Erp Software Comparison

...companies utilize ERP software to manage a suite of applications from cost, development, product planning, financial management, to manufacturing. The benefits of ERP systems are not without cost. There is initial implementation, software, hardware, data storage, training, maintenance and upgrade cost that maybe associated with any ERP System. Depending on the size of the company these cost can be in the thousands, to hundreds of thousands, to millions of dollars. For companies like Kennametal, to make significant changes to an ERP System once implemented, or to completely migrate to a different ERP System can multiply those cost. (Wisner, J., Tan, K., & Leong, G., 2012. p. 198). There are many ERP software solutions for major corporations that fit all budgets and offer a variety of features based on a firm’s needs. Three of those companies we will discuss in closer detail are Oracle, SAP, and Microsoft. Each of these companies offer the ability to configure their software to be tailored to an organizations specific demands; whether it be, choosing a type of inventory accounting or how the company choses to recognize its profits. In addition, each of these three companies offer functionality by providing the option to have ERP data housed on a server in a specified location or, an increasingly more popular option, by usage of the cloud. Furthermore, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, and Oracle all offer some sort of mobile or “App” functionality. The acronym SAP stands for Systems...

...The Goal of this summary is to provide Riordan Manufacturing the ability to facilitate business needs for the four divisions within Riordan Manufacturing; Finance and Accounting, Internet Site, Sales and Marketing, Human Resources and Legal, and Operations. Finance and Accounting Presently, all four locations use finance and accounting systems to collect, analyze and generate financial data for the company’s sales and revenue reports. This requires the company to manually generate reports, re-enter data and convert this data to compatible formats for the corporate headquarters to process. Each manufacturing entity uses similar subsystems such as procurement, order entry, invoice and shipping. The invoice subsystem will need to interface with the accounts receivable component. These systems feed into the sales and purchasing history, accounts receivable and accounts payable. The procurement, accounts payable and accounts receivable then are provided to the general ledger. Payroll is a separate subsystem that connects to the general ledger. Procurement is the obtaining of the necessary raw materials and supplies and this system needs to keep track of what is on order and in house. The order entry system records all of the customer’s orders. Order entry then provides data to the invoice system for correct billing. Accounts payable keeps tabs on making payments obtained via the procurement system while accounts receivable records customer payments on their invoices. The general...

The Development of Sap

...SAP What is that? What is that? Many people may be bewildered after watching one of the company's limited television commercials - the same question jokingly asked in the ING commercials a few years ago. And the acronym SAP, should not be confused for "soon as possible" or the white liquid that sips from the back of a tree, either. SAP stands for Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing. In this highly advanced technological era, it is almost unimaginable for companies not to implement systems such as SAP’s so as to boost their Information Systems. Since the global community has 'gotten much smaller', than say fifty years ago, it is imperative that companies design their Information Systems with integrated features so as to operate effectively between countries. The implementation of SAP technology is no longer an advantage but a competitive parity and its relevance toward the field of Management Information Systems is paramount. "Get in the game or fall off the wayside." The story and development of this giant of a company is remarkable. SAP grew from a very modest five member staff at the founding of the company in 1972 to approximately 53,000 employees 38 years later (sap.com ). That is like hiring an average of 1432 employees per year for the last 37 years; a significant contribution by many standards. The company's success and relevance to the world of Information Systems can be attributed to its founders, management, and employees realizing SAP's mission...

The ERP system is a set of software applications that organize, define and standardize the business processes necessary to effectively plan and control an organization. A set of planning applications can provide recommendations for what must be accomplished in order to meet the forecasted demand and keep the business functioning smoothly. Planning is at the core of ERP and is embodied in a top-down hierarchy of functions: master planning, detailed material and resource planning, and execution, such as production control and purchasing. Master planning is the executive level function that sets the operational business plan, supports the sales and operations planning (S&OP) process. Detailed material planning (Material Requirements Planning or MRP) uses bill of material and inventory information to develop a complete manufacturing and purchasing plan for all products, assemblies, components and materials.
