"Childhood is not from birth to a certain age and at a certain age the child is grown and puts away childish things. Childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies."-Edna St. Vincent Millay
From the time I was born to the time I was five years old, I traveled a lot. From home to home, town to town, and family to family. Frequently uprooting made times difficult. But, things changed when I was given a very special friend upon entering my last foster home. He was a brown stuffed dog with a purple ribbon tied in a big bow around its neck. His name was Scooter and, once given to me, I carried him everywhere. Even though I am 19, Scooter has been my best companion.
When I was five, Scooter could be seen held tightly in my arms, even while I was sleeping.

...world, the rising costs of automobile production as well as the rise of automobile insurance rates, the ability to provide a targeted group of consumers with an alternative to the automobile would be a benefit to the company and its shareholders. I am recommending that Nissan research the feasibility of producing electric scooters to complement the current product line. This product would appeal to the millennium generation in that it would provide them with affordable transportation, a new mode of travel that is not saturated in the USA and Canada, as well as a product that alleviates parking problems, pollution, and high costs. Currently in Canada, new drivers are required to wait 12 months before they can be road tested in order to obtain a driver’s license. This means that new individuals out of school that do not have a driver’s license must find alternative ways of transportation both to and from work and for social outings. The proposed product would be designed so that it meets the regulations that do not need an automobile driver license. The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, Canada, does not require driver licensing for electric scooters. The company could sell consumers additional features such as...

Indian Motorcycle Industry Overview

...passenger vehicle (PV) and medium & heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV), slowed down to single digits - marred by demand slowdown due to northward movement of inflation, fuel prices and interest rates - the 14% growth recorded by the 2W industry remained steady. However, the momentum in the 2W industry’s volume growth too has been losing steam lately as evident from the relatively lower volume growth of 11.0% recorded in H2, 2011-12 (YoY) against a growth of 17.1% recorded in H1, 2011-12 (YoY). The deceleration in growth is largely attributable to the motorcycles segment which grew at a much lower rate of 7.8% (YoY) in H2, 2011-12 vis-à-vis 16.4% in H1, 2011-12; even as the scooters segment continued to post 20%+ (YoY) expansion during both halves of the last fiscal. With this, the share of the scooters segment in the domestic 2W industry volumes increased to 19.1% in 2011-12 from 17.6% in 2010-11. Overall, ICRA expects the domestic 2W industry to report a volume growth of 8-9% in 2012-13 as base effect catches up with the industry that has demonstrated a strong volume expansion over the last three years at cumulative annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.8%. Over the medium term, the 2W industry is expected to report a volume CAGR of 9-11% to reach a size of 24-26 million units (domestic + exports) by 2016-17, as we believe the various structural positives associated with the domestic 2W industry including favourable demographic profile, moderate 2W penetration levels (in relation...

...SDM-Institute For Management Development, Mysore Marketing Management-1 Project on YAMAHA INDIA MOTORS Submitted to: Dr. H. Gayathri Submitted By: Group 12 Aditi Singh – 10004 Krishna Chandra – 10020 Rajiv N. – 10032 Srikiran C. Rai – 10048 1. INTRODUCTION BRIEF HISTORY OF THE INDIAN TWO-WHEELER INDUSTRY: In the 50s the two wheeler segment was largely dominated by Automobile Products of India (API) and Enfield. Later on towards the end of the 50s Bajaj Autos began importing Vespa scooters from the Italian company Piaggio. In the following decades, the automobile industry in India was mainly dominated by scooters with API and later Bajaj dominating the market. There were very few products and choices available as far as motorcycle is concerned and Enfield bullet and Rajdoot dominated the market. The 80s saw the entry of Japanese companies in the Indian market with the opening up of the market to foreign companies. Hero Honda and TVS Suzuki are companies formed in this era of market reform. The market was still predominantly scooter dominated and Bajaj and LML were the leading brands producing two-wheelers at that time. Scooter was viewed as a more family and utility friendly vehicle than motorcycle and hence was preferred. The Japanese companies not only collaborated with Indian companies to produce the already existing products but also brought in new technology as a result of which the ever conquering 100cc...

Transportation Problem of Dhaka City

...households randomly selected from several purposively selected neighbourhoods of the city, representatives of middle and lower income areas. The questions asked focused mainly on three issues: (a) the nature of the problem as perceived by the surveyed residents, (b) their understanding about the causes of these problems and (c) their recommendations on solutions to these perceived problems. Some preliminary results from this survey were presented at a workshop, which was participated by persons associated with the formulation and implementation of traffic policies, rules and programmes. This Draft Final Report benefits from valuable discussion and comments received at the workshop. The methodology of this survey is explained below in brief. It is easy to see that the study extended beyond a standard opinion poll and entered the arena of investigative research in seeking some explanations to perceptions as well as behaviour. The findings are presented mainly in the form of self-explanatory tables with some introductory highlights and conclusions. A further extension of the survey is currently being completed to cover the very poor and the rich categories of residents as was recommended by several participants at the workshop mentioned earlier. B. Methodology During the round of the opinion poll the main focus was on the middle and lower income population of Dhaka city. Therefore, the sample was drawn from 30 purposively selected neighbourhoods which are...

Merger Between Walt Disney and Pixar

...Part 2: The Change Analysis -Images of Change This part of the project was asking us to analysis the image of Change within the two companies that choice to compare and contrast. While researching the information on Disney and Pixar, I came across some differences between Steve Jobs and Michael Eisner regarding how the two companies will work together. Going through the articles that I have read through they all show that Disney and Pixar has always been competing against each other on who can make the best animated motion picture. Here is a little history Disney has always been about producing animated features and live-action movies and as for Pixar they have always produced computer-animated movies. In this paper I will be talking about the Image Change, basis of image, application to Company #1, Company #2, pressures for change, differs from others how and the unintended consequences from Image. Lets begin with the three Images; I choose Director, Navigator and Nurturer. The reason that I choose these three is because of the people that were involved with this merge. There was Steve Jobs who was the President of Pixar and Michael Eisner who was the Chief Executive Office for The Walt Disney Company in 2005, Einser resigned and Robert Iger took his place. These three men I put them down under Director, because they were the ones who were in charge of executing the changes between the two companies. Next is Ed Catmull and David Stainton who were are in charge of making...
