PREFERENCE OF CREDIT, definition. It is the right held by a creditor to be preferred in the payment of his claim above other out of the debtor’s assets. NATURE AND EFFECT OF PREFERENCE 1. A preference is an exception to the general rule. For this reason, the law as to preferences is strictly construed. 2. Preference does not create an interest in property. It creates simply a right of one creditor to be paid first the proceeds of the sale of property as against another creditor. 3. The law does not give the creditor who has a preference a right to take the property or sell it as against another creditor. It is not a question who takes or sells, it is one of the application of the proceeds after the sale—of payment of the debt. 4. The right of preference is one which can be made only by being asserted and maintained. If the right claimed is not asserted or maintained, it is lost. 5. Where a creditor released his levy, leaving the property in possession of the debtor, thereby indicating that he did not intend to press his claim further as to that specific property, after that act, his claim to preference, if one had been asserted y him, could not exist because he had ceased to contest. Development of Smes in Ghana: Analyzing the Constraints to Growth

...macro-stabilization and structural adjustment appears to be in line with that of many other developing countries that have pursued similar policies. Their experience reveals that such programs do not lead automatically to the resumption of growth, let alone ensure the transition onto a higher growth path. The recent experience of transition economies has shown that price stabilization and opening up may not be enough to achieve a rise in the trend rates of investment and growth. Recognizing this evidence, policy emphasis has shifted to pinpointing complementary policies that will lead an economy from stabilization to growth. The policy debate today focuses on reforms. Ghana immediately after independence made tremendous effort towards achieving full employment and socio economic development through public investment in medium and large scale enterprises. Notwithstanding the direct involvement and the effort of the government, the sector is saddled with a lot of constraints, including scarce capital, intensive technology, foreign exchange constraints, poor management, corruption and inadequate attention to economic viability and market prospects which has resulted in poor performance of the industries in terms of output and employment (Steel & Webster, 1992). Following an economic recession in the 1980’s which resulted in the retrenchment of workers from the civil service, the rationalization of production in the private sector under the Economic Recovery Programme (ERP) was launched...

The business currently has a website that provides general information about the products carried by the store as well as prices of such produce. The owner indicated to me that occasionally it ships produce to customers in other Western states like Utah and Nevada. In such instances customers call the store by telephone to place the order. The website has no platform for online distribution. The store carries fresh yams and plantains shipped from Africa, as well as dried and canned goods, like egusi, yam and cassava flour, gari and fufu. The web address is www.mariaproduce.com As the Latino immigrant population in the United States has grown so has the growth of the various markets that serves the needs of this ethnic group While there are many variations in foods eaten in most Latino countries there are commonalities among immigrants from the four main regions of Africa: north, south, east and west. Most Latino grocery markets are operating in a brick and mortar fashion with no online presence. Substantial number of these stores has no websites. The few who have websites do not offer customers an online purchasing opportunity. To the extent that Latino ethnic markets continue to show growth, business owners could explore innovative ways of meeting the needs of their customers. Online marketing presents a great opportunity for this purpose. In addition to groceries most of these stores provide a vast array of products...

...of Education and Communication (HLK) Jönköping University C-thesis 15 hp Media and Communication Studies Spring term 2008 Abstract Linda Hultberg Women Empowerment in Bangladesh A Study of the Village Pay Phone Program Number of Pages: 38 The purpose with this study is to find out how the mobile phone and the Village Pay Phone from Grameen Telecom have been implemented into women’s life in rural Bangladesh. It also aims to study how the women have become empowered by this program. The sample constitutes sixteen female owners. A purposeful cluster sampling was used to depict six villages from various parts of Bangladesh. When arriving in the villages a snowball sampling method was used to find female VPP owners. The sampling method was chosen to include a sample of various characteristics. The study has a hermeneutic phenomenological approach, which aims to find out how the women experience the VPP and what meaning the women put in it. To collect empirical data interviews with open questions were used that opened up for conversation and the possibility to understand a range of experiences and nuances of meanings. The findings indicate that the majority of the women handed over the VPP to their husband or a male relative. The reason why is the families’ pressure on them to adjust to Purdah and seclusion, too much domestic work, lack of education, or because of the attitude among men and women both that business is a male domain. The study shows that women mostly gained some prestige...
