Success can be defined in different ways based on people’s perspective. In my opinion, success is being able to achieve my career and life goal while being satisfied. Specifically, I will be successful if I know the science-related career I want to pursue in post-secondary school. While in life, I would be successful if I am financially independent with a well-paying job. Others may look at success in being wealthy or the amount of happiness in their life. This can be seen in the film, “The Pursuit of Happyness” where success resulted in happiness and happiness resulted in success. From the film, Chris Gardner was found successful in achieving his career goal and from the time spent with his son. However, I believe that my perspective on success …show more content…
I will know if I have been successful in achieving my career goal would be from the choices I made to help me to decide my future career. Some examples of choices I have made to help me choose my career would be the science-related courses and extracurriculars I took such as Health and Wellness Co-op. I will also know that I have been successful if I am constantly improving and providing quality work. As said in the Ted-Talk video by Richard St. John, he stated that success is a continuous journey from being hardworking. From his experience, he figured out that it was easy to be successful, but it was also easy to fail once he started to give up. Another way you will know you have been successful, is if you are passionate about your work. Being passionate is an important part of being successful because it drives you to continuously improve and be diligent towards work. This was seen in the Michael B. Jordan Youtube Clip, where he stated that his career was filled with failures, but he kept on trying. His positive and open mindset helped him succeed because he is still a well-known basketball player and an influential figure to

Basically, their SOPs are much more direct and to-the-point than ours. [5] REMEMBER THAT A SOP *MUST* BE ORIGINAL. Statement of Purpose I am applying to Stanford University for admission to the Ph.D. program in Computer Science. I am interested in Theoretical Computer Science, particularly in the Design and Analysis of Approximation Algorithms, Combinatory and Complexity Theory. My interest in Mathematics goes back to the time I was at school. This interest has only grown through my years in school and high school, as I have learnt more and more about the subject. Having represented India at the International Mathematical Olympiads on two occasions, I have been exposed to elements of Discrete Mathematics, particularly Combinatory and Graph Theory, outside the regular school curriculum at an early stage. The intensive training programs we were put through for the Olympiads have given me a lot of confidence in dealing with abstract mathematical problems. My exposure to Computer Science began after I entered the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. The excellent facilities,...

Reflection Paper

...Running Head: REFELECTION PAPER Reflection Paper NUR3805 Professor OrNah 11/09/2014 Reflection Paper Why do you think it is important for the nurse at the bedside that nursing is recognized as a discipline? The nursing profession is made up of several different subspecialties and career paths, which have developed a positive view on the nursing career. Marilyn Parker discusses how a discipline must have a clearly defined domain, which expresses the theory and focus of the profession. The traditional nurse is responsible for a wide array of roles such as: educator, advocate, counselor, and caregiver. The world’s view of the nursing profession is a well-distinguished career field. “The discipline of nursing is a community of scholars, including nurses in all venues, where nursing occurs.”(Parker, 2003, p. 8) I think it is important for the nurse at the bedside that nursing is recognized as a discipline because for centuries nurse theorist and other nurses have contributed to the success of the career. If I was asked what the normal blood flow through the heart is, I could easily consult my memory, my anatomy textbook, or search for the answer online. Thus, I know for certain that there is only one correct answer. Many questions that arise during bedside patient care are indeed science related and often have only one correct answer. On the other hand, during patient care there are several questions...

Career Researsch Paper

...Career Research Paper Part I: Physics strives to identify fundamental principles governing the build and deportment of matter, the engenderment and movement of energy, and the interaction of matter and energy. Some physicists use those principles in theoretical areas, such as the nature of time and the beginnings of our universe, while some work in practical areas such as the development of advanced materials, optical and electrical devices, and medical equipment (BLS, para. 2). I chose physics for my career research paper because I have an intellectual curiosity for the world, the universe, and everything in between. I want to understand how matter moves through spacetime, and how the universe behaves. Understanding physics also means understanding many other scientific areas of study, thus providing an intimate knowledge for reality as we know it. Many physicists work in laboratories, where they design and perform experiments with sophisticated equipment. Some of that equipment includes lasers, particle accelerators, electron microscopes, and mass spectrometers. Although much research may be conducted through experiments in the lab, physicists still spend much time in offices planning, recording, analyzing, and reporting on research. Many who are deeply involved in research way also work very long or irregular hours. For basic research positions, independent research in industry, faculty positions, and advancement to managerial positions, a Ph.D in physics or related...

Factors of Career Choices as Determined by External Milieus

...FACTORS OF CAREER CHOICES AS DETERMINED BY EXTERNAL MILIEUS A Micro Research Paper Arabia, Lord Mark Anthony M. Villones, Wilson C. ED 4 Educational Research and Evaluation Masilang, Judy Marcia M. 22 March 2012 THE RESEARCH PROBLEM Career choice is an ongoing process, needs in-depth study, and requires much thought as it a decision that affects your future. As you learn new things you get an understanding of what you are interested in, what you would enjoy doing and what will be one of the best paying options. Career planning is a never-ending process as you gain experiences, grow, and improve. You need to give it a thought (Koonar, 2009). And there would always be a time that students will definitely begin to discern their future career. When the students reached this point, they now start to solicit ideas of what course to be selected as an embodiment of their future career. However, though most of them solicit ideas from the people who are learned in a particular discerning situation, they usually end up selecting their own choices (Polistico, 2009). When they fail to choose what their hearts desire, then would most likely shift course and end up the college level doubling the time intended for the particular course. The purpose of the study is to determine if career choice is really determined by the external milieus to which the students used to live. Furthermore, it seeks primarily to explore the extent of how these external factors could predict students’...

...Author’s version of: Case, J. M. (2008). Alienation and engagement: Development of an alternative theoretical framework for understanding student learning. Higher Education, 55(3), 321 - 332. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s10734-007-9057-5 Alienation and engagement: Development of an alternative theoretical framework for understanding student learning Jennifer M. Case Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Cape Town Abstract In this paper it is suggested that the themes of alienation and engagement offer a productive alternative perspective for characterising the student experience of learning in higher education, compared to current dominant perspectives such as that offered by approaches to learning and related concepts. A conceptual and historical background of the concept of alienation is presented, followed by an overview of some contemporary perspectives. Drawing on this literature, a framework is then developed for characterising student learning. It comprises three categories, referring to the alienation resulting from 1. entering the higher education community, 2. fitting into the higher education community, and 3. staying in the higher education community. Each category has an associated set of theoretical tools that can be drawn upon in analysing this aspect of the student experience. Human Resource Management in Multinational Organizations

...Instructor's name Course name Date Human Resource Management in Multinational Organizations A Preliminary Research on Self-Initiated Expatriation as Compared to Assigned Expatriation Human resource management in multinational organizations is complex due to the cross-cultural and international aspects related to its nature. This article examines the phenomenon of 'expatriation': choosing to leave one's own country in order to live or work in another, usually for a long period of time. Multinational organizations require a certain level of staff relocation in order to improve their knowledge of emerging markets as well as maximizing their talent resources. In addition to assigned expatriates, meaning those moving to another country following an assignment from their workplace, the article refers to "self-initiated expatriates, meaning people who choose to move to another country on their own. Human resource needs for both kinds of expatriates are unique, and may differ from each other. Self-initiated expatriates may exhibit more motivation to live in a different country and uproot their family for a long period of time, and this motivation may facilitate an easier transition, therefore being less demanding for the human resource management (Mo and Jian-Ming 170-172) Workplace flexibility and the changing nature of work: an introduction This paper examines articles referring to how the changes in the work environment require flexibility on behalf of the organization...

Factors that play a role include the growing number of retirement-ready employees, technological changes, shifts in industry growth and decline, and the risk of losing star employees as more opportunities emerge. In addition, other countries —notably Greece, Portugal, Italy and Spain —are still in a deep recession, which could mean that hiring and voluntary attrition remain static. These factors have the potential to force the next “War for Talent” among HR leaders vying to fill critical roles with specialized skills. Whether this perfect storm comes to fruition is yet to be seen, but one thing is certain: Organizations need a plan for replacing the retiring workforce...
