How to Create a Tableless Website Using Dreamweaver CS3 or Higher
This seatwork and guide should make it easy for you to learn how to apply css in creating a tableless website layout.
The end result of this seatwork will look like this:

Setting up your project
Let us start from scratch by setting up your project. 1. By now you should have already defined your site for WebDev1. 2. Create a folder under the root folder (web) and call it “tableless”. 3. Create a folder inside the tableless folder and call it “images”. Copy the image files provided into the folder. The image files are: a. Logo.gif b. Mother_baby.jpg 4. Create a folder called "css" under the root folder. The css folder is where you will later save your css file. 5. Make sure you are in the tableless folder; create the blank pages of for your site. They are: c. Index.htm d. Services.htm e. Aboutus.htm f. Contactus.htm
Create template and external css 1. Let’s start with creating a new template. You have two options. a. File > New > Blank Page > HTML template > none > create

b. File > New >Blank Template > HTML template > create

2. Save the template. Name it template_css. It will get saved as a .dwt file in a new "Templates" folder that will create itself. 3. Edit the title to “Sitename”.

4. In the css panel click the NEW CSS RULE icon. In the window do these: c. Selector type = tag d. Tag = body e. Define in = new style sheet file f. OK

g. This will open the Save Style Sheet File As window. i. Click on the CSS folder to enter it ii. Name your file “styles” iii. Click SAVE

5. In the CSS RULE DEFINITION window: h. Block > Text Align > center i. Box iv. Padding = 0 (same for all) v. Margin top = 0 vi. Margin left = auto vii. Margin bottom = 0 viii. Margin right = auto

6. Ok. Ok. 7. Go to File > Save all. This will save the two files that are currently open: “template_css.dwt” and “styles.css”. Every time you edit a file the * symbol will appear.
The Header 1. Insert > Layout Object >DivTag 2. In the INSERT DIV TAG window: a. ID = header

b. Click NEW CSS STYLE 3. In the “New CSS Rule” window that opens: c. Selector type = advanced d. Selector = #header e. Define in = styles.css f. OK.

4. In the CSS RULE DEFINITION window: g. Box i. Width = 780 px ii. Padding = 0 (same for all) iii. Margin top = 0 iv. Margin left = auto v. Margin bottom = 0 vi. Margin right = auto

h. Ok. Ok. 5. You will see ‘Content for id "header" Goes Here’ in a dotted box appearing in the document window. This is the header div. 6. Look at the css panel on the right and you will see 2 styles: body and #header.

7. Let’s specify the default font in the body tag. Double-click on BODY. This will allow you to edit the body tag. i. Select “Type”. j. Specify Font = ‘Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif’. k. Size = 12 pixels l. Click “OK”.

Logo and Search DIV 1. Delete the words ‘Content for id "header" Goes Here’ and keep your cursor inside the div. a. Insert > Layout objects > div tag b. ID = logo c. Click NEW CSS STYLE button 1. Selector type = advanced 2. Selector = #logo 3. Define in styles.css 4. OK. 2. In the CSS RULE DEFINITION window: d. Block > Text align = left e. Box i. Width = 50% ii. Float = left iii. Padding = 0 iv. Margins = 0

3. Ok. Ok. 4. “Content for id "logo" Goes Here” will appear in the document window. And a new style #logo will appear in the css panel. 5. Go into the code view (click the “Code” button at the top of the document window or select View > Code). Place your cursor after the div id="logo" closing tag i.e. After “<div id="logo">Content for id "logo" Goes Here</div>” 6. Go back to design view (click the “Design” button or View > Design) f. Insert > Layout objects > div tag g. ID = search h. Click NEW CSS RULE button, selector =#search, click OK. 7. In the CSS RULE DEFINITION window: i. Block>Text align = right j. Box i. Width = 50% ii. Float = right iii. Padding = 0 iv. Margins = 0 a. Ok. Ok. 8. Delete “Content for id "logo" Goes Here” and insert the logo image. There are 2 ways to do this. k. Insert > Image > browse and select logo.gif from the tableless > images folder l. Drag and drop image from images folder into the logo div. 9. To make sure you don’t make a mistake here, go to split view and we will insert the elements in the code view. Delete “Content for id "search" Goes Here” and insert the search code here. For now you can simple enter a form tag, a text field and a button. Please note that the search will not actually work until it is programmed to do so. You can use one of the free search options such as Google search for your future projects. m. Insert > Form > Form > ok

n. Do not move your cursor. Go to Insert > Form > Text field > ok

o. Insert > Form > Button > ok

p. Click on the button that appears and rename it in the Properties panel. Value = Search.

Menu Bar Div 1. Still in split or code view, go to the end of the closing header div tag. To do so you can click anywhere within the header div tag (eg. select the logo image in the design view before going into the code view) and then click the <div#header> that appears at the bottom of the code view window. The entire header div code will be highlighted. Then you can easily click after the closing </div> tag. 2. Now, let’s add the yellow menu bar. a. Insert > Layout objects > div tag b. ID = menu c. Click NEW CSS STYLE button: 1. Selector type = advanced 2. Selector = #menu 3. Define in = styles.css 4. OK. 3. In the CSS RULE DEFINITION window: d. Background > Background color > Click the triangle on the gray box to get the color palette and the ink dropper. Move the cursor to the flower in the logo and pick the yellow color. e. Block >Text align = left f. Box i. Width = 780 px ii. Clear = both iii. Padding = 5 (same for all) iv. Margin top = 0 v. Margin right = auto vi. Margin bottom = 1 vii. Margin left = auto g. Ok 4. Delete the default text that appears in the menu and type in the menu text “Home | Services | About Us | Contact Us”
Content DIV 1. Similarly create another div and css style entitled “content” below this div a. Insert > Layout objects > div tag b. ID = content c. Click NEW CSS Style button: i. Selector type = advanced ii. Selector = #content iii. Define in = styles.css iv. OK. 2. In the CSS RULE DEFINITION window: d. Block > Text align = left e. Box i. Width = 780 px ii. Height = 300 px iii. Clear = both iv. Padding = 5 v. Margin top = 0 vi. Margin left = auto vii. Margin bottom = 0 viii. Margin right = auto f. Border v. Style top = solid vi. Style bottom = solid vii. Width top = 1 px viii. Width bottom = 1 px ix. Color top = pick green color from the leaf in the logo x. Color bottom = pick green color from the leaf in the logo

g. Ok. Ok.
Footer Div 1. Similarly create a “footer” div tag and css style entitled “footer” below this div a. Insert > Layout objects > div tag b. ID = footer c. Click NEW CSS RULE button, selector = #footer, click OK. 2. In the CSS RULE DEFINITION window: d. Type > Font-size = 10 px e. OK 3. Replace the default text that appears with “Copyright 2011 sitename.com”
H1 and Menu link styles 1. Click the “New css rule” icon in the css panel and redefine the H1 tag. a. Selector type = tag b. Tag = scroll down to H1 c. Define in = styles.css d. Ok

e. This will open the CSS rule definition, in Type: i. Font size = 20 pixels ii. Color = pick the green color from the leaf for the font color.

iii. Ok. 2. Similarly let’s create a style for the menu links. f. Click on NEW CSS RULE button iv. Selector type = advanced v. Selector = #menu a (that is a space, not an underscore) vi. Define in = styles.css vii. Ok

g. In the CSS RULE DEFINITION window, go to Type: viii. Font-weight = bold ix. Text-decoration = none x. Color = black (pick from color picker) h. In case, it creates a visible div on your design view, delete the box, but do not delete the ID in the style sheet.

Script

...!The script is solid overall and succeeds in presenting a clear, interesting story. The characters are memorable and distinct. I only have a few recommendations for improving the script. !1. The relationship between Jake and Polly !I think it would be nice to have some more background on their relationship together. At some point the reason they are together should be made clear. It would raise the stakes once Antonio becomes involved and allow us to see a more complete character arc for both of them. Without it, some of the dialogue, tension, and conflicts sometimes feel a little bit forced or unrealistic, particularly on page 58, 68, and 77. Particularly on page 77, instead of saying “So I’m selfish now,” maybe Polly can say something acknowledging she made a mistake. That way, Jake will seem more in the wrong once he says something hurtful and it will make even more sense as to why Polly almost hooks up with Antonio. !2. Polly’s Transformation !Much of Polly’s transformation throughout the middle of the script seems a bit shallowly presented—merely through outfit changes and her growing acceptance of Antonio’s taboo behavior and ideas. She mentions that Jake wants to change her, but it seems more that he just wants to bring the old her back. It would be nice to have clarification on that change and why it is so hurtful to her that Jake doesn’t seem to like it. This relates to the tension I addressed in #1. I think there needs to be a moment where Polly fully recognizes...

Shell Script

...1. What is a Shell Script? A shell script is a text file that contains a sequence of commands for a UNIX-based operating system. It's called a shell script because it combines into a "script" in a single file a sequence of commands that would otherwise have to be presented to the system from a keyboard one at a time. The shell is the operating system's command interpreter and the set of commands you use to communicate with the system. A shell script is usually created for command sequences for which a user has a repeated need. You initiate the sequence of commands in the shell script by simply entering the name of the shell script on a command line. 2. What are the advantages of using shell scripts ? A scripting language is a form of programming language that is usually interpreted rather than compiled. Conventional programs are converted permanently into executable files before they are run. In contrast, programs in scripting language are interpreted one command at a time. Scripting languages are often written to facilitate enhanced features of Web sites. These features are processed on the server but the script in a specific page runs on the user's browser. In most cases, it is easier to write the code in a scripting language than in a compiled language. However, scripting languages are slower because the instructions are not handled solely by the basic instruction processor. Scripting languages allow rapid development and can communicate easily with programs......

Week 3 Co

...Justin Rodenbaugh Week 3 CO2520 1. The perception factor here is a script. The gentleman ordering food probably expected to just walk up to the counter and order what he wanted to eat. Instead the cashier looks like she is trying to get him to buy something else than what he had ordered. This causes a problem because the man’s posture in the picture seems to indicate that he is annoyed or maybe does not want to order what the cashier is pointing to on the register. This falls in line with the script that the person’s job has laid out for their employees to follow, this can usually lead to people getting annoyed or frustrated when their own personal script for things is added to. 1. Our relationships affect our perception and communication by giving us the ability to perceive and find ways to make relationships work and be comfortable. When we get hurt in a relationship either by betrayal or mistrust, this in turn causes us to look at other people with a look of distrust just because of one person that hurt us, this in turn also helps us later on to perceive whether or not our next relationship later on is going anywhere or falling through the cracks. 2. I imagine the conversation in the picture to go something like this, “Hello welcome and what can we get for you today?” Customer “I would like a number one combo meal please.” Worker “would you like to add our new dessert to your meal?” Customer “No I only want the number one” the worker might then......

...have a lack of interest in there profession, our kids would not pay they cost and would still receive a good education. Although this brings up the question of would people need to be educated or certified to preform in a job. If everything is scripted doesn’t it just come down to you can learn and execute that script? This would also severely hinder the performance of individuals who take their profession very seriously and there performance is above and beyond of what is asked of them. Sticking to the example of teachers, which Schwartz referred to in his video, creativity would be non-existent. We can all think back to teachers who have made classes interesting with there creative teaching styles. However, if Schwartz’s idea of providing a script to teachers were held true, everything would become very vanilla. Practical wisdom is a key term in this video. Practical wisdom in short is doing the right thing and finding ways to achieve what is right. With abundance rules that are set for us, we are told what is right. Thus, eliminating the second part of practical wisdom, which is finding the way to achieve what is right. Schwartz’s idea of making scripts cleans up the mess on the bottom of the spectrum....

Using Systemic Ideas

...common traits we all share is families complaining about how the same situation arises again and again, which compels me to talk about the concept of scripts. Description of theory Byng-Hall (1995) states that the metaphor ‘script’ is universal in our culture through theatre, film and most of all television: “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players” (Shakespeare, As you like it). Because the script theory forms the basis of Byng-Hall’s thinking it provides a link between the theory and family experiences. Although Byng-Hall recognises family therapists have used various metaphors such as family maps; family choreography; family paradigms and family models to describe shared representation. He believes that none of these terms fully represent the ‘drama’ of family life, in the same way as family scripts. The notion of family scripts as described by Byng-Hall is that everyone has the whole family script encoded in their minds, but will identify more with certain roles. Byng-Hall suggests that family scripts can account for how individuals may disown responsibility for what happens and attribute blame to someone else in the family. However he emphasises that this does not imply each person must take on the negative “projection” and identify themselves with it. In fact he suggests a change in script terms, which stems from recognising that everyone has the ability to play a different role in creating scenarios and that in order to solve a......

...The Python Papers Monograph 2:17 Proceedings of PyCon Asia-Pacific 2010 Experiences in Building Python Automation Framework for Verification and Data Collections Juki Wirawan Tantra jw.tantra@gmail.com Abstract This paper describes our experiences in building a Python automation framework. Specifically, the automation framework is used to support verification and data collection scripts. The scripts control various test equipments in addition to the device under test (DUT) to characterize a specific performance with a specific configuration or to evaluate the correctness of the behaviour of the DUT. The specific focus on this paper is on documenting our experiences in building an automation framework using Python: on the purposes, goals and the benefits, rather than on a tutorial of how to build such a framework. 1. Introduction I work in a growing IC design company that focuses on wireless solutions. The project described in this paper was developed when we were developing the fifth generation of our product. We were facing huge challenges for this project: our product's feature sets have grown so much that manual verification of the features require more than 2 months (and this would involve most of the engineering team doing manual tests). Recent economic situation prohibited any further investment, both for manpowers and tools. However, the project needs to be completed on time, or we would risked losing a significant potential......

I know we have had some changes in the department of late how are you finding this? Ok I guess, I have my own way of selling which really works for me so I prefer having more freedom to say what I want and have a bit of banter etc. Yes and the old way clearly worked well for you. As you know we have introduced a new script on a 2 month trial basis. And I have noticed that you seem to be deviating from this and slipping back into your old ways. Yes I have given it a try but I have not been using it all the time. I don’t really need it.. Well as you know we are governed by the FSA and there are certain things that we have to make sure we are saying when selling a policy. The new script encompasses all of this and is designed to help call center staff take advantage of opportunities to sell or add on products. I can see your point and I know there are important things that must be include and I see that it may be uses full to other...
