...Should Same Sex Couples be allowed to adopt? Tanisha Culberson 08/30/2015 Should Same Sex Couples be allowed to adopt? Society's image of a perfect family includes a father and a mother of the opposite sex. People feel this is what's best for a child. What a bunch of baloney this is just a stereotype. What happened to the best interest of the child? Why are there so many same-sex couples getting rejected by adoption agencies? Why are there so many children being kicked out of the school system because they have gotten too old. In the United States, more than 397,122 children are waiting to be adopted. Approximately 2,000,000 same-sex couples are interested in adopting, but religious groups are against it, and a lot of adoption agencies associated with different religious groups. Most religious groups feel as though same-sex couples should not even marry. They believe in God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve, who gave them the right to judge? Same-sex couple's path to parenting is not easy. It depends on state laws and lots of money. In addition to same-sex adoption, it could help move children out of the welfare system, which would create more money for the state. Homosexual parents are more motivated and committed because they are parents by choice, not by accident. How many children are placed up for adoption by opposite sex couples? How many children are up for adoption by same-sex couples? Sexual orientation does not influence good parenting. People should...

Same Sex

...Same sex marriage is not only wrong but immoral for these reasons alone it should not be allowed. The definition of marriage as stated by Merriam-Webster is “the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law.” (N.A., 2011) This union was started as a religious recognition of the union between man and woman and what began in the church was upheld and made a legal binding contract under the rule of law. In order to adapt to the changes society has undergone in accepting same sex relationships the rule of law adapted domestic partnerships. Domestic partnerships were created to include partners of the same sex, but the law would not recognize these unions as marriage. If marriage were changed to adapt to same sex couples then the sanctity of marriage would be eroded and this would lead to a slippery slope for what we define marriage as. It wouldn’t be far off before people would be petitioning to have polygamy made legal. Osama Bin Laden was a polygamist that was killed with one of his wives in the room, whom he used as a human shield. Is this what we want our society to become? If you feel that same sex marriage is a right then this is the society that you want. Domestic partnerships should be enough for same sex couples asking for the definition of marriage to be completely changed is wrong and selfish of these groups. Marriage once adapted to meet same sex couples could potentially be...

Same Planet

...Same Planet-different worlds Growing up partly in Nigeria and in the United States gave me an insight into how different and sometimes similar cultures and values are. I was fourteen years old when my family relocated from Nigeria to the U.S, but at that age I was already groomed by my parents and society to act and think a certain way. This was a mindset that was ingrained in me right from a tender age. There was one acceptable way to act in public and quite a different one with family and friends. As limiting as that was, it was an acceptable lifestyle in Nigeria. Coming to the U.S. and experiencing the differences in culture was a big shock to me. It was not an easy transition. I quickly found out that some of the things frowned upon in Nigeria were acceptable in this society. Some of the fundamental cultural differences between these societies are in their outlooks on divorce, homosexuality, and the roles of women. One of the differences that struck me was how briefly marriages lasted in America because of divorce. Although many marriages are arranged in Nigeria, married couples tussle to sort issues out for better or for worse, no matter what the situation is. I, like most Nigerians, believe marriage is a form of blessing if married couples are willing to grow old together. The divorce process is fairly easy in America; however, most couples will file for divorce at the first sign of trouble. My first year as a freshman in America was devastating mainly because many of...

...Maitlyn Davisworth ENG 102 Professor Smille The Injustice Involving Same-sex Marriage The legalization of gay marriages has been argued and talked about in our society for the earlier few years. It really is a very questionable subject matter. It is difficult for a lot of people to accept gay marriages. Writing a same sex marriage essay is becoming a more and more popular assignment, giving scholars the possibility to express their ideas on this particular matter. Same-sex marriage (also known as gay marriage) is marriage between two people of the same biological sex and/or gender identity. Legal recognition of same-sex marriage or the possibility to perform a same-sex marriage is sometimes referred to as marriage equality or equal marriage, particularly by supporters.(Dictionary.com) In early times, same-sex marriage was not considered taboo and in many cultures, it was encouraged. Random History (2011) explains that in the early civilizations of Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt, the union between couples of the same-sex was recognized by the kingdom. During Greek’s early years, attraction between a man and another man was normal and was considered an expression of love. “The main considerations in same-sex relationships in early history were often love, beauty, and excellence of character rather than gender” (Random History, 2011, p.1). Same-sex marriages were often believed to be more pure than a heterosexual marriage. Marriage was believed to be the union of two people based...

Same Sex Parenting

...Same-sex Parenting Shaelyn Leckington Comm/215 July 21, 2014 Julie McCabe Same-sex Parenting Everyone should have the opportunity to parent a child if they wish too. It is an experience unlike many others to have a child. A child to love, nurture, and help mold into an adult. People of all different genders, races, and ethnic backgrounds have been able to adopt children. Even single individuals can adopt a child. However, there is an issue that has made itself known, most of society frowns upon same-sex parenting. This makes it hard for same-sex couples to adopt children. There are those in the community that believe same-sex couples should not be parents. They believe that the children of same-sex parents will struggle with development, psychological, educational and, sexual orientation issues. There have been many studies that show there are no pertinent effects on children of same-sex couples. Certain studies, conducted by William Meezan and Jonathan Rauch, show that there is nothing to support that same-sex parents are unfit to hold parental roles. There is no scientific evidence to prove it. However, research does imply that same-sex couples are just as likely to maintain safe, constructive, healthy and, supportive living environments for their children as opposite- sex parents. There are little to no differences in the development of the children from these couples. When the rare difference is found they sometimes favor the same-sex parented...

Same-Sex Marriage

...Same Sex Marriage Recently the discussion of same sex marriage has been a hot topic in both the political and religious arenas. This controversial issue has caused many citizens to take a solid stance on same sex marriages based on his or her morals, beliefs, and viewpoints. Popular reasons that citizens considered when deciding their stance are civil rights, religion, parenting, and financial matters. This paper will break down the pros and cons of each of the reasons listed and attempt to come to a conclusion of should same sex marriages be legalized in the state of Californians. Civil Rights The Constitution of the United States was written in 1776, which during that time there were no gender specifications noted pertaining to the recognition of a legal marriage. Same sex marriage debate is so large that in 1996, President Bill Clinton signed for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which clarified that marriage is between a man and woman. The main reason gay and lesbian couples are fighting hard to legalize same sex marriage is so those couples will be allowed to and benefit from the same government, financial, and legal stances as heterosexuals marriages. Several states allow partnerships or civil union for same sex couples, however, they are denied certain rights given to heterosexual couples (National Conference of State Legislatures, 2013). Because of the growing debate of same sex marriages, President Obama administration said that it would no longer defend...

Although the idea of same-sex marriage can be traced back to ancient times, in the United States, it not is legally reorganized at the national level. Some federal governments have, however managed to legalize same-sex marriage; namely in Massachusetts, Vermont, the district of Columbia, Iowa and Connecticut. The issue of same-sex marriage is one that has attracted a lot of controversies world over. In many nations, it has attracted conflicts in such issues as social, moral, political, religious and civil rights. The argument of same-sex marriage is an important one. The question of legalization of same sex marriages is an issue in many of our states today. I would like to argue that same-sex marriages do not infringe on any civil rights, but it is also immoral. We, as Christians, should not be afraid to stand up and use our Constitutional rights to speak against same-sex marriages. The debate over whether same-sex marriage should be legalized has focused on the infringement of civil rights. State recognition of marriages is not a common right. States control marriages in many ways, not just by denying same sex gender the right to marry. Approximately...

Same Sex Merriage

...Same Sex -Marriage What comes to one’s mind when he or she hears same-sex marriage? Same sex marriage or gay marriage is the union of two people from the same-sex. In the United States marriage is approved, currently five states have legalized same-sex by vote to the State Legislature. The issue has been controversial, because for many people same-sex-marriage is considered immoral. Most religions see homosexuality as abnormality because of their religious believes. In the article “Gay Marriage, an Oxymoron” by Lisa Schiffren. In the article she claims that the basis for society to develop and support marriage is for people to engender and raise children in the normal form. Her allegation is that is that same-sex marriage should not be legalized because making it legal will change the definition society gives marriage, giving it a different definition that will try to make same-sex marriage equivalent to heterosexual marriage. Schifrin fails to argue in her article based on the following subjects of discussion: religion, the importance of children in marriage, the fairness of legal benefits. First Lisa Schifrin brings out religions, more specifically Judeo-Christians claims that the concept of same-sex marriage is contradictory. In her article she express in her writing. “Same-sex marriage” is inherently incompatible with our culture’s understanding of the institution. Marriage is essentially a lifelong compact between a man and a woman committed to sexual exclusivity...

Same-sex marriage can help in many ways whether it is helping with benefits, adoption, or lowering divorce rates. To begin with, same-sex couples should have access to the same benefits enjoyed by hetersexual married couples. When couples get married they get many benefits. Some benefits include hospital visitation, protection of an ending relationship, taxation rights, access to family health coverage. According to a poll taken by the New York Times “a same-sex couple denied marriage benefits will incur an additional $41,196 to $467,562 in expenses over their lifetime compared to a married heterosexual couple” (Gay Marriage). Gay marriage is in the Constitution’s commitments to liberty and equality. In 1974, court case Cleveland Board of Education vs. LaFleur the Supreme Court ruled “freedom of personal choice in matters of marriage and family life is one of the liberties protected by the Due Process Clause”. (Gay Marriage) The Due process law is a safeguard of life, liberty, or property by the Government. Banning same-sex marriage is unconstitutional under the Due Process and Equal Protection Clause. There are a lot of children being born that families cannot take care of for various reasons. To adopt a child the couple must be married and in a stable home. If same-sex couples get married they will be allowed to adopt...

Same Sex Adoption

...Same Sex Couples and Adoption Children all over the world have been abused, abandoned, and neglected. In an effort to save these children state agencies are seeking families who will take these children into thier homes through adoption. Family dymanics are different within each househld and should be considered when families or couples seek to adopt. Considering the trauma that some of these children have suffered, exposing them to certian situations will cause further trauma. Therefore same sex couples should not be allowed to adopt. Same sex couples should not be allowed to adopt because adoption into family dynamics such as these expose children to sexual behavior that could lead to illegal drugs and promiscuity. According to Glenn (2002), "GLB (gay, lesbian, bisexual), orientation was associated with increased use of cocaine and other illegal drugs. Among sexual risk behavior, sexual intercourse before 13 years of age, sexual intercourse with four or more partners, and sexual contact against one's will are associated with GLB orientation." (Glenn, G., 2002, p.4) These children become confused as to their own sexual identity and experiment at and early age trying to identify their sexual orientation. The same sex couple family dynamics deny the children the love that a mother and father can provide. It is a difficult task for two women to teach a boy child how to treat a woman, give him advice from a man's point of view,...

Same Sex Marriage

...11/8/06 Argument Essay Same-Sex Marriage: Not a Match for Society Marriage, as defined by Merriam-Webster, is “the legal relationship into which a man and a woman enter with purpose of making a home and raising a family” (358).Although most people in the United States, including myself, agree on that definition, there are a select few who do not. Some feel same-sex marriage should be legalized; I disagree! I disagree because of its effects on children, its unnaturalness, and its religious immorality. My first argument addresses the effects of homosexual parents on children; and children affected by homosexuality in general. A child living in a home with homosexual parents encounters the problem of the lack of either a mother or father figure, which is important in raising a child, instead of being raised by both a mother and a father. Studies have shown that being raised by a mother and a father, children are less likely to do drugs, commit suicide, or become pregnant (Dobson). Another disadvantage to homosexual rearing is the child may become confused about his or her gender and sexuality. One source explained that females raised in a lesbian home are four times as likely to become lesbians themselves; and for males raised in a gay home, they are twice as likely to become gay as well (Kiley 2). Another concern for children with homosexual parents is sexual abuse from one or both of the parents, which is fifty times as likely as opposed to heterosexual parents (Kiley...

...Same Sex Marriage should be legal for many reasons. For example if two of the same sex want children they can adopt. Also if a man and a woman can get married then two of the same sex should also have the equal right to get married. Some people will realize that they are gay before getting married to the opposite sex, so divorce rates will decrease. If people of the same sex are going to have children anyway, then why not let them get married to help them support there child. Also for example Kara and Miranda fell in love at first site and decided to get married.Last summer they held a ceremony on the west coast near glass beach. All of their family and friends attended. After the reception, the two went on their honeymoon. When they returned, they felt like a married couple. They moved in together, opened their gifts and started talking about having a baby.Although the couple feel committed to each other, they have no equal right to protect there marriage like a man and a women would have.If Miranda was giving birth to there child then Kara wouldn’t have the right to be with her in the hospital. If Miranda died during birth, her distant nieces and nephews have more of a clam to her belongings than Kara does. They both file “single” on their tax returns and are not allowed to be on each others car insurance or health...
