LP2 Assignment: Secrets of the Mind
By Mia Mendoza

Dr. Ramachandran is a neuro scientist. He travels to different places around the world, searching for people with unexplainable mental problem and tries to make sense out of it. The most important thing Dr. Vilayanur Ramachandran taught us in this video was that the mind is very mysterious indeed. The brain is so complex that any kind of injury to it can make very strange things happen. In the case of the man with the phantom arm, the man was mysteriously experiencing pain in the amputated arm. HHHAlso, when he touched a part of his cheek, his phantom arm felt it as well. After Dr. Ramachandran performed some tests, he came to the conclusion that the nerves in his brain that are connected to his cheek took over the nerves connected to his arm which gives him this strange sensation.

David claims that after he was in a horrible accident, now sometimes he fails to recognize his own mother and father and thinks they are imposters. Sometimes he even thinks he is an imposter of himself. Dr. Ramachandran started his research right away and came to the conclusion that when you look at an object, the message goes to the temporal lobes of the brain then gets relayed to an object in your brain called the amygdala that contains the emotional center of the brain. The fibers that connect the amygdala to the temporal lobes must have been cut as a result of his accident since the objects that he sees are sometimes not linked with any emotional feeling.

Another man came to Dr. Ramachandran desperately seeking help with the excruciating pain in his arm and hand that was missing. He claimed that it felt like the missing hand was clenching very tightly and wouldn’t let go. Dr. Ramachandran told him that one answer to his problem might be that his brain was sending signals to his arm and trying to clench the fist and his brain

The Secret

...THE SECRET by Rhonda Byrne - Reaction Paper The Secret is a book written by Rhonda Byrne, which is known as the best-selling book in 2006. I was amazed when I entered the classroom and found out that we’ll be viewing/watching the DVD about The Secret. I have heard about this documentary since I was in 3rd year college and by this time I finally got the chance to watch a masterpiece. I wanted to watch this since but I never had the chance to because I got so busy with school activities but right now I think I am lucky that I am a part who knows The Secret and I am thankful to know it.  To begin with, The Secret is a life changing, it makes you financially independent, it let your mind powerful and lastly, it will make you successful. The Secret is kept hidden from thousands of people and they let their ignorance spread to people; it was buried, coveted, suppressed and it was never revealed to the public. According to Bob Proctor, a philosopher, the secret gives you anything you want; happiness, health, and wealth. He also said that “we become what we think”, which means whatever we think it predict our future. The law of Attraction is The Secret; what we see, hold, or even our thoughts are equivalent to what we need, want or even demand and it attracts to you. Like what I watched and jotted down, an optimistic thought is a thousand’s more powerful than pessimistic thought. The more you think, the more it will happen because the universe is reacting to what you want; which...

...The "Subconscious Secret" is how the Secret really works! By Scott Sulak, BCH, CHT If you have seen the movie and were moved to change, but found no success, perhaps you are fighting your subconscious mind. Perhaps it is time to let your "other mind," your subconscious mind, in on the secret. I was impressed at how quickly “The Secret” took off in the recent past. Mostly everyone I talked to had an opportunity to see the movie and instantly feel a sense of hope that if they could just change the way the see things, “things” would be different in their life. The movie depicts the secret as something simple and something ancient which is not tied to any particular sect or stratification and is available to everyone. While I agree that it is simple and IS available to everyone theoretically, it seems like just watching the movie and from then on experiencing abundance and joy every moment from then on is something...well, something you might see in a movie. What is missing? There is more to change then simply realizing that you have become a magnet for what you don’t want. To simply say “stop thinking this way and start thinking that way” for most of us it a tall order. The reason it is a tall order is that we have taught ourselves how life is in some relative way and changing reality is not something we do very often. It is not as though we don’t “want” to change, but let’s face it, if we don’t believe it will happen or we don’t deserve it will, then “wanting” is not enough. So...

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty vs the Necklace

...The Secret Life of Walter Mitty VS The Necklace April Kahl ENG 125 Introduction to Literature Angela di Guaico March 3, 2014 When comparing and contrasting short stories. One should look at tone, irony, theme, symbolism, and imagination. When all these literary terms are combined they make stories. The secret Life of Walter Mitty, and The Necklace, there is similarities in gender role of the characters, but there is differences, both of these short stories represent relationships in their marriage, through the main characters, and the roles they play. In this paper I will explain the similarities as well as the differences the characters play in both stories. I chose these two stories because they both have the same theme about marriage and love. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and The Necklace are written in third-person narration, and throughout the two stories one person point of view it also allows you to see the dreams and thoughts of the main characters. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. In this movie, we can find one of techniques in psychoanalysis, which is dream analysis. According to theory, dream direct avenue to the unconscious. When people fall in asleep, it’s the most vulnerable. In this time, people are out of consciousness but unconsciousness was the majority in the people’s mind. The Secret Reveled

...The Secret by Rhonda Byrne; Summary and Response There is a secret that only a few people know of ever since thousands of years. Many powerful leaders knew of it, but they preferred to keep it and not share it. The Secret Revealed: The great secret of life is the "The Law of Attraction". This postulates that similar things are attracted, so when you have a thought, this thought attracts to you similar thoughts. The Secret Made Simple: The law of attraction is a natural law, as it is the law of gravity. As such it is impartial. How to Use the Secret: Ask for, believe, and receive. The Secret to Money: To attract money, focus on wealth. It is impossible to attract money if you are constantly thinking about the "lack of money”. The Secret to Relationships: When you want to attract a relationship, make sure your thoughts, actions, and surroundings are not in conflict with those desires. The Secret of Health: Healing through the mind works harmoniously with medical science. The Secret to the World: That, to which you resist, attracts you. This is because you are strongly focused on it. The Secret to You: Everything is energy. You are an energy magnet, so you can energize everything to you, and electrically energize yourself to attract what you want. The Secret to Life: You are responsible to fill the blackboard of your life with whatever you want. All you need to do is "to feel good now". Response The Secret, by Rhonda Byrne is the most interesting book I have ever read...

A Beauiful Mind

...A Beautiful Mind History is often a story of trials and tribulations, with great men who unintentionally change the world. This trend of personalizing history by telling it through the lives and contributions of brilliant individuals continues today. Due to the wide-ranging success of science, mathematics, and technology, a unique emphasis has been placed in recent years on the individual contributions of innovative scientists, mathematical geniuses, and technologist. As a mathematical genius, John Nash is an individual whose life frames many facets of the diverting landscape of 19th century America, individually because he suffered an abrupt fall from grace after he fell victim to paranoid schizophrenia at the peak of his professional career. Through remarkable remission of his sickness and the winning of the 1994 Nobel Prize, Nash was brought back into the public’s eye. Through the book and movie A Beautiful Mind, the reader and viewer was able to see that Nash was a man of incredible historical interest. Both the film and movie were able to show his reality to a general audience. In many ways the film A Beautiful Mind absolutely misleads the audience of the historical detail in its representation of the life of John Nash. Although he was enrolled as a graduate student at Princeton University, his experience there was considerably different from that shown in the film. In the beginning of the movie, Professor Helinger delivers a motivational speech to the incoming freshman...

Security Planning for the 2004 Democratic National Convention Case Report

...SECURITY PLANNING FOR THE 2004 DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION CASE REPORT MSFM- Organizational Behavior January 6, 2014 Case Summary In November 2002 the Democratic National Committee selected Boston, Massachusetts to host its July 2004 convention. Boston had beaten out other larger cities which included New York, Miami and Detroit to win the convention. The convention would nominate local politician John Kerry to run against President George W. Bush in the upcoming 2004 election. It was hoped that the event would bring an economic windfall to the city and also showcase the historical and fashionable attractions to the national and international media. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino had worked hard to bring the Democratic National Convention to Boston. The city had tried in 2000 to host the convention but lost out to Los Angeles. On its second try with the help of Senator Edward Kennedy and the state’s congressional delegation Boston was successful. Mayor Menino was very excited for Boston to be in the media spotlight for the four days in July that the convention would be held. It would give the city a chance to bask in the limelight and show its rich historical past and its vibrant present. The Mayor also added that he saw the convention as a challenge for Boston. We’d never had an event of this magnitude. Menino was confident the city would meet the challenge and fare better than others that had hosted political conventions in the past. The city’s elation...
