Saying Goodbye

Looking back When I first walked through the doors of Brunswick High School four years ago, I saw an open door to multiple opportunities. I remember everyone telling me how this would be the best four years of my life. Since that day a lot has changed. My surroundings have changed, my image has changed, my friends have changed, and my knowledge has advanced. From the beginning of high school I have met some very important people. In class on my first day of school I remember I met numerous people and I could not even match names with faces on the second day. I remember most of all how welcoming everyone was and how warm hearted and kind the teachers were. Of course now as a senior, four years later I pass the faces of people that were once close friends that have now become strangers and I pass teachers I used to adore and look the other direction. It is a sad thing to think about but life goes on. In my opinion, high school prepares students for the real world. It doesn’t just give us knowledge on mathematics and how to translate shakespeare. It teaches us the ins and outs, and the ups and downs of life. You meet real people, ones that would cross an ocean for you, and the ones that wouldn’t cross a puddle. You meet yourself, you learn who you are, who you want to be, and what you want to accomplish. You make mistakes while there is still room for improvement. You find parts of education interesting that you thought you would never care about. You watch the people around you succeed and at the same time you watch others fail. You are surrounded by people that make good choices and others that make bad choices. In these moments you learn which direction you are going to take. For me I have learned to take things day by day, and week by week. I learned to not let the little things like, getting a F on a test or a fight with a friend, get the best of me. Most of all I have learned to put my happiness before others because in the end it is me and only me against the world. I feel blessed to have gotten the opportunity to learn from such wonderful teachers. I am not saying they were all angels, but I have gained something so important when walking out of each and every one of those classes. Everyday I hear people talking about how pointless high school is. While you are sitting in class listening to your teacher talk about what you feel is pointless information, look at the bigger picture. I have learned so much more than E=Mc^2 and the in depth details about government branches. Starting freshman year I dealt with things I’d never imagine I’d encounter. I surrounded myself with new faces, good and bad. Thankfully I had Mrs. Weight, a wonderful language arts teacher who kept things bright on the darkest days. She had once said “A glimpse from our past can help us move ahead in the future.” Every wise word she’s spoken has stuck with me through these past four years. We had to read a book titled Dandelion Wine, by Ray Bradburry, Mrs. Weights favorite author, and I will tell you when she handed us this book I wanted to throw it at her for making us read it. But, by the end of the novel it wasn’t as horrible as I’d imagine. She ended our year together with the heart felt words, “I hope that when the dandelions begin to grow and spread in your yard and fields surrounding your homes, you will love and remember that with each dandelion is a memory to be shared, respected and loved.” On that last day of school I don’t think I have ever cried that harder in anyones arms. That leads me to my sophomore and junior year I got to spend my wonderful days at Brunswick High School with the crazy Mrs. Lopano. I had been through some horrible things that I couldn’t talk about with my parents. Thankfully she was there by my side everyday. She gave me hope for the future and gave me the love someone would only share with a daughter. And believe me when I say I needed love through those rough days. Also I can’t forget about Mr. Hottensmith always cracking jokes that no one laughed at but me and throwing out brain teasers at eight am when everyones still half asleep. He made the days go by faster. He might not be the most entertaining teacher in the morning but he has one of the biggest hearts and I couldn't respect him more for it. The past three years, even when I didn’t have a course with him I’d visit just to add positivity to my day. Now looking back at these four years I see all the battles that I have been through and I am more than thankful for the teachers, friends, and family that have gotten me to where I am today. I hope that with all the lessons I have learned, my future will be as bright as the sun. I know my parents have well prepared me for what is to come. I have learned proper social skills and I gained everyday knowledge straight from their heads to mine. Every action I take can only prepare me for my future. In five years from now when I will be either finishing up college or already done, I want to look back on all the things I have accomplished and be proud of myself. Most importantly I want others to be proud of me. I want my parents to have the chance to brag to their friends about how far I have come and how proud they are of me. I only want the best for myself and all the fellow friends and family around me. If I do one thing wrong in life it will be surrounding myself with the wrong people. I always tell myself if I surround myself with good people with good intentions only good will come my way. With all that being said my advice goes out to everyone going through hard times. When you don't think you can go anymore you have to dig deep down inside of you and find that little ounce of hope to keep pushing through. One of my favorite quotes that my best friend once told me is “An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means it is going to launch you into something great. So just focus and keep aiming.” You can never see into the future so with hope of something great to come, you can accomplish anything. Something my parents always tell me besides “Clean up your room” is “Enjoy what you have and work hard to make your life better. The most successful people have hit rock bottom and look at them now.” Every time I don't want to study for a test or every time I don't want to go to work I tell myself that. Giving up on yourself will never be worth it. You will rarely give up on something beneficial to your life and have things turn out for the better. My family keeps me going and pushes me to my limit every single day. Like Walt Disney once said “The most important thing is family.”

Goodbye

...Another goodbye story This goes down as another story, another chapter. Another story to sit and ponder about, another chapter added to my book of life. I sit and type these words out all I envision is you walking towards me, you walking strong. All I can envision is your smile you say hello to me, and the side eye you give when you walk away. Hurt. Hurt is a common feeling that I have, you hurt my feelings, not by your actions but the way you go about it. I guess it's easy to completely ignore someone as if they don't have any feelings. It rude and its mean. But that's something you do and don't seem to want to change, it obviously works for you. But Sevante I'm done, I done changing your mind, I'm done textng you, I'm done calling you. All in all you really don't care so why should I. We had our fun and we shared great laughs, but I'm not allowing you to do what you want with me. And only deal with me when it's convenient for you. It's not right. I really like you and you know that. But your words and your actions are no longer lining up. So today is goodbye. Goodbye to our jokes, goodbye to our laughs, goodbye to our smiles. Goodbye to our hugs, goodbye to our kisses, goodbye to our intimacy. Goodbye. I pray that one day you will see that what your doing isn't good, and I pray that you never have to go through it....

Saying "I Do"

...Morganne Truesdale Instructor: Alling ENC 1101.77 June 24, 2013 Essay #1: Saying “I Do” What’s the first thing that pops into your head when you think “marriage”? Do you smell a home cooked meal waiting on the table, after a long-hard day at work? Do you picture a beautiful home with a white picket fence? Maybe you think about a gorgeous white dress, that was altered to fit you just right. Or maybe it’s not white at all because your favorite color is black, and you refuse to be cliché on what’s supposed to be the most important day of your life. Maybe you see half of everything you own being taken out from under you if this whole “marriage thing” goes south, and that’s just not a chance you’re willing to take. Maybe the thought of being committed to one person for the rest of your life frightens you, and all of a sudden that beautiful woman standing next you is looking more like a prison warden, rather than your future wife. Whatever your views or opinions on marriage may be one things for certain; no one ever walked down the aisle, said their vows, and pledged before God and everyone most precious to them expecting to fail. Marriage was not always based on the idea of two people falling in love and wanting to spend the rest of their lives together. In the 1800’s marriage was not just regarded as the joining of two people, but the joining of families, businesses, and wealth. Many women had suitors pre-arranged for them by their fathers. Although most marriages were...

Beautiful Goodbyes Lyrics

...I remember your eyes were so bright When I first met you, so in love that night And now i'm kissing your tears goodnight And I can't take it, you're even perfect when you cry Beautiful goodbye, bye, bye It's dripping from your eyes, your beautiful goodbye It's dripping from your eyes, oh yeah When did the rain become a storm? When did the clouds begin to form? Yeah we got knocked out of course by a natural force And well, we'll be swimming when it's gone And I remember your eyes were so bright When I first met you, so in love that night And now i'm kissing your tears goodnight And I can't take it, you're even perfect when you cry Beautiful goodbye, bye, bye It's dripping from your eyes, your beautiful goodbye It's dripping from your eyes, oh yeah All the pain you try to hide Shows through your mascara lines as they stream down from your eyes And let them go, let them fly Holding back won't turn back time Believe me, i've tried Your eyes were so bright And I remember your eyes were so bright And I remember your eyes were so bright When I first met you, how in love were we that night And now i'm kissing your tears goodnight And I can't take it, you're even perfect when you cry Beautiful goodbye, bye, bye It's dripping from your eyes, your beautiful goodbye It's dripping from your eyes, yeah Beau....oh yeah (laugh)...

I Am Sayings of Jesus Christ

...I Am Sayings Paper BIBL 323 B12 The Gospel of John Liberty University Abstract Jesus Christ was the most influential and the most controversial of all God’s teachers and prophets. His time spent discussing His deity by use of metaphors such as the I AM sayings lead the Pharisees to believe less in Him as the messiah, and more in him as being crazy. To understand Jesus’s claim to be the good shepherd, it is important to review the evidence of the claim compare it to the Old Testament which points toward Christ and apply the finds to the claims of Jesus’ deity.  Jesus the Good Shepherd John wrote his Gospel of Jesus Christ for two reasons. The first reason was to communicate the message of Christ by providing examples of His miracles and his teaching in order to generate belief in the unbeliever that Jesus was who he said he was: the Son of God (Towns, 2002). The second reason was that those who then believed would have eternal life because of the faith that Jesus Christ was truly the fulfillment of the Messianic prophesies as Savior and Lord (Ibid). Jesus’ teaching style was not always easy to understand, and often created dissention between those who believed, and those who did not. He lessons linked who He was to prophesy about Him made by Old Testament prophets. In John’s Gospel there are eight lessons that are known as the “I Am” sayings that exemplify this teaching style by linking Him to well-known images and symbols provided in the Old......

Camel Saying

...Sarah Montalvo Latin American Liberation Theology 10/8/13 Initially when I read both parables The Camel-saying and The Last Will Be First I interpreted the text (out of context ) thinking to myself that the Bible was speaking of social reversals once in heaven. The verse goes "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God" (Mk. 10-25). Before analyzing the euphemism behind the "eye of a needle", I misinterpreted the symbolism and understood the verse as if it was intentionally saying the rich are not allowed into the kingdom of heaven. Important facts about the verse that are not mentioned straight in the Bible are that the "eye of the needle" is a gate way in Jerusalem where travelers would have to walk through. In order for people to go through the "eye of the needle" with all their baggage, they would have to get rid of or take off their baggage to be able to walk through. Even now that the verse makes more sense, it is confusing to some why God would ask us to get rid of our wealth/belongings. The verse as a whole was originally not intended directly to the rich (as I later found out), but rather everyone who is too concerned with power. That could be anything from their ego, their wealth, or anything holding them back from living a life for Christ and not for this world. So the parable is showing that in order to be set apart from this world it is necessary for Christians (people who want to......

Saying the Unsayable

...Saying the Unsayable (Rebuttal) In this paper the writer tries to demonstrate that freedom of speech can have many different affects on different cultures. This writer gives different views and arguments supporting this claim. As a writer, one tries to stay within the guidelines of freedom of speech, but still tries to keep the reader interested in the story. In one example the writer stated that, “since 9/11 the climate has changed in the UK’. I believe that since 9/11 the views of the world changed not just one particular area. The writer wrote many different articles around religion/family values and got different responses from these cultures both negative and positive. When one is writing on religion or family values you must be willing for the controversial rebuttal. One must chose topics that offend as well as promote the good. The writer began censoring herself after one theater play received threats, and she received unwanted obscenities. She then writes, “Some hate me but a lot more love me” (pg93 par 2), shows a response for the audience of these plays. When one begins creating plays it is for money not to see how love or hate the artist or creator of the play is. It is to tell a story of interest and highlight one thought by bringing it to life in front of an audience. This writer also placed a small bio of herself and family to the reasoning for the theater plays. In my opinion using her bio to show or depict how her religion culture......

I Am Sayings of Jesus Christ

...“I Am” A Paper Presented to Dr. Jason Hilgeman Of Liberty University Lynchburg, VA In Partial Fulfillment Of the Requirements for John BIBL 323 By: Keith D. Lewis March 8, 2013 The seven “I AM” sayings are a signature of John’s gospel. They are quick to the tongue of many Christians when defending a variety of doctrines. Indeed, the “I AM” sayings alone can almost summarize Jesus’ teachings about his own deity and nature. Of particular interest is the saying found in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Nobody gets to the father except through me.” This paper will be concerned with this saying, and explore the events surrounding it, its relation to God’s revelation of himself in the Bible, and its significance to Christ’s deity. The back drop of this saying is the upper room discourse. Jesus has called all the disciples together so that he may share a last meal with them and give them his last parting directions before he dies. He has washed the disciple’s feet, implicitly announced the man who will betray him, and has foretold Peter’s denial. He has also given his “New Commandment” in 13:34: “A new commandment I give you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” This I AM saying is in the middle of Jesus’ discourse. It was provoked by a question from Thomas. Jesus had just explained the he was going to “prepare a place” for them (14:3), and further revealed to the disciples, “and you know the......

Goodbye Lenin

...“Goodbye Lenin” The movie that was planned on being shown, “The Miracle of Bern”, was replaced with “Goodbye Lenin” because the DVD was region locked for Europe and could not be played on an American DVD player. “Goodbye Lenin” was a story of a boy named Alex who saw his mother fall into a coma, and when she wakes, he tries to keep her from knowing all that has happened in the eight long months since she was last conscious. “Goodbye Lenin” starts out in 1989 in East Germany. The Kerner family is made up of Alex (main character), his mother Christina, and his sister Ariana. Alex’s mother is a huge believer in the DDR and when she sees Alex fighting against German police control, she faints in the street as he is taken away. He finds her in a hospital in a coma. Skip forward eight months and the Berlin wall has been taken down and the DDR no longer exists. Christina wakes up from her coma, but Alex is warned by the doctor that any sort of shock could scare her enough to kill her. So for the rest of the movie, Alex does everything he can to keep his proud, DDR supporting mother from knowing what has happened the past eight months and what the current state of West and East Germany is. It’s a bit difficult to write about what I learned from the film, solely because I just got back from a trip to Berlin a few weeks ago and I learned a lot about the history of West and East Germany. This film was more of an entertainment film, rather than an educational one. I......

Goodbyes Are Not Forever

...GOODBYES ARE NOT FOREVER I never thought I could get this attached to my classmates, so attached that I have mixed feelings as we graduate. I am happy for I know how much we’ve waited for this. I have felt our excitement for it vibrated throughout our classroom as we started with our countdown. I know that we’re happy because of the new freedom close at hand, a new challenge which perhaps tingle our spine from time to time. Yes, graduation has offered us a different kind of happiness. Yet, I’m sad deep within for I know that after this, we’ll go on our separate ways, living our separate lives. I have this creeping feeling we’ll barely see each other from now on. Hey! You’ll be pursuing your dreams and I’ll be pursuing mine. I’ll be forgetting my dear classmates for a while as I daringly take hold of a new chapter in my life, and I guess they’ll do the same too. You know, “forget the buried woes and dead despairs for there’s a brand new trial right at hand.” And then, as we settle down in our new “nest”, we’ll start remembering each other, and all shall be coming back – the laughters, the tears, the jokes, the songs – every little moment I have shared with them. But for now, I have to move on. I have to search for my rightful place in “the circle of life.” Then, though fate may separate us, I hope that sometime, somewhere, we’ll meet again. I shall look forward to that day when I can embrace you and we shall talk, laugh, cry......

Goodbye Home Sweet Home

...Anna Hauss Jennifer Parrack-Rogers English 111-006 Description and Illustration Essay 13 September 2011 Goodbye Home Sweet Home It was a day like any other day. I woke up early to prepare for what Monday had in store for me. Class was first on the agenda and I was driving into town when my phone started ringing abruptly. Dad was calling. The moment I picked up the phone my stomach dropped and cold chills devoured my body, as he told me our house had caught fire. I sensed the chill of a shadow cast over me and everything seemed to be moving in slow motion. Instinct pricked me and I knew I needed to return home. When I arrived, my entire street was blocked with fire and rescue crews. On the surface and from a distance, my house looked fine. I started to wander towards the chaos. The closer I proceeded, the damage was more apparent. My eyes began to fill with tears as I sat down tucking my legs to my chest as tight as I could, hiding my face between my knees. I had images racing through my mind of my house being engulfed in flames, with thick, dark smoke pouring out of the windows and roof. I sat in disbelief feeling utterly alone, suddenly assaulted with the vastness of the destruction. I sat, as tears continued to slowly make their way down my somber face, and studied the entrance of my black, damaged home in absolute doubt. I could not help but feel sick to my stomach with anger and discomfort for the obvious injustice of the situation. I heard car doors shut and......

Divorce Time to Say Goodbye

The song has deep and meaningful words, even though it is about a man ending his side relationship with his lover, it holds true for any relationship that is ending, especially a marriage. There are several reasons why people decide to dissolve their marriage. No matter, how they arrived at the decision, the end result not only affects them but it will affect the children, pets, family, and friends. They must determine the best way to inform their loved ones about the dissolution of the marriage. They must also decide who will have custody of the children and pets. When a man or woman is fed up with their spouse mishandling of finances, lack of communication and unfaithfulness; they feel divorce is the best solution. Money is a touchy topic regardless of the situation but there are several reasons why people may mishandle their finances. No Time for Goodbye

...Everyone has their own flaws and imperfections, nobody is perfect. Whether it be a physical flaw or a mental flaw. Most mental flaws are caused from a traumatic experience. Enid, Cynthia’s father’s wife suffers from borderline personality disorder and Cynthia’s friend Vince Fleming has intermittent explosive disorder. Cynthia Bigge is the main character of my book, at a young age of fourteen she woke up one day and her family was gone without a trace. The police never found out what had happened that night, the mystery became a cold case. Twenty five years later she received a call from a TV producer asking her if she wanted to be in a mystery TV show about her family disappearing (17). Cynthia said yes, thinking that it would reopen the case and she could find answers. After all these years of not knowing if her mother father and brother were alive or dead caused her to worry which lead to a stomach ulcer. Cynthia’s worries started when her family abandoned her, but she eventually started worrying and feeling anxious about everything and was diagnosed with severe anxiety. She worried about little things, such as if her daughter Grace was safe walking to school on her own, if that brown car really slowed down just to stalk her (34), or of she left a light on at the house...
