Sudden Unexpected Infant
Death (SUID)

Each Year in the United States,
Thousands of babies die suddenly and unexpectedly. These deaths are called SUID, which stands for
“Sudden Unexpected Infant Death.” Sleep-related causes of infant death are linked to how or where a baby sleeps. They are due to accidental causes. These deaths are not SIDS
(NICHD, 2012).

Summary of Teaching/Learning Interaction : Accident Prevention and Safety Promotion for Parents and Caregivers of Infants

...SAFETY PROMOTION FOR PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS OF INFANTS I. Demographical Information Respondent is a 27- year old Hispanic woman who just had a baby daughter two months ago. She is married, and works as a waitress in a local taco shop with minimum wage. She said that she only finished 6th grade. She only works part-time, because they couldn’t afford a baby sitter. Her mother sometimes helps her with the baby because her husband works full time as a construction worker. Maria is her first name. Maria was seen in a community health clinic because she reported that her 2-month old daughter “almost died in her sleep”. According to her, the baby was left in a crib with furry toys and pillows. When asked about what type of bedding does the baby have, she responded that she used a soft mattress that was covered with a thick blanket. She said that her daughter “sleeps longer when covered”. However, one night, after coming home from work, she noticed that her baby is not responding. She found her sleeping in her side with that stuffed animal blocking her face. She immediately removed the toy, grabbed the baby and called 911. She was thankful that the baby survived. After two days, Maria was asked to see the baby’s local health clinic to follow-up the baby’s condition. II. Patient’s Response to Teaching My initial thought about this was SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, which can occur when the baby is less than 1 year of age and is sleeping in an unsafe sleeping...

The only river is the Salt River ("Celebrating Arizona’s," 2012). Phoenix is a multicultural city ("Profile of General," 2012). A phenomenological feature is their affiliation with religious groups. The number one religion is Catholicism ("Phoenix," 2012). Some of the major social interactions include professional sports, golfing, hiking, and colleges ("Phoenix," 2012). Some of the major challenges and barriers are the poor air quality, extreme temperatures in the summer, and dust storms. The values and beliefs of the people are from the viewpoint of multicultural diversity. Almost every ethnic group is represented. There are many synagogues and mega churches that meet the religious needs of all the various religious groups. Health promotion is evident by the importance of education. Asthma

...1. Discuss the pathophysiology of asthma. The pathophysiology of Asthma includes inflammation of the airway. The way in which this works is from an irritant which can include dust, pollen, cedar, or cat hair. When a reaction occurs, the airways become inflamed and narrow. The narrowing occurs because once the inflammatory response is triggered by an irritant, histamines, immunoglobulin E antibodies, and leukotrienes are released. Because of this, mucous production occurs. Since the bronchioles are inflamed and narrow, breathing becomes difficult. Wheezing sounds can be heard due to the lack of air being able to easily move in and out of the narrowed bronchioles. 2. Discuss the educational points that should be included when implementing standard education for the asthma patient. The standard education points when taking care of an asthmatic patient would be the important of recognizing the symptoms of an asthma attack. This is important so the patient would know when to use their inhaler before the situation becomes too severe. The patient should be aware that tightness of the chest, feelings of difficulty breathing, and the sound of wheezes are all indicators of an attack and the need for an inhaler. Another education point would be what can trigger asthma attacks. The patient should be educated on how changes in elevation, weather, cigarette smoke, animals, and exertion of the body can all trigger an asthma attack. The patient should be told to always carry their inhaler...

This leads to all sorts of health riskssuch as coronary heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea and many more. Furthermore, a research has shown that death rates from cancer were 52% higher in men and 62 % higher in women with excessive weight than in people with normal weight (Eugenia E. Calle 2003). A large proportion of overweight people have been trying to lose their weight in every possible way. However, not every attempt was successful. Due to that, the pharmaceutical industry has been developing and testing a large variety of medicines that are specifically made to help people with weight issues. One of the newest drugs on the market is Metabical, a prescription drug developed by Cambridge Sciences Pharmaceuticals (CSP). Based on the results from clinical trials, Metabical has been proven effective for weight loss of overweight people. The question is how willMetabicalbe introduced to the market? PULL MARKETING The main idea was to advertise Metabical directly to consumers in order to increase the awareness of the product. This strategy was based on pull marketing where the purpose was to attract the customers and make them approach the supplier or seller first. It is not an assertive way of marketing in comparison to push marketing where a seller calls potential customers on the telephone asking whether they would like to purchase a product they might not actually...

Aids: the Modern Black Plague

...AIDS: The Modern Black Plague The AIDS epidemic has reached a crisis level in Africa and needs to be addressed by the United States. Efforts to teach the population AIDS prevention, reduce the price of certain medications, and influence the local leaders to teach their citizens about AIDS should be considered by the United States. Along with those efforts, the United States needs to help with the aftermath of the epidemic. In order to fully understand what the United States needs to do to help, we must first realize why the AIDS epidemic has risen to a crisis level in Africa. When the HIV virus matures it turns into what is known as AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). It is a life threatening disease that when contracted is eventually fatal. There are treatments and medications that can help slow the painful symptoms of the disease, but so far research has not found a cure. Since the early 80’s AIDS has become quite a scary issue because of its life-threatening nature. Unlike the common cold or other viruses transmitted through the air, AIDS is only transmitted by sexual contact or by the sharing of needles. AIDS, though a worldwide problem has now climbed to an epidemic level in Africa. CW Henderson, writing for AIDS Weekly, reports that, “70% of the world’s AIDS cases are located in sub-Saharan Africa”(20). Anderson goes on to report that, “The disease kills 6,000 people a day in Africa, has orphaned about 15% of children in the worst-hit cities, and by some...

Strategic Management

...Case 41 IKEA : Building a Cult Global Brand IKEA is a state of mind that revolves around contemporary design, low prices, wacky promotions and an enthusiasm that few institutions in or out of business can muster. Perhaps more than any other company in the world, IKEA has become a curator of people’s lifestyles, if not their lives. At a time when consumers face so many choices for everything they buy, IKEA provides a one-stop sanctuary for coolness. It is a trusted safe zone that people can enter and immediately be part of a like-minded cost/design/environmentally sensitive global tribe. If the Swedish retailer has its way, you too will live in a BoKlok home and sleep in a Leksvik bed under a Brunskära quilt. Beds are named after Norwegian cities; bedding after flowers and plants. IKEA wants to supply the food in your fridge, it also sells the fridge, and the soap in your shower. The IKEA concept has plenty of room to run: the retailer accounts for just 5 to 10 per cent of the furniture market in each country in which it operates. It is, however, a global phenomenon. That is because IKEA is far more than a furniture merchant. It sells a lifestyle that consumers around the world embrace as a signal that they—ve arrived, that they have good taste and recognize value. ‘If it wasn’t for IKEA,’ writes British design magazine Icon, ‘most people would have no access to affordable contemporary design.’ The magazine even voted IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad the most influential...

Mental Health

...Health Promotion Whilst on placement on an adult mental health acute ward, I had the chance to participate in health promoting activities. One health promoting activity I took part in was ensuring a safe and effective discharge of a 33 year old patient who had a diagnosis of disorganised schizophrenia, in order to prevent readmission. Mr. Raja (pseudonym) is divorced and lives alone, lacks in family support and is unemployed. He was admitted onto the ward after he had a relapse because he was not taking his medication. Service users who stop their prescribed medication regime are at a greater risk of experiencing a relapse of their mental illness (Carter et al 2003).In this assignment I will be discussing the health promotion aimed at encouraging concordance to medication regime. I shall discus the definition of health and health promotion and also the model of health promotion that best describes the care that was given to the service user. Mr Raja had other noticeable health issues such as overweight and smoking; however this will not be addressed in this essay. The World Health Organisation (WHO) describes health as a “state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” (WHO 2009). The constitution goes on to explain that the highest achievable standard of health is one of the basic rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, and political belief, economic or social condition (WHO 2009).
