“Sabrina”

The story is about Sabrina Fairchild, the teenage daughter of the Larrabee family's chauffeur, Thomas. She has been in love with David Larrabee all her life. David is an oft-married, idle playboy, crazy about women, who has never noticed Sabrina, much to her dismay. According to his brother, Linus, he is in and out of many relationships and has attempted several different career paths but never completes anything.
Sabrina is sent to Paris for a two-year fashion internship at Vogue by her father, in hopes that she will get over her infatuation for David. Sabrina returns to Long Island as an attractive, sophisticated woman. David, after initially not recognizing her, is quickly drawn to her despite being newly engaged to Elizabeth Tyson, a doctor.
David's workaholic older brother Linus fears that David's impending wedding to the highly suitable Elizabeth might be endangered. If the wedding were to be canceled, so would a lucrative merger with the bride's family business, Tyson Electronics, run by her father Patrick. This could cost the Larrabee corporation, run by Linus and his mother Maude, in the neighborhood of a billion dollars.
So Linus comes up with a plan and tries to redirect Sabrina's affections to himself, and it works. Sabrina falls in love with him. In the process, Linus falls in love with her. Unwilling to admit his feelings, Linus confesses his scheme to Sabrina at the last minute and sends her back to Paris. However, he is induced to pursue her there after a scolding from his mother and a newly aware David, who steps into his shoes at the Larrabee corporation. This film is a remake of the original 1954 film that starred, Audrey Hepburn, William Holden, and Humphrey Bogart.

Creative Use of Techniques Usually Associated with Fiction

...voice, the development of strong characters and the creation of tension and suspense. In both the two articles, the authors use subjective journalism where they involve their views into conveying the reality in a way that they want to manipulate the readers. In an article by Sabrina Rubin, the author describes how Rebecca Blumer was raped by three army men. The military officers did not treat this case kindly as they discouraged her from asking for a rape kit and failed to collect forensic evidence. Finally, her skyrocketing military job came to an end. Although it may be a factual narrative, the author reports only one side of the story; about the military’s culture of rape. Consequently, Rebecca allegations could have been a hoax. On the other hand, Charlie, the author of “What Killed Jones?” is also subjective especially where he blames abject poverty on the death of a young girl. He describes the life of Detroit and uses statistics to persuade the reader to agree that that “one death” was a reflection of unsolved homicides. Another technique that the authors employ is the use of the persona voice in both articles to establish the predicaments from the emotions of the people that encountered it. Sabrina disguises as the persona of the person being interviewed to...

Peter Olafson

...Peter Olafson Peter Olafson is a general manager that reflects poor general management skills. In his messy situation he has much to deal with, but he has much better ways to handle them. Olafson needs to learn how to manage his boss, stop avoiding conflict and ask for better resolutions rather than just trying to fix an employee his way. After these minor adjustments in his managing techniques Olafson would be a remarkable general manager. As a general manager, Olafson greatly needed instruction on managing his boss or maybe even bosses. It starts when Olafson is confused on who he is to report to. He is under the impression it was supposed to be the president, but just allows the reporting chain to happen. He did not by any means bring this up to anyone. He could have simply asked to get clarification, perhaps if this was clarified maybe he would’ve been able to report to both of them and get the support he so desperately needed. Regardless, he began reporting to Harvey. As Harvey as his manager he had several complaints as the support he was receiving from him, and the suggestions he did receive he negated as wrong and disagreed with them. Where it isn’t necessarily wrong to disagree with his manager, he did not offer any suggestions as to what type of supported he needed. Olafson only complained about what he was missing. Olafson should have asked Harvey for coaching from experienced personnel whom have accomplished the pre-operating phases successfully. In the case...

The Eoq Model

...THE EOQ MODEL Name: Course: Tutor: Date: The EOQ Model The types of costs minimized by the EOQ formula The first one is the inventory holding cost, which is a representative of the capital cost incurred by the management. This covers all the costs spent on units, the space the units consume, deductions on inventory, and the desuetude allowances. These costs are measured as a product of unit and time, which define the rate of demand. The other cost is the cost on fixed orders. This represents all costs incurred in order placements but excludes the unit costs. Thus, this costs accounts for the costs incurred in the receiving and the placing of an order. When it comes to the case of manufacturing, it accounts for the costs of putting in place the necessary equipment in the production of order-quantity. These costs are very significant and must thus, be accounted for in any company (Schwarz, 2008). The difference between the POQ model and the EOQ model The EOQ model considers a tradeoff between the cost of ordering and the storage cost when choosing the amount to use in the replenishment of item inventories. The quantity of order is quite affected by the ordering frequency and this extends to affect the cost of ordering. Holding a larger inventory in average increases the storage costs in that particular month. On the other hand, the POQ model considers one product at any particular time. This is because the materials for production...

Emirates Airline

...9 -7 1 4 -4 3 2 JANUARY 29, 2014 JUAN ALCÁCER JOHN CLAYTON Emirates Airline: Connecting the Unconnected Introduction Late afternoon was fading to dusk as Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, gazed out at the large crowds mingling outside at the 2013 Dubai Airshow. Front and center at the event was the official program launch of the Boeing 777X, a massive new hit thanks to Emirates’ record order of 150 new planes. Valued at $76 billion at list prices, this was the largest airplane deal ever inked. Letting his thoughts drift, he noted, he imagined with pride these planes joining the collection of widebodied Emirates planes assembled on the tarmac of Dubai International Airport, ready to ferry passengers from Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas and the Gulf to their respective destinations. This is the face of the global economy, he thought to himself, as he marveled at his company’s success. Emirates was indeed a global success story. In just twenty-five years the airline had grown to become the third-largest airline globally by capacity and the largest by number of international passengers.1 (See Exhibit 1). Twenty-three new routes were added in 2012 and 2013,2 and capacity growth was expected to increase by 18.4% in 2013 thanks to deliveries of new aircraft, including the new A380s deployed to over 20 destinations.3 Emirates anticipated that its meteoric growth would continue and was building its fleet accordingly: with 41 A380s integrated into its fleet thus far...

Stages of Life: Childhood and Adulthood.

...Stages of life: Childhood and adulthood. BY: Laura Geraldine Ramirez. Definitions of life stages can be found in Greek literature from the time of Socrates and Plato. These descriptions are based on the changes and behaviors which humans have during life. Basically, a stage of life is a period of time when people suffer a big physically change and in their mind as well. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast the differences between two stages of life: Childhood and adulthood. Childhood and adulthood are two important ages of a person; however, some people decide to define one of them as the best stage of their life, depends on these fourth main aspects which make each one totally different to the other: physical appearance, cognitive development, the interaction with others, and the way of they view the world around them. Children and adults share some main characteristics which defined them as humans, but one of the most notable differences between a child and an adult is the physical appearance. Children development depends by the age, and the conditions that the little boy has. Also, children do not care about their physical appearance. For example they do not think about the effect of diet on health. In contrast, adults always want to be perfect and want to belong to the stereotypes created by society: a symmetrical face, a slender body, a perfect teeth and be fashionable. The second aspect to consider is the cognitive development...
