Txt As well-educational and intriguing the book was I do feel that there was a lack of thrilling environment. Paul Boyer and Stephen Nissenbaum’s work on Salem Possessed was a very accurate and portrayed chronological events with a set of two families to represent and be a figure for what it was like in Salem during the witch trials. Each family brought various elements and styles for the time period and are viewed to provide opposing views and an understanding of a dispute that happened before the witch trials and during it. This is also provides an understanding of the economic and political controversies of the time. With the chronology of events that happened before, during and a few after the witch trials provides an understanding of the situation and allows the audience to grasp how and why certain events and reasons took place.
Yet, overall the book, produced by Boyer and Nissenbaum, provides an excellent explanation of two factions that came about …show more content…
During this time the people of Salem were unsure of themselves and their own status. Therefore when two leaders both with positions of power over Salem Village, the citizens didn’t know how to react. Who would take charge and rule over Salem to keep order? This was solved by Salem with a collective assembly. “June 18, 1689, a ‘general meeting of the inhabitants’ of Salem Village- precisely which Villagers were present, or how many is, unknown- agreed to hire Mr. Parris as minister…” (pg. 61). Mr. Parris was elected as minister, a basic leadership role to provide order for the Village of Salem, as a result to a small and possibly insignificant event, where those who had control over Salem stepped down and left it without a leader to watch over
