Secret Window Mort Rainey is a writer he is going through a divorce. Mort is hiding out in a cabin in Tashmore Lake in upstate New York. One day while sleeping on the couch there is a knock at the door and when Mort goes to answer it there is a man standing there saying to him you stole my story Mort looks at him with sleepy eyes and says “I don’t know you and I did not steal your story.” Shooter tells him “you have three days to settle this,” Mort tells him “there is nothing to settle” tells his dog Chico to go inside closes the door. Next thing I see he is at the computer trying to write a book and also remembering when his wife found a secret window she was so happy, “she was going to put a garden outside of the window, he start looking for something in the desk draws it is a pack of cigs.
Mrs. Grevey is cleaning the cabin she asks if he wants something to eat. His answer is no. Mort looks out at her then he said to the dog “I did not steal the story.” Chico goes outside and he goes and lies back down on the couch, a few hours go by he wakes by falling of the couch, Mort sees the door open and a note stuck to it realizes that someone has been here he does not see his dog so Mort goes looking for him and he finds the dog on top of a shed with a screwdriver stuck in him, he screams I will get you shooter. Mort speaks to the sheriff then goes

Into the city and asks a friend Ken Karsch for help with this Shooter person. Back home Mort has another run in with Shooter they argue over who wrote the story first Mort is get upset says he wrote the story first, Shooter wants proof and fast tells him to get the copy of the book from his wife Amy’s house. Mort seems to be getting more unraveled with this Shooter hang around; he is smoking and doing a lot of sleeping.
Amy calls waking Mort up again she wants to know” if he is okay” yes is his reply he asks her if she remembers the book Secret Window she said “yes and that she did not like it because of the ending.” Mort seems to be getting very upset with the thing that are going on around him again he goes and lays down on the couch, wakes up hours latter to the phone ring it is his soon to be ex-wife (if he would just sign the papers). Amy on the line telling him their house burned down! He goes to the city to see the damage the fire did, and who is waiting for but Amy and Ted her boyfriend he gets angry this has nothing to do with Ted so why is he here They have words and Mort leaves.
Next thing is they are sitting next to each other in the insurance office. Mort and Ted have words again this has nothing to do with Ted he is ask to leave that makes Mort happy for the moment. Ted is waiting for Mort outside and they have more angry words between each other Ted tries to hit Mort but he moves and Ted hits the window of the car instead. He is heading home and remembering how he found his wife and her lover in the hotel; you can see the angry and rage when he comes face to face with them.
Ken is calling on the phone he tells him that Mr. Greenleaf doesn’t remember seeing him or John Shooter talking, he tells Mort that he is coming back out to talk to Mr. Greenleaf again

and that he should come along, he tells him that they can meet at the café .This is really bothering Mort that no one has seen this man but him. He decides to go into town and see if the package that is being delivered. The package is there for him to pick up, on his way out of the post office he talks to the sheriffs niece which makes him a little uncomfortable. As he is getting into his jeep the sheriff stops him and says that he needs to talk to him all Mort wants to do is get out of town, he tells the sheriff he will call him later. Mort wakes up from another long sleep and realize he was to meet Ken at the café and he was late, when he gets to the café the waitress said no one had been there looking for him he could feel everyone looking at him and it was making him feel very uncomfortable. He leaves and heads back to the cabin, as he gets out of the car he see John Shooters hat he takes it inside and puts it on the chair, he see Mr. Greenleaf’s Jeep outside, Mort goes towards the truck and sees Mr. Greenleaf and realize he is dead he then looks in the back set and there is Ken also dead, panic starts to set in he doesn’t know what to do.
Mort turns to go back to the cabin and there is John Shooter telling him he killed both of these men and the he was going to have clean up the mess. Next thing I see is John Shooter walking away telling Mort he needs to fix the ending of the story and that he wants his hat back.
Mort takes the Jeep and the bodies and push them over a cliff, as he is doing this his watch get caught and he almost goes over the cliff with them. Back at the cabin he is thinking about everything that has happen he put on Shooters hat and looks in the mirror, the phone rings
O’Leary-4
again and he is irritated grabs the phone and it is Amy on the line asking “him again if he is alright” which only upsets him even more. He hangs up the phone Amy decides that it is time to have it out with Mort and get the divorce papers signed so that everyone can move on. She tells Ted she is going alone and will be back later. Mort is finally starting to realize that he is John Shooter; even as he is talking to Shooter he is starting to remember everything that he as John shooter has done. Amy gets to the cabin and starts towards it she sees all the papers flying around picks one up and sees it is the story Secret Window. She goes in the house calls for Mort no answer looks at the place and sees that it has been trashed.
Amy calls for Chico the dog he doesn’t come because he is dead she again calls for Mort as she goes up the stairs Amy sees that it is also trashed but she notices the manuscript that is John Shooters and then she sees the word shooter engraved into the wood of the desk, in wood of the walls on the window and then she turns to see Mort standing behind the door and the words shoot her engraved on the door. He says he has to fix the ending to the story buy now John Shooter is in control and he is going to fix the story. Shooter attacks Amy she runs to her car and he pulls her out of the car you can see the rage in his face, drags her back to the house, she falls and hit her head he is ready to kill her when he hears a car and knows it is Ted coming for Amy kill two birds with one stone. Mort stay out of sight until Ted comes out and he hits him hard that he should have taken his head off; instead he shoves the shovel into his throat. Amy keeps trying to tell him he is Mort Rainey not John Shooter but it falls on deaf ears and he kills her.
He buries them in the garden that corn is growing in. The Sheriff comes out to see Mort and tells him that he knows he kill all those people, but does not have enough proof to arrest him, but Sheriff Newsome tells Mort when he needs to go into town not to come to his town go somewhere else. Mort agrees to the Sheriffs demands and has the Sheriffs is leaving Mort say to him it is all about the ending.
As an unobserved observer tell this story I think we as humans do have breaking points, and the strain of life and conflicts that happen in our lives can push us to the edge. Many people are strong enough to get through but others are not. Mort Rainey is one of those people when he found his wife with another man at a motel and saw them sleeping together naked it just made him snap and a new person came into play and that was John Shooter. He was going to take care of everything that Mort could not do. I also believe that if Mort had not found his wife with another man than things might have been different; he would not have cracked and fallen to pieces and invented another personality to do the things he wanted to do but did not have the courage to do it. John Shooter killed all those people to keep order in Mort Rainey’s life. I think once Mort started to remember what happen and that he really was John Shooter and that it was he who did the killings it sent him completely over the edge where there was no coming back.
In the one moment Mort Rainey became John Shooter for good, and without proper care he will continue to kill for Mort to keep him safe. It is really scary to think that there are people out there just like Mort even if it is rare to have two personalities.

Balance

...LaTonia Moore English 21 May 8, 2012 There are times when I feel so smart and productive until I’m exhausted, dehydrated overextended, overwhelmed, or otherwise ready to snap. There are still days when my instinct is to push myself to the limits for reasons I may or may not fully understand in the moment. Even though my body, mind, and spirit can take so much, I try to learn from these days as I go. Since I haven’t yet discovered the secret formula for complete balance, I’ve come up with a few simple ways to give my self a break when I’ve been pushing myself too hard. Since I like to run, I go to the gym, or I participate in some type of aerobics. By staying motivated, I can pace my self and not take on too much at one time. I allow myself a little extra sleep when I’m off of work. In order for me to recharge my self, I take long hot baths. It’s awfully hard to stress and over-think when you’re engaged in something fun and expressive. Even if it takes just five minutes, I take time to meditate throughout the day. I surround myself with positive and supportive people. Everything that I have accomplished in my life makes me feel good because I know I have worked hard to get where I am today, and I am very proud of my achievements. I have learned many things about myself through feed back from my friends, peers, and co- workers. I keep my emotions under control and I listen to what is being said. I am always open for change and...

Crystal Lee “The Effects of Parental Alienation on Children” Belanger 1 In Susan Griffin’s essay, “Our Secret,’’ she talks about her secrets and she gives detailed insights into her life and ones of those that suffered through the Holocaust. The three biggest parts that she talks about is her own feelings, secrets and fears, her own experiences, the life of Heinrich Himmler, Leo, Helene, and Chief of the Nazi SS. The way that she organized her essay was very confusing and it would jump around a lot so you never really understood how everything would come together in the end. Griffin’s says “The DNA molecule is made of long, fine paired stands. These strands are helically coiled” (Griffin 379). Griffin’s tells what happens to the nucleus, and how the inner-workings of the nucleus develop into a cell which gives rise to many cells, which will eventually become an embryo. So the cell is how someone was made with and your development can be affecting you as you growing up. ...When Is It Acceptable to be Yourself? Have you ever felt alone? Just looking for something or somebody to be there for you when you need it most? What happens when nobody is there, forcing you to hold all of your feelings in? In “The Secret Society of Starving” by Mim Udovitch, young girls with severe eating disorders talk about the secret world of the online pro-anorexia (“pro-ana”) community, where they truly express themselves and sometimes even encourage each other’s problems. Likewise, in the essay “Can You Tell the Truth in a Small Town?”, writers struggle to put their true words down on paper, knowing the secrets they share could result in their excommunication from the only community they know, causing an even greater sense of being alone. Both “The Secret Society of Starving” and “Can You Tell the Truth in a Small Town?” shine a light on the different lifestyles of two separate societies and how they both hide who they really are from the rest of the world, causing a sense of growing isolation within the members of each group. The members of the communities from both essays hide their true feelings from the people closest to them, including their family and friends. From “The Secret Society of Starving”, members of the pro-ana community hide behind the internet and submerge themselves into a virtual world of chat rooms and blogs where they can (anonymously) state their true most personal feelings. On page 111 one pro-ana girl states, “they know exactly what I’m going...

Perseverance

...steady effort to maintain a course of action, belief, or purpose in spite of difficulty. In order to persevere, pain and a lot of hard thinking will be needed. Perseverance basically means to continue doing something in spite of obstacles. Success in life doesn't come easily. When a kid learns to stand up and tries to walk, he is found to fall down again and again. And by nature and instinct, he gets up, and again tries to step forward, although again he falls down. But ultimately, he succeeds in walking. The same thing had once happened with each one of us, when we were children. A person who perseveres has self-confidence, determination, and hardworking, that person tries again and again, and finally has success. Perseverance is the secret of success. Without it, achievements are not possible. A person who is very intelligent, and good at school, but is lethargic by nature, and reluctant to diligence, can hardly prosper in life, because he does not know how to use his brain and labor in the right direction. In this world, all the great things have been made or constructed only by perseverance. Shakespeare did not compose such voluminous works just in a day. He had to work hard during days and nights with tremendous perseverance to create such great masterpieces. The modern scientists, too, carry on their experiments day and night for years together in order to attain success. If one looks at his own life, he can very well understand that whatever he has so far gained,...

Children of Heaven

...the soundtrack played a vital part in shaping the whole experience of the viewer. It’s not just the music. It’s the strategic use of silence. It is called the sound of silence The cinematography and editorial pacing of Children of Heaven takes advantage of the full range of cinematic story-telling techniques, Such as tracking shots, pans, a wide range of camera framings, camera reversals, and point-of-view shots – FEW POINTS WORTH HIGHLIGHTING IN THE MOVIE: 1. the narrow alley in which we see the children running most of the time, projects the economic state of the community and the director’s insight to enhance the proximity of the situation and also the realistic projection of how many hardships the faced to keep the secret: running in dirty uneven lanes, with gutters, children playing, crowd moving about. 2. A director’s decision on what camera movement for what shot? The decision is a combination of Director’s POV i.e. what he wants to communicate or what does he want the audience to focus on and the audience tendency of observing things i.e how best can he leave an impact on them. The camera angles used in the alley where the main subjects dwell are done in a sense as if to convey the crunch for space each time and to enhance the proximity of the situation. Contrast to that, the usage of the long shots during the scene of the uptown highways and bridges shown to convey the expanse and create the stark difference of the two parts of the city audience...

Bullying

...Nicholette Marbley November 1 2013 Professor Whetstone Essay 2 Using humorous figures for an anti-bullying campaign wont work because no one will take it seriously At one point in our lives we have had our disagreements with friends. It might have gone as far as getting kicked out of a group. Its not fun being left out. Any form of bullying is not fun. Bullying has been around for ages. As longs as its been around you would have thought there would be a cure for it. If no one likes mean people, why are people so mean? Do we only pretend not to like mean people? This problem has escalated over the years, and has become more prevalent with todays technology. An example of this is seen in the scene of the movie Carrie. Carrie was a religious girl who was sheltered from wordly things. She did not know what her period was. She was taking a shower in the schools locker room when it happned. She ran over to the other girls screaming and crying. They then began to throw tampons at her. The leader of the group then began to record it and put it on youtube. The video was labled Bloody Mary. This resulted in the girl being banned from prom. On prom night she swiched the ballots so it looked liked Carrie and another boy were king and queen. When Carrie took her position on stage they poured pigs blood on her from a bucket hanging above her. They then started to play the video. Carrie took out her embarrassment and anger through her telekinesis. She then killed most of...

Moral Issues

...Thinking on Moral Issues Abstract Many times in your life you will be faced with daily challenges and moral issues with family, friends and work. If someone told you a secret, for instance, would you promise to keep it safe, even if it meant endangering their life? Should we go against our own belief in our career and keep someone alive at all costs, no matter what their physical or mental condition is? I remember being a kid and running around telling secrets and when it got back to me it was blown way out of proportion. Those were the good days. We have grown up and things have changed but what hasn’t changed is we still have secrets in our life. There are so many reasons why we keep and pass around our secrets. Secrets can and usually do cause pain and suffering – that is why they are called secrets. One person most likely doesn’t want the secret out for one reason or another and then they allow someone close to them into their “trust field” and that person becomes vulnerable. Can you keep a secret? I will tell you the truth, I can’t. I am tell-a-phone, tell-a-graph, tell-a-Trina. If you want something to stay private … Do Not Tell Me! With my new leadership role, I had to learn to be more private. I already had several friends in the department and stepping into management was hard. I learned so much about many of my co-workers. Truthful Lies: America’s Imbalance

...WR 121 Essay 1: Diagnostic Words: 778 Truthful Lies: America’s Imbalance In the real world, statements are made, without regard for consequences. Is it possible to “unsay” something? To take it back? Rudyard Kipling said it best, “Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind.” As a child, I played a game called gossip. It was usually at a slumber party and required all the participants to sit in a circle. The first person would whisper a secret to the person beside them. That person then whispered the secret to the person beside them, but told it in their own words. The last person in the circle was to announce the secret, as they heard it. I was always astonished, not only by how much the story had changed, but by how excited the participants were to tell it. My grandmother used to say, “Be careful what you say, because once the words are out, you can’t take them back.” Although she was nobody famous, she had a firm grasp on the impact words could have on a person’s life. When I think of a drug, I think of something that changes a person, either physically, mentally, or both. Think about how you feel when you hear, or read something about another person. Your reaction is based on many things. Suppose you are a person, with little means, who struggles every day.
