The City School District of Albany

Looking at an organization’s environment and its culture we can estimate the strategic direction of the organization. A great organization sets long term directions and builds the support of everyone. The educational system decisions are very complex and include a team of discipline and expertise. Goals and objectives provide the blue print that determines the future of the organization. The city school district of Albany provides guidance, direction, facilitates planning, motivates and inspires employees, and helps evaluate performance. The mission of the City School District of Albany is to educate and prepare all students for college and career, citizenship and life, in partnership with our diverse community. The district serves nearly 8,900 students in 15 schools: 11 elementary schools, two middle schools, one prekindergarten-grade 8 school and one comprehensive high school. Nationally recognized Albany High School features four themed academies, the prestigious International Baccalaureate program and the largest selection of Advanced Placement courses in the Capital Region. At the elementary level, the district offers full-day prekindergarten at every school and at several community locations, and outstanding school-choice options that include three theme-based magnet elementary schools, the Dual-Language Program and open enrollment options across the district. Under the leadership of Superintendent Marguerite Vanden Wyngaard, Ph.D., the district is engaged in a strategic effort to become the best urban school district in America in which to learn and work by 2020.
