did not have an effective killing range (100-200 yards). A lot of luck went into the soldier’s marksmanship. In the days prior, Napoleonic tactics were commonplace on the battlefield. In this fashion, soldiers lined up side by side and fired a volley of lead into the enemy’s direction, each rank taking turns to reload while the other fired. This tactic was effective in its own right, causing high casualties to both sides. During the civil war however, good soldiers were hard to find, and advancements in technology allowed them to use tactics and weaponry that helped keep soldiers alive on the battlefield. Advancements in the weaponry used during the First battle of the Bull Run made a significant difference in many aspects of the battle. Rifles used in the battle looked identical to the ones previously used, but with one key change: rifling. Rifled weapons have groves cut inside the barrel that cause the projectile to spin as it leaves the muzzle of the weapon. This barrel groove...

The Battle of Bull Run

...1 History 1301 Central Texas College Selwyn Johnson The Battle of Bull Run Mr. Etheridge 2 The American Civil War (1861-1865) was a major war between the states of the United States, “The Union”, led by President Abraham Lincoln, who opposed the expansion of slavery and rejected any right to secession and the eleven Southern slave states that declared their secession and formed the Confederate States of America, led by President Jefferson Davis. (Carnes, Garraty, pg. 392) The First Battle of Bull Run (named after the closest body of water), also known as the First Battle of Manassas (named after the closest town), took place on July 21, 1861, and was the first major land battle of the American Civil War. Unseasoned Union Army troops under Brigadier General Irvin McDowell advanced against the Confederate Army under Brigadier General Joseph E. Johnston and P.G.T Beauregard at Manassas, Virginia, and despite early successes, were routed and forced to retreat back to Washington, D.C. (R.M Johnston) On the morning of July 21, divisions under David Hunter and Samuel P. Heintzelman crossed Sudley Springs and swept back the Confederate left flank. All that stood in the path of the 6,000 Union soldiers were Confederate Colonel Nathan Evans and his reduced brigade of 900 men. Evans had been informed of the Union flanking movement and had hastily led most of his men from their position fronting the Stone Brigade to a new location on the slopes of Matthews Hill, a...

First Battle Of Bull Run Essay

...The First Battle of Bull Run, or the First Battle of Manassas, started on July 21, 1861. It only took one day, but there was a lot to be learned about the battle. The battle took place in Manassas Virginia, and was the first major battle during the Civil War. It was the bloodiest battle at the time it took place. The fighting caused the deaths of 2,700 Union soldiers and 2,000 Confederate soldiers. This battle has two different names, because like a lot of other Civil War battles, the Union and the Confederates named it two different things. The Union named the battles after the natural recourses that are surrounding the area like bodies of water and landmarks. The Confederates got their battle names from the nearest railroad stations, towns, and cities. The Confederate army was...

To Run, or Not to Run

...To run, or not to run--that is the question: Whether 'tis easier to race And face the harsh pains of a race Or to stay lazy And, by not moving, avoid pain To run, to hit the adrenaline rush- No more – and by running to say I face The early morning preparations for the events That each race day holds ‘Tis a situation I do not wish to face To run, to race- To fall perhaps too hard. Ay there’s the problem, For in running what events may come about When we are hiding from the finish line Must make us stop and think. That’s the idea That makes disaster of running For who really wants to face the 7 a.m. sun The first start, The runners’ obnoxious cheeriness, The disappointment in Gatorade, The team’s early practices, The overly chipper song of the early bird, And the cold looks That other runners send in my direction When they too may run On weekends free from tribulations? What would heed the team’s early call To sprint and jog through the first hours of the day But that the horror of something may be missed while running That unknown events that have occurred which The gossips discuss While we stand in a confused daze Wishing we had chosen a different sport Instead of seeking those futile adrenaline rushes? Thus the chance of missing out does make runners of us all And thus the bliss of running Is tainted by eye opening thoughts of lost news And peaceful moments of calmness and scenery With this regard their paths are cut short...

...Hoffman Dr. Jack 5 Alexis Hoffman Dr. Jack English 2B 30 November 2014 “The Impact of Civil Wars’ First Battle: Bull Run” A couple months before 1861, Confederate troops had attacked Fort Sumter and as a result began the series of battles known as the Civil War. Inspired by earlier winnings made by Union troops in western Virginia, the famous president Lincoln commanded General Irvin McDowell to make an army that would attack quickly and efficiently toward the south and create a route to Richmond. That would result in ending the war extremely fast. The battle would begin with an attack on more than 20,000 Confederate soldiers. Pierre Gustave Toutant-Beauregard (P.G.T) had set up camp near Manassas Junction, Virginia (25 miles from Washington, D.C.) along a river known as Bull Run....

Second Battle Of Bull Run Compare And Contrast

...The second battle of Bull Run (The second battle of Manassas) was fought in August 28-30 in 1862 at Bull Run near Manassas in Prince William County, Virginia. This was the second time the union and confederate forces had met at Bull Run. This was a much larger scale battle than the First battle of Bull Run, which was fought in July 1861 on much of the same ground during the American Civil War. This war alone was one bloodiest war during the civil war that out of 62,000 engaged Union soldiers only 14,000 survived and out of 50,000 engaged Confederate soldiers only 8,000 survived but the outcome was a confederate victory. Run Holden Run

...Run Holden Run The Philippines is already one of the most overpopulated and dangerous societies our world has to offer. The word “safe” can no longer be explained throughout the country because even the people whose duty are to protect us, turns out to be one of the biggest frauds and pigs our country has. The society barely even has any rules. This can be seen with the high crime rate and the wrong people we might eventually encounter in our daily lives. Crime arises by the minute and it is our duty to protect ourselves from the obstacles life has prepared for us. Holden sees the world as an evil and corrupt place where peace and happiness couldn’t really be found. He is afraid of going outside of his society and interact with different people because he sees the city as a dangerous place to be in. That is why Holden wears his red hunting hat all the time to keep him “safe” from the drunks, perverts and thieves he might face in his journey in Manhattan. However the red hunting hat didn’t really keep him safe, he meets people like Maurice, Sunny and he even suspects his own former teacher Mr. Antolini might have tried to do something to him. Holden like us tries to run from these strangers and challenges, he creates and faces in his life but no matter how far he runs he couldn’t really escape the dangers of his society. He cannot hide from the world that he must face. Just by walking out in the streets of our doomed society we should always watch our surroundings,...
